  1. If your really worried, buy from Oregon or Montana. They have no sales tax. So they dont care about giving your info to other states and they need the business. The only reason the Utah (St George) dealers share your info is because the NV dealers b*tch to the Yamaha reps about loosing sales because of an unfair advantage for the out of state dealers. (nothing to do with the outrageous prices or crappy service). I have been told, the reps make them turn in the info to keep the competition fair. California does the same thing.

    If you want to save money, go to Rockriver Powersports in Wisconsin (google it). Our group has purchased 2 raptors, 3 rhinos, & 7 yfz's from them over the last 4 years. They smoke the pricing around here and ship to Vegas for about $250 a machine. No tax problems and they are good people to deal with.

North on 15 past St George to the Hurricane Exit which is also 9 or W State Street, Go South out of Hurricane on 59 through Colorado City (59 will change to 389 in Arizona) to Fredonia, the road will T in Fredonia turn left on Alt. 89 to Kanab (Alt. 89 will change to 11 in Utah until you hit Kanab), stay on the main drag through Kanab, You travel north on 89 out of Kanab about 10 - 12 miles to Hancock Road (Coral Pink Sign) and take the left, follow Hancock until it ends in a T and take a left on Sand Dunes Rd for couple miles and the campground (meadow) is on the leftside of the road. Approximately 3 - 4 hrs from Vegas

    Couple Notes: Pull up Colorado City, AZ on Mapquest and you can see this whole route. If you ask for directions on Mapquest it take you through Zion. The Coral Pink Sign / Hancock Rd out of Kanab is a pain to see at night, if you miss it (speaking from experience) Sand Dunes Rd also runs into 89 a little farther up. If you don't mind a little bit of gravel you can take a left just out of Colorado City on the road to the Cane Beds, it will save a bunch of time and turns into Sand Dunes Road.

  4. The gearing throws me, I don't know that I need to get back to stock exactly, just something that will give me the best overall performance both out of the hole and up the hill. I have a roll out of 72" and still running the stock gears, I need to buy some rear sprockets and bring someone to the hill that knows what they are doing with me.

    Start with a 13 up front its cheaper, the rear sprockets are over twice as much as the front. All you really need is a mule (another bike to consistently test against), the sprockets work just like an old ten speed. Just listen to the motor with each set up, if its bogging <down in front, up in back>; if its revving out <up in front, down in back>. Try the 13 upfront with the 22's i'll bet you'll be pleasantly surprised. I bought a 13 front and a 39 rear. I put the 13 on and never even messed with the back.

  5. Arron Does 1 tooth in front = 3 in the rear? I was talking with Scott and with the 22" rear tires we were trying to figure out what would get me back to where the bike is before the bigger tires. I bought a 13T but have not put it on yet, I want to wait until I can buy a swingarm first and then test. But if that is to drastic for what I have done then I will just buy a couple rear sprockets (which I plan on anyways). Any help would be appreciated.

    I don't think you can get back to stock gearing with 22"s. You would have to go to a 14/33 or a 15/35 and i don't know if they make a 33 or 35 rear. I was using a simple ratio formula of rear teeth / front teeth x rollout (circumference).

  6. I know before i wanted my bike to stay stock but now i want a pipe on it. Has anyone tried out the new pro circuit pipe, or the new white bros carbon pro. I know ragdoll mx has the dr.d and i rode his bike and it had a good sound to it but im looking for a good souding pipe that puts out a lot of power. The only pipe i dont like is big gun, cuz there sound like pepsi cans welded together but any other pipes any good.

  7. That is cool just curious, I would have to agree that the theory makes sense, but I still have to stock flywheel. I asked about doing one and was told unless the bike is just a shooter then might not want to do it. So I was curious what your experience has been with it. I originally wanted to do the WR kit, but decided to take it to a builder and let them handle it. I am also thinking about going bigger now, it is like crack just keeps you wanting more!!!!

