Thay are talking about gubment shutdowns as early as Oct 19th.

If the idiots can't figure out how to run the country properly, as we elected them to do, does that mean no Dumont for Halloween?

I agree. They do these symbolic government shut downs without thinking about the consequences. People who are serving the country get caught in the middle. They always get paid eventually, but what about bills that are due now?

I'm starting to dislike the idiots from both parties...

i guess they won't have any money to keep people out, if they have no money.

People from both sides tend to abuse the system, and they should be the ones that don't get paid that's for sure.

We paid our money to be at Dumont... so we will be there.

yeah been doing it for 13 years and it's getting tougher and tougher to want to stay in...things have been going downhill for a good 8 yrs now and it certainly isn't getting any better.  really pisses me off to see the amount of money wasted yet the first place they look to cut is the pockets of the little man. the founding fathers are probably rolling in their graves seeing what the politicians have done to this country.

Our non-essential personell will be told not to come into work as soon as Tues. if this goes into effect tonight.  All leave is cancelled, can't even get sick! Show up or be AWOL.  Sucks that some people have vacations paid for already and might have to lose out.

I guess my Oct 19th shutdown was horribly inaccurate.

It seems BLM websites are down. Automatically redirects to the generic Dept Of Interior website.

Yep, all GOV offices that are non essential are having their sites shutdown. No email, no nada!

Can't use non essential anymore. That's offensive! We are non excepted. I'll sleep so much better now.

So the fence to the country is down and the fence to the dunes is up? Amazing!

All the information I could find, seems pretty vague on what impact the government shut down will actually have on Dumont. Dumont is not a National Park, so as far as I can tell, there will just be no BLM officers, no BLM services, the bathrooms locked and maybe some signs posted saying closed. I can't find any information on if there will be fines if you are caught on "closed" lands, however, with no services who is going to catch you? But then further down it says they will be on duty. And yes of course the BLM sites are down, making it even more difficult to find any information. Its not like they are going to run out there an put up a fence and a gate across the road and lock it up, that would require BLM employees to work and funding they apparently don't have.  :dunno:

So as long as the shut down goes....I dont need a pass....I dont need stickers....and I wont be able to pee in a building...

Probably cant even get passes.....hmmm....except from a vendor that has them.

Sounds just like what people refer to as the good ol days.

Here is a directive about the shutdown plan. It says open land is still open, but controlled access lands will be closed, and campgrounds will be closed.

Is Dumont considered controlled access? Because there are bathrooms is it called a campground?

. Does this mean no vendor row?

"Businesses operated by outfitters with BLM-issued permits will not be able to operate on
BLM-managed public lands that are closed"

Might end up at the giant piles of dust at Amargosa.

Why and how would it be closed? Dumont is already understaffed and supposedly under-funded. Who is going to be there to stop you from going in? It's an off-weekend anyways. Nobody would regularly be manning the entrance regardless. Go ride the dunes and don't worry about it!

I don't think they are underfunded. They have plenty of LEO's and equipment. Has anyone ever heard of a government agency that claimed they were properly funded?

I'm looking for facts. LEO's are still on duty and could easily kick people out, but that would be speculation. I don't want to blow a hundred bucks on diesel and a few hour of drive time without some facts.

Dumont isn't normally manned or enforced on the off weekends, but now it will be since most BLM staff is laid off. Doesn't make any sense.

The only reason I brought this up is the last time there was a shutdown under Clinton, the things that were shut down tended to almost be vindictive against the people. They closed the Grand Canyon today for $%#@ sakes! Yes, they are turning people away from the Grand Canyon while Congress has their little spat. What would stop them from turning us away?

This whole stupid shut down could be over tomorrow for all I know so I will still go get my passes in the next couple days.

This government is clearly out of control. We need to make our displeasure felt at the ballot box...

I seriously doubt they would stop you. Even if they did I wouldnt care if I had a trip planned. I would go no matter what ! Thing is, as a veteran I am so F***ing disgusted by what they have done. Our debt is up, our borders are down and I will be damned if they block the sand !!

If a leo shows up....ask him how much he likes his job, how much he likes paying his motgage?  and ask if hed like to watch as you ride?

IF he has any sence at all, he ll realize that he wont be getting overtime for the fight that might happen, and that by the time the dust settles that nothing will happen.....nothing.

By the time they call for back up to remove two trucks and trailers, and get everyone out there.....they will spend 8000$ of tax payer money......that equals job loss.......somewhere down the line.

This whole thing pisses me off. Somewhere along the line they went from being employees of ours to being master. These our our public lands. Owned by the taxpayer, not the government. They were hired only to be the stewards, not the boss.

I have zero idea if they would kick us out or not. Like I said before, would rather not speculate.

But if there is truly a shut down, it should be wide open, bathrooms and all.

For the record, I am NOT against any of the rangers or deputies. Whatever happens they are just doing their job and following orders.
