On January 30th, 2010 DumontDuneRiders.com presented the 2nd
Annual 70cc Regatta at Dumont
Dunes. The ever-so-growing
popularity of the Honda ATC70
brought many enthusiasts
together from all over the
place for this event. With over 40 participants
and over 80 spectators, the
turnout was more than double of
last year's 1st annual 70 regatta.
registration
ATC70 participants lined up
Saturday morning to get signed
in. Coffee was provided by
Saxby's Coffee for those who
needed to shake off the damage
that was done by the previous
night's partying. A little
caffeine and a good tasting
coffee was just what many needed
that morning. As riders signed
in they were given a wristband,
an event t-shirt by Sandcrazd,
an event decal by ATC70Decals.com,
and a paper number plate.
Participants picked their own
numbers and designed their
number plates.
Stock, Modified, Unlimited
class races
After everyone was signed in,
the races began. The races
consisted of 3 classes; stock,
modified, and unlimited. The
stock class (stock 70cc bore)
was to race 3 laps while the
modified class (up to 88ccs) had
5 laps to complete. Unlimited
class riders had 8 laps to lay
down. The unlimited class was
anything over 88ccs. This class
consisted of mostly the Lifan
110's & 125's and other Chinese
motors that were as large as
150cc plus with full suspension.
It was a very difficult class to
complete in. The races were a
blast whether you were racing or
just watching. There were enough
ATC's in each class that riders
would pile up in the turns and
the racing
action was pretty
intense. Yes, even though these
are basically kids trikes,
racing is still racing and it
still gives everyone the same
thrill. Cole George, aka RAGDOLL
MX, was the announcer/ emcee for
the event. He gave non-stop
racing announcements and
highlights during the events.
The Custom Shop provided DDR
with a pimped out mobile DJ
trailer setup for the 70
Regatta. It worked great and
gave us plenty of music and
volume for PA all day long.

Drags Races
Once the 3 group races were
over, there were drag races for
each class as well. It was
process of elimination to see
who the fastest drag racers and
bikes were. Mark (mineurbiz)
radarred each rider to find out
the fastest speed along the drag
strip. 37 mph popped up on the
radar gun as Travis and Ronster
drag raced. Spectators lined the
sides of the track and cheered
racers on and took tons of
pictures. Lots of energy was in
the air.
Even the ATC's with trailers
drag raced. This race coined
the phrase "Racin Thirsty"! Too
funny!

Barrel Races
The next event included some
impromptu barrel races. There
weren't any trophies or really
any guidelines for this part of
the regatta, but it was some
good times seeing who could do
the best at blasting around the
barrels.
Lunch
At this point in the day it was
time for some grub! Lunch was
provided by Smokin Al's BBQ. His
crew served up trip tip, pulled
pork sandwiches, and chips.
There were by far no complaints
about the food. All and his crew
always smoke some great BBQ and
take care of the DDR crew.
Show & Shine
After lunch we lined up the 70's
for a show and shine event. This
was the time to vote on the
ATC's for cleanest factory 70,
ugliest 70, and best of show.
Last year there were more stock
70's than anything. This year,
everyone's 70's were hooked up
with custom paint jobs and
unique themes. You could really
see the time and effort that everyone had
put into their trikes. There was
even a custom chopper ATC that
showed up just in time for the
show & shine. It had all the key
features of a chopper; custom
tank, ape hanger handlebars,
really long huge forks, and
more.
Group Ride to Vendor's Row
Next was the group ride over to
vendor row. There's something
about 40+ ATC's rolling together
in a pack that puts a big grin
on everyone's face. It's quite
comical to witness, but at the
same time demonstrates how much
dedication and energy this group
of enthusiasts has in them. It
almost gives you goose bumps.
Speaking of comical, everyone
completely missed vendor row.
Maybe everyone was so wrapped up
in the ride and having fun, but
most everyone headed towards a
large camp near vendor row
instead of vendor row itself.
After many showed up at that
camp, they quickly realized that
the puzzled looks on the
camper's faces meant they were
NOT at vendor row. Everyone
turned around and made their way
over to Sandcrazd at vendor row
for a group photo. Classic! Then
back to camp it was for a few
more shots and on the main
event.
The main event was a group race
of all the classes. Stock,
modified and unlimited trikes
all raced together. The stock
class riders were placed up
front, then the modifieds, and
the unlimiteds in the rear. It
kept things fair and made for
some interesting racing action.
Some of the fast bikes were
having no problem lapping the
slower guys while some stockers
figured out how to hold back
faster bikes with picking hard
to pass lines. It was racing at
it's best.
Raffle, Trophies
After all the races were over,
trophies were handed out to the
winners and many great prizes
were raffled off. Thanks to all
our great sponsors who donated
items and helped sponsor this
event. We couldn't have done it
without you. Special thanks to Smokin Al's BBQ for coming out
again this year and providing
everyone with some great food.
Last but not least, thanks to
all the participants and
spectators who came out and made
this event such a success.
Without you it wouldn't have
been anything!
