Money Saving Tips for Duners

There are many ways to make dune trips cheaper and easier on your wallet each trip out. We all know how ridiculous gas prices have become. That is why we must start  rethinking how we can can continue with our duning lifestyles despite these higher prices.

Making your dollar go farther!

How to save on gas
  • Check and maintain proper tire pressures in both truck and trailer
  • Replace or clean your air filter regularly
  • Slow down! Save of fuel by keep speeds slow and steady by keeping your foot out of it when towing.
  • Avoid bringing unnecessary weight- keep your load as light as possible
  • Fill your RV fresh water tank closer to your destination in order to save weight

Other tips to make dune trips more affordable

  • Split costs with friends by carpooling and hauling your stuff out together in one hauler
  • Cut back on those things that you go crazy on at the grocery store (Avoid bring unnecessary food and snack items)
  • Plan your meals ahead. Some couples/ families share meals and cut their food bills almost in half.
  • Make a couple less trips a season, but stay longer each trip out. Make your trips count more!
  • Purchase an annual pass instead of weekend passes if you plan on doing at least 4 or 5 trips per season.
  • Downsize your rig/ setup. If necessary, start tenting it and use the pit toilets provided at Dumont. We have all done it at one point. You can go back to it if you love duning enough.
  • Keep it simple! Leave unused and unnecessary quads and toys at home. They just take up room, cause extra weight, and are another tank to put fuel in.
  • Turboed buggy guys: turn your turbos down and run 91 octane
  • Stock pile your own ice throughout the week and save it for the weekend if you have the room. Ice is expensive!
