Raptor doing the Bounce...

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I was out riding yesterday on the Raptor at Nellis Dunes. I have been picking up my speed when hitting jumps recently and I have noticed now that when i land the bike is bouncing. I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this. I'm not sure if an adjustment on the current (stock) suspension will help or not. I still want to hit some bigger jumps and concerned the bouncing will get worse and cause issues.

If you look at the last jump close you can really see the bike bounce in this video. This is a 3rd gear jump and i thinks it's maybe 5-6 ft. high and about 25 ft distance.

"Speeding" up your rebound will take care of that. But if you slow it down too much, the suspension will "pack-up" when going over whoops and sets of bumps. Go to that same jump and make small adjustments to your rebound untill you find your desired setting.

stock shocks suck, do yourself a favor and hit up ebay and pick up some used works shocks for like 100. they are cheep but 10 times better then the stock fronts.

nothing beats long travel though :stirthepot:

He has the YFZ style shocks it looks like, so he should be ok for now. I think a couple clicks at a time should do it on the rebound adjustment, but honestly, it did not look like it bounced enough.

If your really ambitious, call up Elka and see what the cost would be to revalve and spring your stockers.

Thanks all, I was thinking rebound but wasn't sure which way to go. Next time out i will make a few adjustments and see what happens.

the bounce feels worse then it looks, just like the jumps feel higher then they look... lol But part of my concern was as I get better, and faster, the bounce getting bigger and more of an issue. A few times the back kicked out on take off, then the bounce kicked on landing. Want to get this figured out so I can go bigger.

I did a frame by frame on the video in Photoshop and the bounce looks worse in the frames.

I can feel the front bottom out when i land. I didn't feel the frame hit and in slow motion it doesn't look like it did but it might be the frame instead of the suspension to.

Last night i reset the rebound, and went one turn higher on the front springs. I won't be able to test it out this weekend, Daytona 500, but soon.
