As discussed over here, nwtdiesel, myself, ynot, raspadoo, 702sandman, my buddy Chad (with his new to him Tatum), and possibly a few others are heading to D this SUNDAY for an early morning run.

The plan: Meet at Dumont approx 5:30 AM and get as much duning in as possible before it gets hot. Sunrise is about 6am.

The weather is looking pretty good. The high for the entire day is only about 100 so we might be able to go until late morning. Bring sure to bring a chair, an EZ up, plenty of sunscreen, water, some lunch and some cold ones for afterwards. :beerpint:

If anyone else is in, post up and we'll meet up. We'll be mostly buggies and RZRs, but everyone is welcome to come out. Looking forward to it.

Pete, through all of your experience how far around D can a RZR make it with just Big Horns on?

Had some major health issues arise back in January and had to go with something with a steering wheel vice the five DS650's that I still have. Picked up a 2012 XP900 and it did come with paddles but they aren't mounted and with one usable arm I won't be able to get them mounted in time for this ride on Sunday.

Since you claim that it will be a slower than normal cruise I'd like to hit it up.

Anybody else that goes to D without paddles feel free to help me out here. I know it's super soft out there right now so I'm all ears.

vic the big horns do pretty good in the sand i would run 7 psi without beadlocks and as low as 5psi with beadlocks. run in 4 wheel drive and be careful about over steer. the only places you will have issues are long steep hills and sharp razors

Sorry to hear that, Vic! I hope your health improves. Summertime can be very soft out there, but I think you can still have some fun. Steve is more knowledgeable on that subject than me. Take his advice. ;) I hope to see you Sunday, bud.

Have fun guys! The raptor is broken down in my garage right now otherwise I would be going. It seems every summer sand run I've been on the last few times someone has gotten hurt so be careful out there.

Why the hell would you even say that!? :slap: lol And Raptor broken down? Those words don't even go together. C'mon Chad. Get yer sh*t together.

Sorry I should clarify it's not officially "broken down" but it's taken apart in my garage. Tie rods are bent pretty bad and suspension needs some necessary service before the season starts. Needless to say have fun guys and be safe!! Post pics and trip report!!

Thanks Steve. I may try and get these paddles mounted in time but I doubt it. Since I bought it in late May I've only been able to put about 90 miles on it, just too damn hot to ride, but I've been runnning about 6psi for desert riding. It does feel like I'm powersliding through some of the sweeping turns in the washes. Feels like I'm on ice. Is that the oversteer that you're talking about?

Hopefully I can make it and hopefully there will be other 900's out there as I would like to compare temps, sounds, etc with some other XPs to make sure mine is performing as it should.

what i was was talking about oversteer is with knobbies and 4 wheel drive in the sand it will pull you into sharper turns with the possibility of tipping. you just have to watch how aggressive your turns are. you will get the hang of it quick. sorry i can't make this trip with work and a road trip to idaho next week.

Im not concerned about the breeze. Mostly about sand blowing all in my eyes. I dont wanna get sandblasted I guess I have to stop cryin and just show up and enjoy the day in the dunes. Im goin sat and sun for the day. Leaving spring valley 4am ..see ya there.

So do you want me to bring my EZ up? Probably a lot easier to set up than your 10x20?

My 10 x 20 isn't very hard to put up. It's just heavy and takes an extra person or 2. It pops up nice and easy just like the 10 x 10's.

Just pull up to wherever you see a group. It will most likely be us. I'm sure nobody else will be out there. Look for Newly's big Kodiak with a 30 ft flatbed. We usually park over to the left where it's hard packed in the summer. My buggy is in my signature.
