  2. You can thank the lazy a$$ BLM. They get paid all this money, overtime, etc., to do jacksh!t. That is one of the things they are suppose to do. They are to level all the 3 wheeler tracks but they are too worried about the guy who lost his flag and want to ticket him instead of things like this that can kill people and the prick who has a 2000 pound buggy doing 50-60 by people's camps. I wish the BLM would either do their job or get the hell out of Dumont like in the old days.

  3. "THE ROAD SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If that is what our money goes to, then the blm can keep it for themselves...i couldnt go faster than 15 mph unless I wanted a headache after i got off the road...should have left the damn road alone...now the prices are doubled...i wonder what the blm is going to do next with the extra money....make the road have whoops like comp hill??? like i said before, ordinary citizens' imput does not make a difference when it comes to the government...because if it did, the road would not be screwed up now...im done with my ranting about the road...hopefully over the summer the road will magically go back to the way it was."

Kinda looks to me as if your saying the same thing? On one hand your giving him the what for as things have changed but your bitchen in other posts that nothing has changed except for bathrooms(which by the way were installed before fee demo money came around) Then you say you don't care what they do as your not going to have any say in the matter. trust me the money is the issue! You have a say, you may not always feel that you have made a difference but trust me you do. I have felt that way many times just in the last year and then all of a sudden they get it and it clicks. You never know what you can accomplish unless you try.

all i was saying is of course we care what they do with it, but its not worth loosing sleep over because they control the money and where it goes...thats all...never said anything about bathrooms (at least i dont think i did)...i couldnt care less if anything changed at all and we still had to pay the fees...its been good for decades the way it was, so why change a good thing?? so as of now, the road is screwed up even worse, but hopefully they will cure the problem and we will all be happy....and if they dont fix it, then we will have to :beercheers:

  4. Well I'm new to this site and slighty new to the Dunes 6 months ago the rode was way better so at first without knowing facts you get a little pissy when the road is worse but now knowing I'll help in whatever way I can to keep the dunes from shutting down that includes going to meeting if it will help anything.

And BTW who cares what they do with the money. The other choice is Amargosa with no bathrooms and talk about roads going in LOL do you have a trailer left when your done is the question not how slow you go.

So I have to agree with Vicki lets just do what we have to do to keep it open and smile :ban-split:

If you are new, then you havent seen everything change and develop into what it is today....and who cares what they do with the money????????? i think we all care what they do with the money...that doesnt make much sense to not care :angry2:

  5. You can argue all you want about dust. The fact of the matter is it is considered air pollution. Especially here in Clark County. That doesn't mean I agree with it....it's just a fact we have to deal with.

    For more info...click

i agree but that is in a metropolitan area...not in the middle of nowhere...eventually 2 strokes will be outlawed too because they create too much pollution, etc etc etc...its always going to be one thing after another but we have no choice if we wanna ride :angry2:

  6. The dust issue is not an "excuse." It is a serious problem, not just here but in many of our off-road areas.

A lawsuit was filed a while back about the dust in Ocotillo Wells. One suggestion for that area was (and you'll love this) to pave all the off-road trails.

    No, I'm not kidding.

Closing an off-road area due to blowing dust defies common sense.

But common sense does not have a place in these lawsuits.

The situation is really quite simple -- cure the dust problem.

Their solution is to close Dumont.

We're working to find a better solution.

Join the side that's working to keep it open or help the other side by ignoring/denying the problem.

    Choice is yours.

    Vicki

I agree that we have to please the dumbass environmentalists...dust is going to happen if it is windy so should we put brick walls around all deserts and dunes so the people over 30 miles away will shut up...im just saying i wish these tree huggers would get a life and do something better with their time...i appreciate anything anyone does to help the dunes stay open...i just wish we wouldnt have to worry about such trivial stuff such as dust of all things

  7. The road is not finished, it is to rolled and watered and rolled again. The main reason the road is a success is the dust level. We have quite a bit of problems coming from surronding communities and dust was one of them but this is the first step. Will the road be a smoooth road, probably not. Will there be less dust for us and others to endure it looks like it.

