Summer 2009

June 12-14, 2009

June 12-14 weekend conditions

daytime temps 70's & 80's
dunes steep, soft, & unpredictable
attendance very few, maybe 5-6 groups total
Unseasonably cool weather for June allowed for some duners to get take advantage of some great dune time in June. The sand was super smooth and unpredictable at times. Temperatures were cool all weekend and even called for sweatshirts and pants at times. Not too many people were out there but a couple of camps. More from this weekend on the forum...click here!

June 20th Night Drags

There was a huge turnout for the June 20th night drags at Banshee Hill. The hill was lit up for some very fast drag bikes that showed up. Riders gathered to race as some just sat back and watched the nighttime action. There was a constant breeze all night which made for very cool, comfortable temperatures. Later in the evening the temps were even down in the 70's. Not too many people ventured into the dunes, however for those that did they enjoyed the sand that much more. The dunes were virgin smooth everywhere you went and there were no lines in sight. The razors were steep and sharp and the sand was very soft. It was another great weekend out at Dumont. If you missed this night trip you should mark the next one down on your calendars. It will be the night of August 8th. Not only will there be a bunch of other duners heading out that night, but you can also look forward to a full moon that evening. See you in the sand!

Aug 8th, 2009 Summer night ride and drags trip report

Well it was quite the turnout as usual again this year. A bunch of duners made it out for a summer night ride and drags trip to Dumont. A total of three light towers were brought out this year by dedicated members of the forum. The lights always help keep the Banshee Hill safe and also provide some great nighttime atmosphere for spectators. In addition, our friends at Smokin Al's BBQ made a special trip out just for the people of DDR. Al and his crew served up some of the greatest brisket, tri-tip, and pulled Pork sandwiches. There were some happy duners getting there grub on that night. Everyone was super appreciative and thankful they could provide such a great meal.

Temperatures were down in the 80's at night, the moon was almost full, and there was an occasional breeze which made it feel like dune season had already begun. August usually brings some scorching heat, but this weekend's slight dip in temperatures came as a surprise to everyone. The dunes were extremely smooth and soft as usual for summer, especially comp hill. There were practically no whoops or rollers throughout the whole hill. It was a short trip for most, just like all summer trips, but it was enough for everyone to get a good sand fix until the season starts back up in October.  There were no mishaps or injuries reported this weekend and everyone had a great time. We now have just about 2 months left to go until dune season resumes and the campfires get lit. Hang in there, everybody and have a great summer!
