Spring Break for us is later. I plan on being out the 6th - 10th of April.

A little more on this. This is a a post on another site from the VP of Marketing for Unadilla Powersports.

I must say I am rather concerned about the

fate of our sport and industry. Not to mention our local communities

for the further loss of jobs and $$ that our industry brings in each

year. It is certainly that dire..believe me.

As of yesterday, all the OEMs had to pull for sale all new youth

minicycles and atvs for those under the age of 13...this under order

of the CPSC due to lead content of plastics and certain metals. As of

yesterday, a dealer or private individual can no longer provide parts

or service, to these affected machines, in which there is a

possibility that those same parts may contain lead...no oil changes,

plastic, levers, engine cases, etc, etc..goggles, helmets, clothing,

knee braces..you name it. You may think that is just for new machines,

but it is for everything new and used.

The CPSC also ruled that machines under 85cc are considered toxic to

the health of young children.

Effective yesterday, Honda has pulled replacement parts from their

service system for these machines pending lead certification...this

takes 400 days. KTM, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Yamaha are doing the same

thing. If you have a 1,2,3 year old machine, you won't be able to buy

most parts for it very soon.

Yamaha is sending out restrictions to its dealers saying that an 85cc

bike can only be sold, and should only be operated by someone over the

age of 13.

Now to the fun part for us as a race promoter.

Because the manufacturers are now issuing these guidelines, we as

promoters cannot allow a youth under the age of 13 to participate for

two reasons.

We are allowing someone to participate in a sanctioned activity on a

vehicle that has been determined by the manufacturer and the CPSC to

be unsafe for that age level.

We are allowing someone to participate in a sanctioned activity on a

vehicle that the CPSC has determined is a toxic substance.

If you think I am joking, consider the following

MX Sports is considering removing youth classes from the Loretta

Lynn's program, GNCC, and ATV Nationals...we run all three of these

series and I can tell you that these classes make up over 1/3 of our

entries and more than half of our attendance.

The AMA will be forced to ban youths under 13 from any AMA amateur or

pro competition due to legal ramifications. The same will apply to

local districts and sanctioning bodies, as insurance will not be

available to cover this exposure.

The lifeblood of our sport are these kids..if they cannot participate,

they will find something else to do, and we will not get them back.

They will not race, watch, or buy products. That means Mom, Dad and

older brothers/sisters won't be there either.

Unadilla would most likely not participate in any form of amateur

racing..with only half or less of the entries left, it wouldn't be

financially possible.

DO I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION YET!

There are two efforts going on right now to get a temporary stay

granted by the CPSC for "Off Road Vehicles." The MIC (Motorcycle

Industry Council) and Missouri State House Rep Mike Sense(#4 in line

in the MO st govt) are both developing grass roots letter campaigns

through websites to develop a ground swell of support for this stay.

Keep in mind this is only temporary, and unless a Federal injunction

or legislation is developed, this isn't going away.

There are several opinions floating around on this subject saying that

our thinking is flawed and that only the sale of new units is

affected...if that is the case, why are helmet, goggle, sneakers,

sunglasses, OEM parts and accessories, and dealer service being pulled

for these units???

I will leave you with this..if indeed this is overblown, and we are

right that we shouldn't be affected by this, it still doesn't mean

that we can't/won't be sued by someone using this logic, and worse

yet, convince a jury that the above is true. If it gets that far, you

will have spent nearly a million $$ in your own defense, just to prove

you were right all along.

I will get you info on the two websites, and I encourage you to beg

everyone you know that rides, owns, promotes, or attends an off road

sporting event to get everyone they know in the same manner to fill

out one of these letters...Every Mom Dad and Kid should individually

enter their name. Then they should contact their local representatives

too.

Good Afternoon...forget the good, as our country has descended into

lunacy.

Well boys and girls. Not sure if this has been discussed before but the Consumer Protection Agency has decided that there will be no more kids ATV's.

This piece of garbage took effect on the 10'th.

Headed out to the D on Monday early. Had a tire on the trailer blow out just outside Parhump. 45 minutes later and I was back moving again. Stopped in Parhump and nobody had a tire in the size I needed. I figured what the hell and continued on. Well just as I was coming down the grade towards the entrance road another tire blew. Well now what? I dropped the trailer and hauled butt into Baker where one of the repair shops had tires that fit. Got back to the trailer, put on a tire and got into Dumont at about 4PM.

The wind was blowing pretty good and the place was empty. There wasn't a track to be seen in the sand. Monday night the wind really picked up. It blew away my tables and broke my flagpole. The tables I found the next morning about a quarter mile down from me. Tuesday stayed pretty windy but not to the point you couldn't ride. Tracks in the sand were gone after about an hour. There were mayby about 5 trailers out total. Sand was smooth as can be and not a track on the backside of the dunes. Wednesday the wind stopped and it warmed up to the high 60's. Nobody out and still cutting fresh tracks through the dunes. Does it get any better. I pulled out this morning as the wind was picking back up. There is still basically no tracks in the dunes and nobody out. The road in was in really good shape. I was able to do 25-30 with a 40 foot fifth wheel with no problems and could have gone faster if I had wanted to.

Everybody heading out for Superbowl weekend will have some great conditions for riding. Have fun and ride safe.

Hopefully the sand will still be good. I'm heading out first thing in the morning for 4 days. Anybody out feel free to stop by and say hi. I'll be in a Rampage fifth wheel with a black Dodge dually.

I just happened to be looking at the home page that first comes up for this site. Lo and behold as I am looking down the page in the advertisers section there is an ad from AMR Graphics. In the ad is MY Rhino. Funny thing is I don't even know how they got the photo that they are using.

On another issue, I haven't had a chance to meet up with anybody from the site during some of my trips. I am looking at going out next week, Mon-Thurs and was wondering if anybody planned on being out there since I will be making this run solo.

I work in the medical field in Las Vegas. Having done so since I moved here I can tell you that medicine in Vegas sucks. I am a nurse and so is my wife. We both have over 20 years as nurses, most of that as Emergency Room nurses. I would not let almost all of the doctors that I have come in to contact with here in Vegas touch me. This latest item does not suprise me at all. In fact I have specific instructions that if I am hurt at Dumont that I want to be flown to Loma Linda in Caifornia instead ofback here to Vegas as they do most of the injuries out there.

Heading out to Dumont tomorrow. I am running solo at this point. If anyone else is out, stop on by. I will be driving a black Dodge Ram with a Rampage fifth wheel trailer. Not sure of camping spot yet. See Ya in the Dunes!

There has been a lot of talk about the idiots out at Dumont. Well while out for Thanksgiving I got to witness some Karma at work. Had a couple of boneheads that had already been past my camp twice and had dusted us out both times. Well as they came by again I happened to be stding by the back of my hauler. I raised my hands to signal "What the heck and to slow down" One of said boneheads proceeds to spin the tires and kick up more dust. He then turns and flips me off. Well while he was looking back with the bird in the air he catches a rut, swaps ends with his quad and gets tossed about 20 feet. He got up right away but I could tell that he heard laughter from all the camps that had witnessed this. Best part was that it turned out to be some 15 year old kid who went back to camp and tried to tell his dad that I was the one who caused him to crash. When dad showed up wanting to know what was up and had multiple people tell him about his kid's action's I thought dad was going to kill him right there on the spot. Dad made him apologize and took away all his riding privileges for the rest of the month. The old be kind to others may have something to it after all.
