so i have been wanting to switch to a short race trailer style hauler for the last season. so a month ago i put mine up for sale (still for sale) and started shopping hard for a new one. they don't make very many short race trailers with living quarters. most are used for drag and stock cars and are 44-52 foot long. i had been casually shopping country wide and knew i was likely going to have to travel to find one. i found a couple contenders in campo cali, richland washington, new orleans and somewhere in wyoming. 2 weeks ago found one in rouge river oregon that seemed to fit the bill. after texting and chatting with the owner i decided i wanted it and started the road trip machine in motion. the trailer is a 04 that was used about 6 times. and by used i mean someone towed it somewhere 6 times. all the appliances are stainless steel and have never been used. the story i was told was it was bought in texas 3/04 hauled to northern cali. then over the next 10 years the owner twice towed his harley to sturgis in it but didn't stay in it. then last year it was traded for a piece of machine equipment. the new owner and his son added a couple of lights and put a nice rockford stereo in. then used it once for a over night where the plastic was taken off the micro and the paper and manuals were taken out of the oven and fridge. the gene is a 3000 guarden propane with 2 10# tanks with only 32 hours. so i got my money straight, serviced the truck, bought a gooseneck plate and bought tires for the trailer (they were 11 year old rotten goodyears) and took off last sunday. it was 775mile up though fallon- reno- susanville- mt shasta city- and on up i5 into oregon. if you have never taken this route north it is a nice easy drive that gets cooler and greener as you go. the stretch from susanville on around mt shasta is beautiful with many vistas, big pine trees and some cool campgrounds (haven't stayed in the area but i have explored many of the campgrounds in the big trees). then the drive on i5 into oregon and over the siskiyou pass steep long and curvy. dropping down to the rouge river valley. thats where i picked up the trailer monday morning after staying in medford sunday night. after inspecting the trailer and hooking it up i had to go 22miles back to medford with those rotten old tires. i just cruz controlled it at 50 mph and stared at the mirror waiting to see tire shrapnel. ended up making it to the tire shop where they said the tire came apart on the tire machine as it unmounted. so i headed on north to fallon for a night of blacktop boon docking at walmart. then home Tuesday morning. i guess i like towing the worst hills and and mountain roads to get familiar with a new rig. (last one i bought in bakersfield and headed up tehachapi pass) was a uneventful 1600 mile road trip very happy with the trailer and it should last me a long time.

I think I will name the race trailer WANDERLUST (a strong desire to travel: a man consumed by wanderlust.)
