The fronts are actually metric but come out to be 34x8.5 the rears are 35x12.5x15

ok that helps. Thanks for the info. Just trying to figure out what size to go with. I have a full set of 33x12.50x15 but that is much too wide for the front. I may buy some 33x10 or similar sxs offfroad tire and mount them on 5 or 5.5" wheels.

  2. So here is what you can do if you purchased a pass through recreation.gov and they sold you a pass with the incorrect (last years) dates.

Per the BLM, all season passes receipts will be honored and exchanged for the 2022-2023 season. They are still trying to figure out the system. No need to worry about a refund. As long as you have your receipt that you paid through recreation.gov, BLM will exchange for a hard copy season pass at the gate.

For those who have not purchased a season pass but plan to buy yours through recreation.gov, I would wait until October 1st to purchase. Hard copy season passes will still be available through off-site vendors sometime over the next few weeks.

  3. Been thinking about going on some mild desert rides with my buggy in some of the lesser rocky areas. I picked up some desert tires a while back from @sandmandanbut they are a bit too wide. I'd also like to go with a taller skinny look like some of the desert buggies I've seen racing. Thinking 35x10x15 on 5.5 inch beadlocks might be the look I'm going for. Gives it a decent amount of clearance but not too wide. Any input?

I recently saw this Funco down in Havasu at the Mudshark Brewery. Love those shaved Mickey Thompsons. I may even go that route on all 4. If you have any pics of desert tires on your buggy, please post em up.

  4. With dune season upon us and September/ October basically being dune prep month for most, what changes are you making to your setup or ride, if any?

Post a pic of your ride or setup that you'll have out there this season whether it be new or the same ole setup you've had for years.

I'm in the process of upgrading the front hubs, brakes and wheels on my buggy so I can run 5 lug instead of spindle mount wheels. But my ole blue Tech 3 will be back again for a season of shredding Dumont.

This, is not how this works, first they will put it out to Bid, has this Bid yet,

Then unlike normal bids, It is a Federal job,  so the Bid Results will be reviewed for 30 day,

After the 30 Days if no bidder protests the bid, then they have 60 days for notice to proceed, after notice to proceed you will then see work start,

This will only start if the Bid meets the requirements of the bid package, for example if the budget is 1,00,000,000 and the bid comes in over 10%, Then it might go back out for bid or bid review.

So after the Bid is awarded, bid bonds are met, then they will have notice to proceed,  all and all this could take 6 months,

Does anyone of a link to the Project bid, or bid results,

If this is a CMAR or Design build, then it could take a year for design before it goes into review.

All, I'm the guy that was flown to Las Vegas that fateful Sunday. I wasn't going too fast, from the my viewpoint the sand looked like it was going on at the same elevation until I went off that dune. (See pic.)  I had back surgery (See pic.) & spent two weeks in the Hospital. I would like to thank all of the helpful folks that stopped to help & drive my car back to my campsite.

I finally got into my trailer & looked inside the car after all these Months, whoever that was that drove my car, you left your black helmet inside.

Damn, but glad it wasn't worse. Recovering sucks! I know all about that. Heal up and hope you get back out there next season.

I'm going to take a ride out there, not next weekend (going camping) but the next.

I'll take pics and report what I see so check back.

The road being paved is fine with me. Easier on the RV and trailer. Less dust in the air filter. Easier on the shocks and steering parts. As expensive as trucks and trailers are, anything we can do to extend the life...

Be back in 2 weeks with a road report.

I appreciate that. I was thinking of doing the same at some point during my summer travels. 👍

  8. Easter isn't crowded at all out there. Most people are scared of a little warmer weather and have hung it up for the season already. I'd guess only a couple vendors will show up. I, personally, love the warmer weekends out there in the springtime.

    Im still getting dental work...

If the money allocated then let them do it... This has been discussed for to long. I have driven that road 50 plus through the years to keep from beating me to death.. never passed unless they moved to the side and was slowed down.. Yes prices will go up.. its just what they do.

Dust is the biggest but then again the dust is filling the valley on a big weekend anyway so you probably are not saving anything in the end.

Better drive and easier on the toys so I say do it.

They shouldn't. This project is funded by the Federal Lands Transportation Program. It's got nothing to do with user fees. At least that's what I was told.

  10. This topic seems to raise some concerns for some people, me included. Paving the road has always been a dream but also a nightmare. While our cabinets and suspension will last longer, will the better road bring more trash to Dumont? Hopefully not. I'm remaining positive and optimistic. It will definitely be weird cruising into Dumont after it's done. That 4 mile, washboard gravel road has been part of the Dumont experience for decades. 😆
