It was another successful event this year at the 2nd annual
Dumont Dunes Poker Run presented by Friends of Dumont Dunes and DDR.
On Saturday November 14th, hundreds of duners came out to the dunes
to play a little poker and get some duning in at the same time.
Registration
began at 9AM as duners lined up to buy their hands of poker. There
were five
checkpoints to hit up; One: registration booth. Two: Smokin
Al's BBQ at vendor row. Three: the south end of the camp area up in
the hills. Four: The famous DDR South Pole. Five: comp hill. Then
there was a mystery checkpoint for a bonus raffle ticket. This
checkpoint was located IN the dunes. You had to dune to get to it.
Everyone really seemed to love this idea. Most participants found it
after cruising around the north section of dunes. The checkpoint was
located in "Talladega" as most DDR members call it.
The
poker run lasted from 9AM until 2PM. It was plenty of time for
everyone to hit all the spots, do some duning, grab some lunch, and
then meet back up at the registration area to see who won what.
First there was the raffle where many items such as shirts, flags,
koozies, gift certificates, etc were given away. These items were
donated by many great sponsors and vendors at vendor row. After the
raffles, it was time for the cash giveaways. Over $1000 in cash was
given out to the best 3 poker hands and even the worst hand received
$75.
