  • Halloween Weekend 2026 at Dumont Dunes - Oct 30 - Nov 1

    Halloween Weekend is coming to Dumont Dunes October 30 through November 1, 2026, and that means dune season is officially kicking off!
    After a long, hot summer, Halloween Weekend is traditionally one of the first big weekends of the season at Dumont. Camps fill back up, the weather finally starts cooling down, and the dunes come alive again with sand cars, side-by-sides, quads, bikes, decorated camps, and plenty of Halloween fun.
    Halloween at Dumont
    Halloween at Dumont has become a tradition of its own, and Saturday, October 31 will be the big day. Bring the costumes, decorate the camp, and most importantly, don't forget plenty of candy!
    Friends of Dumont Dunes Trunk or Treat
    Halloween festivities get started Saturday afternoon with the Friends of Dumont Dunes annual Trunk or Treat from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Vendor Row. It's a great way for families and kids to get together for some Halloween fun before heading back to their camps for the evening. After the Trunk or Treat wraps up, the Halloween fun continues throughout Dumont with the traditional camp-to-camp trick-or-treating Saturday night. Many families participate in both, so if you're camping for the weekend, be ready for costumed kids making the rounds through the camps and make sure you have plenty of candy to hand out.
    Halloween decorations have also become a big part of the weekend. Many duners decorate their camps, trailers, motorhomes, and toys with lights, inflatables, pumpkins, and Halloween displays. Some camps go all-out, so get creative and make your camp part of the fun!
    The 2026-2027 Dune Season Begins
    Halloween Weekend means another Dumont season is underway! As always on a busy holiday weekend, watch your speed around camps, keep an eye out for kids and pedestrians after dark, light your whip, and give yourself plenty of room when riding in crowded areas.
    So get the toys ready, stock up on candy, dig out the Halloween decorations and costumes, and we'll see everyone back in the dunes!

    1. Named After a Railroad Man 
    Dumont Dunes was named after Harry Dumont, a railroad engineer for the Tonopah and Tidewater Railroad in the early 1900s. The tracks once ran near the dunes to haul borax from Death Valley.

    2. Old School Buggy Mecca 
    Dumont was where early rail builders tested their homemade creations. Some of the first long-travel rails ran there in the late ’70s and early ’80s.

    3. “Comp Hill” Has Always Been the Proving Ground 
    Comp Hill (short for “Competition Hill”) got its name back when duners used to line up and drag race to the top for bragging rights.

    4. Home of the Dune Masters & Sand Pipers 
    Two long-time dune clubs — the Dune Masters and the Sand Pipers — have been organizing events, races, and charity runs at Dumont for decades. Their Thanksgiving and Presidents’ Weekend races are legendary.

    5. The Tallest Dune Tops 400 Feet! 
    The biggest dunes at Dumont rise more than 400 feet from base to crest — that’s taller than the Statue of Liberty!

    6. A Movie Star Dune 
    Parts of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi were filmed nearby in the Dumont/Death Valley region. Locals claim a few props and set pieces were once spotted buried in the sand.

    7. Razorbacks Are Born Every Summer 
    Each off-season, windstorms reshape the dunes completely. Riders who return every fall say it’s like a brand-new playground every year.

    8. Ghost Towns Nearby 
    Just beyond Dumont lie the remains of Amargosa and Ibex, old mining ghost towns that supplied borax and salt to the region — perfect side trips for history buffs.