Thanks for your input Spider as usual there are the b*tchers and moaners who never get involved until it's all over and noone can criticize the decisions they made as they don't make any!

This isn't rocket science, it's a road to an OFF ROAD area, if you want smooth highways go watch drag races at the speedway where the tickets for the weekend are a cpl hundred instead of $120.00 for the whole year! Cause as of now your talking to :no_no:

    Terry

You just made my point for me....you said "it's a road to an OFF ROAD area"...i totally agree with you there, so what is the point in doing anything to the road if its an "OFF ROAD" road???? thats not rocket science is it??? :beercheers: and dust is no excuse because IT IS A DESERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what do people expect from a desert?

  8. Personally the road is worse, it is washboard all way to the entrance 25 mph speed limit? you barely go 15.

THE ROAD SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If that is what our money goes to, then the blm can keep it for themselves...i couldnt go faster than 15 mph unless I wanted a headache after i got off the road...should have left the damn road alone...now the prices are doubled...i wonder what the blm is going to do next with the extra money....make the road have whoops like comp hill??? like i said before, ordinary citizens' imput does not make a difference when it comes to the government...because if it did, the road would not be screwed up now...im done with my ranting about the road...hopefully over the summer the road will magically go back to the way it was.

  9. Ok, here's the deal! The road as of now is unfinished. It needs to be watered and rolled. Do I think it's going to be as smooth as a baby's behind, no. Will it be better, I certainly hope so. BLM was advised that the road needs smoothing out and rolling along with some material at the entrance as it is already showing through. This was noted by BLM and all we can do is hope that it will be taken care of. The cost was $98,000.00 which paid for 300 loads of recycled asphalt. Would I like to have my street as an entrance road? To be honest no I would not, never wanted the road paved and this is as close as I want it to be. The main concern on the road was to cut the dust down, to that degree it did the job it was supposed to and will continue to do so. Is the road a drag strip well to some idiots it always has. Nothing has changed if you see a fast moving vehicle coming by you move to the right and slow down or stop to avoid rocks etc. That hasn't changed nor will it appear to change in the future. The areas surronding Dumont, IE Shoshone and Tecopa are complaining about the dust, trash and black tank dumping so the battle is coming. Take your trash and black tanks back home not to the roadside or into these small towns as they are complaining about being overwhelmed by traffic and trash. This may have a greenie based backing but it is a battle brewing none the less.

Spider, if your so damm interested in how the money is spent maybe you should get off your butt and join Friends of Dumont Dunes and help out, or at the very least talk to a board member to get the real skinny on where the money is going. As a matter of fact more Law Enforcement has been a focus over the last 2 years along with the road improvements, bridge improvments etc. that have been done and are planned. So before you condem those that try to save your riding area for you maybe you should get yourself involved!

    Further notice is that fees will be going up next year to make up for lost green sticker money and approprations that we lost from the state of CA. and the federal Goverment. Here's the breakdown;

    7 day pass $30.00

    Annual pass $90.00

Holiday surcharge $10.00 (applies to halloween, Thanksgiving, New Years, Presidents Day and Easter)

Annual pass upgrade to include all 5 holiday periods $120.00

This makes sense to have the users on the busy weekend help pay for the added LEO's and EMT's that are needed.

My thanks to Dave for going down with me and to Mike for taking the time to go to the meeting . Remember the public is invited and encourged to attend these meetings. The next one is June 5th at 10:00 AM at the BLM field office in Barstow.

    Terry

You are right, I could attend every meeting possible, write letters, start organizations, etc., but honestly that isnt going to do much. My opinion is that the blm and government in general are going to do what they want with our money no matter what we do. Discussing stuff with the government is like talking to a brick wall. JMO

  10. everyone needs to stop crying and deal with it. we have some friends that have the 300k motorhomes and trailers to match, and they got smart....they left them at home, bought a toyhauler that "they dont care if it gets scratched" and go out and have a good time. its almost embarassing to hear of all the people crying about the road. STAY HOME THEN!!!! it seems to be that dune riding is not about how badass you motorhome/trailer is, or am i missing something????