    It's a disease, it grows deeper in you and infects everyone you dune with, isn't it great!

  8. Question I was told that a light weight fly wheel is not good for duning, I heard that it makes the bike more prone to stalling because of lack of rotating weight?

    The theory on that makes sense, but I haven't noticed a difference. I also did all the mods at once so i don't really know what affect just the flywheel change would do.

  9. Here's a setup that will be one of the fastest on the Hill. It cost ya but you can do it in steps

    Start with:

    Ron Woods - Pipe & Intake

    13tooth front sprocket & 22" skat traks

    Reject carb using the YZ Needle

    These 3 will get you better than most of the 450's

    Then do:

    450 wr kit crank/piston/cylinder out of the WR motorcycle (Magnolia motorsports)

    Port & Polish the head (Dee @ Rage Atv)

    -6 flywheel from trail tech

    GYTR CDI

    Web Cams (Dee will do custom grinding if you have the cash)

    Only problem here is this is about $2k in parts w/o labor. Buy the 450 book and do the install labor yourself

  10. If you want a pipe I've heard good things about the Ron Woods system (intake, carb, & pipe). Probably going to run above a grand but it is supposed to have a noticable performance gain.

    Here's a quick recipe for performance on the Rhino:

    BRP CDI, RAIS snorkel, KN Hardstyle intake, 155-160 main & flip the washers on the needle, clutch kit, and billet exhaust tip. (the tip will open the stock up to a 2" opening, it's as good as any slip on out there.) Use 25" Carlise 489's; 10's in front & 11 in rear; run 3.5 to 4 psi in sand. Spacers are a must, i have 2" all the way around and its night & day over stock. You'll make it up comp w/ this setup.

  11. I didn't see anyone mention changing gearing. Sprocket changes provide cheap (approx $15 Front, $40 rear) performance. If you want a little better acceleration for the hills go down a tooth in the front or up a tooth in the back. Think of it like a 10 speed or mountain bike. If you can pull comp hill in 2nd fine but 3rd bogs, dropping a tooth in the front will allow your engine to get the RPM's up to use 3rd and pull the hill faster. It will lower your top speed in each gear little, but not enough to notice. You can also change your rear tire size (tire hieght) to have a similar affect. Playing with both sprockets and tires will give you even more options. One note on sprockets, changing 1 tooth in the front is equal to 3 in the rear. I can't tell you what to run but typically the stock setup is for all around riding. I would start by dropping the front sprocket 1 tooth and see what you think, you'll notice a difference.

  12. Just remember, yellow, red, or blue, it doesn't matter off the showroom floor. No-one on this board or at Dumont is riding a bone stock quad. Everyone has at a minimum: a pipe, intake, gearing, tire-sizing & weight, powernow, K&N, jetting, or whatever easy bolt-on is out there. Speed = $$$ into the bike, period. If you want to be the fastest on the hill, breakout the cash. There is no out-the-door bike that will compete with out add-ons. No one runs a stock quad for long. Your accessory options breakdown like this: Yamaha = Most; Honda = Next; Suzuki = last. I like the suzuki because it pushes Yamaha to up their game, honda fell flat with their 450r, but I still believe the YFZ is the bike setting the bar.

  13. Are you buying new or used? If you are going used, I would look for the cleanest bike with the most/best bolt-on mods already on it. The mods cost a small fortune starting from scratch, and you'll end getting them eventually. I'd probably steer clear of bikes with motorwork unless your savvy with the tools.

    If your going new, then buy it from as far away from the southwest as possible. Rockriver Powersports in Wisconsin has treated me right on several purchases. Las Vegas shops will screw you to high heaven. In deciding the type, you need to match your riding style. Yamaha's are good for speed, Honda's are known more as a comfortable ride, Suzuki's are kind of a hybrid i guess. They all have their strengths. One thing is for sure Yamaha and Honda will have the best parts availability.

    All that being said I prefer YFZ's. I have 2 and wouldn't buy anything else.
