Riding
out of bounds or in closed off areas
is more important than some may
think!
The Center for
Biological Diversity has filed a
petition for the fringe toed lizard
to be listed as threatened or
endangered with critical habitat.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
has responded to the petition and
will be reviewing whether or not to
list the lizard as endangered.
The fact is that
there is no direct threat to
population of the fringe toed lizard
in the open areas of OHV travel at
Dumont Dunes. However that is not
up to us, as duners, to decide. We
need to work with the BLM and Fish &
Wildlife Service and prove that
there is no reason for federal
protection and that this species is
and will remain healthy without any
intervention from U.S. Fish &
Wildlife. The lizard does not live
where we do our primary riding. The
fringe toed lizard resides in areas
of vegetation and small brush, outside
of where we ride.
The best thing
you, as a duner, can do right now
and in the future is to STAY IN
BOUNDS when riding at Dumont Dunes.
If you go out past the closure
stakes and into restricted areas you
are going into the areas of
vegetation and lizard habitat.
Riding in these areas only gives
reason to list the lizard as
endangered, thus possibly closing
down Dumont Dunes to any and all OHV
travel, not to mention endangering
the lizards.
If you want Dumont
Dunes to remain open for riding,
camping, and having the fun that you
are used to...be sure to take this
into serious thought when riding at Dumont.
Everyone's help is VERY MUCH needed
when it comes to this issue. By
being a responsible duner with this
matter shows how we care and that we
aren't there to trash the place or
endanger any wildlife. Respect the
place you love.

the areas that we must stay within
at Dumont Dunes.

NOT go past these markers.