I dont know if you are playing with a full deck here...regardless if my toyhauler/mh is 5 dollars or 150k, why do i want it to be ruined or damaged because the blm decides to do a half a$$ job on the road...nobody wants that stuff to be thrown up against their rigs...

Also, why would I want my 60 dollars, 120 dollars, etc? for fees to go to a road that is going to ruin my stuff and be worse than the dirt road that was already there...why dont they use our fees on something more useful like more rangers, etc...

And by the way, this has nothing to do with dune riding as you eluded to...it has to deal with the stupid blm wasting our fee money on something that was doomed to fail from the beginning.

  11. I'll take some pics of the progress this weekend and post them up when I get back. :dunce:

    1. If people try to make it a drag strip, just take your 30 foot toyhauler and put it in the middle of the road so that they cant pass you thinking it is an invitation to race. :freakin_nuts: Or just start weaving like race cars do during caution laps. :laughoff:

    2. Many mixed feelings about paving because if they do not do it right the first time, and just throw it down there, it will be worse than a washboard dirt road. :laughoff:

    JMO

  12. Thanks. Yes the tires had some pretty good bite and hooked really well. I never got over to comp. I somehow never really made it over there. :mc_smiley: I doubt I'd be THAT fast up comp since it isn't as fast as the turboed cars, but I bet it would still produce some good #'s. I'm not much of a hill shooter though. I like to dune. :ban-split:

    sweet duner then

  13. :beercheers: ...looked sweet pete...the blue even looked better in person

Looks really good...larry does make an awesome car...did you get any #'s up comp right or anything...you should take it to sand mountain utah and see how fast it goes...ours did 94 up sand mt...how did those paddles do? looks like a lot of bite.

  14. Wow, I wonder how it feels to have a stick so far up one's behind like this guy does.

And spider, just last night I was saying how I HOPE to meet you out there! Perhaps we can do some shots :drinkbeer:

    Bye :freakin_nuts:

    I'm sure you were

  15. Let me spell it out for you. My friend Matt (on the quad) drove over to the hill BEFORE he had anything to drink. He brought over a few beers in his pockets to share w/ us. Matt had 2 beers while sitting there for about 4 hours. Have you ever heard the rule of thumb that law enforcement says is acceptable amount.....one beer per hour. If you drink 2 beers in 4 hours there isn't going to be any amount of alcohol in one's system to impair their ability to drive. You can stop your bitchen and worrying now because we aren't those drunken idiots you see at the dunes that get on there bikes and go cause harm to others. As mineurbiz said....GET A CLUE. While your at it...get lost! You need to find a hobby other than talking sh*t on the internet and stirring up arguements!

    Have a nice day :D

  16. Hey smartass, we weren't even driving. Last I knew drinking and WALKING was legal. :flipoff:

Then I guess that 4 stroke just got up, started itself, and drove to the hill...wow that is amazing...and i dont care how long you were there or how many you had, it still can hurt others, but as long as you dont get hurt huh?. :beercheers: ...drink and drive all you want, i just hope i dont encounter you on the dunes...have a great day

  17. What group has come forward with this idea of getting dumpsters? The BLM? TRT?

So far it seems the concensus is NO DUMPSTERS.

What problem are they trying to fix? Trash? I really don't see trash as that much of a problem. Even as much trash as I sometimes see left behind- I think it always gets picked up by duners.

Oh and the other topic at hand that was brought up (paved road)- HELL NO! :driver: Haven't you guys ever heard the saying?....."Good roads bring bad people...bad roads bring good" :mischevious: It's true! :D

Dumpsters wouldnt serve their purpose anyways because they are just going to be filled with garbage from people who take their garbage home and throw it away...the people who leave their trash everywhere are still going to do it regardless if there are dumpsters or not...i just want the road paved so my stuff doesnt get dirty  :argue:
