  1. I was always told a 12 hour charge at 2amps so it doesn't fry the deep cycle. Check all your connections. I though mine was draining too but figured out the ground was corroded and wasn't getting charged from the gen or truck.

    I purchased a Black & Decker smart charger from Walmart. It is computer controlled and knows what the charge rate should be and it does it in different cycles. It will even tell you if there is an open or shorted cell. It was well worth the $60.

  2. How many panels ? What wattage? Make? I know that Harbor Freight has a 45 watt solar panel kit on sale right now for $160.

    I currently have a solar system/inverter installed. It puts out about 6 amps to the batteries in full sun. Hardly enough to keep the batteries charged. I don't think there is enough surface area on our trailers to build an effective system. You would probably need a 30-50 amp system to keep the batteries charged enough to run everything but the A/C.
