  1. I'd be in for some Silverwood trips, it's right in my backyard and I've never been. Hear good things about it lately though.
  2. I met Al through work years ago now and we hit it off right away both being from the high desert and being off road fanatics. I agree with Pete, Al would call me up out of the blue, middle of the day screaming "Shire, what's going on?" into this speaker phone to tell me what was going on right then with him and ask how I was. One of those calls was on Thursday in June (I think, it was definately summer) telling me to get me stuff together for an overnighter to Dumont to shoot some video for a buddy. That was a great trip and I feel priveleged to have been able to spend the one on one time with Al during the trip up and back. He drove the wheels off that car, what a beast that thing is. I didn't get to see a copy of the shoot but wish I had as it would be a great keep sake. Everyone knew Al, even the girl behind the counter at Subway in Barstow. She recognized our shirts. You are missed my friend. God Bless. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
  3. Wow, I'm so sadened to hear this. I've not kept in touch with Al very much lately as we are working in different areas. Thanks for posting the news. Keep up the fight Al, our prayers are with you.
  4. I removed them both, too expensive for Onan parts. Went with a regular fram inline filter that I can see through to monitor. I feel your pain, been through many issues with mine due to sitting too long by the previous owner. I had to clean the carb jets, they were clogged and replaced the pump. Runs good now - knock on wood - and I make sure to start it at least every other weekend. Stick with it, you'll get it figured out.
  5. Our trip report: Pulled into Dumont around 8 a.m. on Saturday (didn't want to get there after dark on Friday). Found our friends WAAAYY up the edge of the mesa north of the road, way north of BR 9 on completely hard packed and ROCKY terrain. Not my favorite but I wasn't first in. Unloaded and set up kids. kids were on the quads right away. One has an Lt 80 with holeshots (no paddles yet) and the other has an LT50 with work done to it. They've been riding for a while but I took them out to the big dunes for the first time to start teaching them technique (momentum!). It took about 20 minutes but they got it down. The 50 is just not strong enough for the actual dunes, great for flat and dirt (it's for sale now). We rounded up the crew and headed out about 11:00 for the North Pole, this is the first time that we have been on a ride as a family. Each member on their own bike and it was great. The kids loved North Pole and the ride to and from. Then back to camp for some games. Evening time was a guy ride. First time I was able to open the banshee up in over two years (it's set up only for sand) and it was great. Had some fun with my buddy riding the razor at the top of the dune that is Comp on the other side. He couldn't keep his DS650 up on the edge going so slow, my shee sticks to it with no problem. Sunday was another family ride to Comp. First time for the wife and kids. The sand at the north west end was really soft and a complete blast. Got some great pics, I'll have to see if I can figure out how to post them here. Kids loved playing in the sand and requested all the trips be sand trips for the rest of the season. Wind came up a bit so back to camp for more games. Put the kids in one motorhome and the adults in our trailer for some adult beverages. Monday was a quick trip to the dunes to turn the kids loose in a large "playpen" shaped area on the way to the North Pole then back to camp to pack up. The weekend was great and way less people than I expected. I too would have liked to meet up with some others, maybe another time. BTW - head wind back to high desert was horrible. Worked the truck all the way home and cost about $50.00 more in gas to get home. That's something that sucks on the 15 south, usually a head wind.
  6. Drop by if you get out near us. We'll be there late on Friday to Monday.
  7. I was going to leave my Revo home but maybe I'll bring it out. What are you running, Bajas? We are looking into getting an XP 900 as we now have kids and they are not up to the task of dunning yet. How do you like it? I'll swing by and say hello. Thanks. David.
  8. Terry, Thanks for the info on the ridges, I'll check out the area between 12 and 10. I know the ridges your talking about, I try to look for them on the south side of the road too, sometimes I find them. I'll definately look for you out by 9 and swing by. I'm in a maroon lowered GMC dullie (1991) with a 38 foot Raptor 5th wheel and will be on my red banshee. Stop by if you see us first. Good to hear about less dust and BS, I've got two your girls that ride and a wife I'm still teaching to ride so less traffic is good. See you out there. David.
  9. We're planning a trip MLK weekend, anyone else going? How hard packed is the area between restrooms 12 and 9? We usually camp south of 10 by the dune finger, how does the two areas compare? The people we are going with prefer out past 12 I just want to see what I'm in for. How busy is it this weekend, I've not been there on MLK before. Thanks and post up if your going to be out there, always looking to meet up with new folks.
  10. The group is thinking about heading out to Dumont this year for Halloween instead of Glamis. I'm sure we'll be able to see this but where abouts do you set this event up? It'd be nice to camp close. Props to you guys for all the hard work and definately put out the tip jar. Thanks.
  11. I did away with my 2 filters on my marquee gold 5500. Onan recommends to use an eliminator kit for one of the filters as it's not needed, that kit is like 22.00 or something. Then the same with the filter as stated above. I headed over to hoseman, bought two 1/8" threaded hose barbs (3.00)and did away with both filters. I used one of the clear gas racing filter with the replaceable screens before the fuel pump and was good to go. No more getting screwed on the filters. Now I can at least see what the fuel looks like and/or if fuel is getting to the gen.
  12. DDR member spotted on the 15 at about 5 o'clock climbing Cajon Pass. Brown/Gold pusher with white box trailer (DDR.com on back) Made me wish I was leaving too, we'll be in Cal City this year. Have fun.
  13. I wanted to see if anyone has any of these rear hubs. I need to swap out my wifes '06 115 bolt pattern so I can use some paddles that I already have. Thanks.
