  1. one thing that really got me down this year at the show was the blatant anti-family values groups that were at the show. yes, i may be acting petty here, but i have to point it out, because, in the final analysis, these things kill us in the public perception realm

what i realized at this show was that we are killing ourselves, or allowing the bad influences to exist, to a certain extent, that continually injure us and our sport in the perception of what we do that is portrayed upon the public.

This show would have been a cornucopa of material to aide in our adversaries quest to shut down more riding areas...just a few glaring examples......

on one large flatscreen in front of a building was playing a compilation of crashes, sandcar, quad, sxs and dune vehicle crashes...some ugly, lots of foul language, with women at the booth with a large number of "bolt ons" and "re racks" in clothing highly suggestive of a girls gone wild video, or a porn shoot in copper canyon. it seemed that this large group of peeps gathered around this big screen were worshipping the demise of our sport....eweeing and ahhhing at the crashes, while drinking up 7 dollar beers with basically strippers pimping their aftermarket accessories...... no way would i have taken string cheese to this show due to the graphic nature of oversexualization that seemed to permiate this venue.

a few booths seemed to continue this trend, but one was just waaaaay over the top....BIG TITTY CREW. complete with shirts and stickers, one couldnt help but notice their booth. yeah, it get it that testosterone drives our sport, and that the cutting edge guys of our sport drive this kind of behavior, but again, it is far from a family atmosphere, which we try to push, expecially with our backs against the wall continually fighting against the CBD and Sierra club.

i find it oxymoronic that some of us take time out of our lives to go to meetings in an attempt become informed and diligently do all we can to keep our riding areas open, yet seeing all the bullshit that reverses all we do in that attempt undone, at least in the public eye, at an event of this magnitude. i wouldnt be the least bit surprised if vido footage or pics of this event, shot by our adversaries, winds up in the media somewhere, being used against us.

a quote, which is still ringing in my ear, was made by a high up person in one of the off-road coalitions to me....."look all around you....this would be a media frenzy of negative attention to our sports......we do it to ourselves...." :laughoff:

this show proved to me that we, as off-roaders, are nowhere near being on the same page as far as cohesiveness needed to fight off the groups and movements attempting to shut down our riding areas.

    GREAT SHOW.............................................BAD MESSAGE :laughoff:

    well said, mr cheese....

  2. Ok - so usually the trick or treat night is on Saturday of the Halloween weekend. But this year Halloween is on Friday night. Will most/all folks be handing out candy on Friday night? Does anyone think there will be some hold outs (or folks who can't get there early enough on Friday) and that kids will be T&T on Saturday?

    I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you will find a lot of people out of candy on saturday nite......you will also find a lot of people that didn't bring ANY candy at all....but you WILL find plenty of candy even on sat nite. been tick-or-treating at least a half dozen years at dumont and kids never go hungry! look for halloween decorations on moho's,they are usually well stocked... and don't forget to see the haunted house toyhauler conversions.....have seen a ton of

really great ones! JUST REMEMBER HOW DANGEROUS IT IS OUT THERE AT NIGHT! DO NOT LET KIDS GO BY THEMSELVES, UNLESS THEY ARE TOO OLD TO BE TRICK-OR-TREATING! I have seen a few close calls.

  3. just heard there's a deal to make a movie "killing rommel".....some of you will remember last year they made a youtube movie at dumont about the book out recently by the same title. i for one will be looking to see that movie.....will be about the british chasing rommel through the dunes of africa during ww2....talk about old school duning! i know it's early to be talking about this, but one o these days they will be filming it....who knows. dumont or glamis is my guess.

  4. LOL.....that's great that your having so much fun in that car!! It was a tough decision to sell it, but I'm glad it went to someone who really appreciates it. I'll look for you guys the next time we go out to Dumont. I'm thinking about maybe making a trip out there around Halloween, so I'll stop by and say  if we are out there.

do you know how much that bad boy weighs? thanks again for hauling captain clam's old subaru rail to me last year! kinda lookin for something with v8 or hyabusa now, (as long as i can steal it). i like the thought of taking rail and quads to the dunes at the same time but afraid that's a little heavy for the moho.

  5. One more thing, another huge thanks goes out to YNOT (Terry) for everything he does for us. That drive to Barstow SUCKS bad and costs lots of time and money in fuel and time away work. This has been the 3rd meeting I have attended and I really started to realize what he and all the other TRT members go through to help out Dumont. THANK YOU! :woo_hoo::laughoff::driver:

i'd like to be at the next meeting, pete. and i know what yuh mean about barstool....i spent a week there one night.

  6. my kids always make a good haul on haloween. we usually get more candy in one hour at the dunes than 2 hours running the neighborhood around home. make sure to bring their costumes. usually several haunted house toyhaulers too.oct 31 to nov 2 for us. only problem is it's so crowded it's a little dangerous. careful is the order for that night!

  7. I'm not a regular poster on the boards here but this was the 2nd place I thought of to seek help. A buddy of mine just called and told me somebody stole his Jeep rubicon ( spelling ? ) out of his garage last night in Hemet. I'm really looking for a website like this one but pertaining more to the Jeep people, something with a few forum options. This was not your everyday Jeep as I understand it, had all kinds of trick, high buck after market stuff on it, stuff that will have to be parted out, CHEAP, as I'm thinking even the stupidest of thieves would try to unload it as it is. My buddy say's the wheels & tires ( goodyear 35 inchers ) are what would make this rig stand out. Thanks in advance for any help

  8. I wonder if there's any interest in making a new category on ddr about movies filmed at dumont. A few come to mind without thinking much.....The hulk...Hidalgo...Another 48 hours.

......heres a link to the youtube filmed a couple months ago about ww2 desert warfare book called killing rommel.....im told there are 3 videos if you google .them
  9. That's pretty cool. It'll be neat to see Dumont in a movie. :coffee:

  10. my issue was they were being overly abusive to her because that dumb @ss camera was there. cops are so fake. they do it all for show. and theres alot better things to do than bust a 17 year old girl for having a beer at dumont on presidents day weekend. :mischevious:

hmmmm. i personally cant think of a BETTER use of l.e.o. time than taking out a MINOR under the influence of alcohol at the dunes!! a huge percentage of accidents out there involve alcohol! sheesh! if you rode the dunes for a LIVING you would be a serious candidate for another tv show..."worlds most dangerous jobs". i'm sure i will get some sh*t for badmouthing alcohol in the dunes, probly from the type of guy that would give his 16 year old a bottle of whiskey with his new drivers liscence... and as for the guys in the funco(rented from funco for filming) that i talked to i distinctly remember "court tv" as part of the conversation. they also mentioned the same type of filming at the river with the cops....said it would be similar to the "cops" show on tv. bet the part where they were filming the female officer that tipped her quad over and pinned her under it near the north pole won't make the show. just more ammunition to make us look bad if yuh ask me(and yuh didn't).....just wish there was a way to make the drunks run into eachother instead of us sober people.

  11. was thinkin about it on the way home. when i filled the gas tank the gas can was leaking and it was going over the end of the left exhaust pipe. didnt think much of it then but maybe the gas went in the pipe and into the motor. the bike ran great all day until i filled it up that last time. that really sucked because i was looking forward to that last ride. again thanks for the ride. chris got some good video i will try to send you. the squirt sure enjoyed it. each time chris put the camera on her she had a big smile on her face. :D no fear. she will be a handfull when she gets her own quad someday. wont be to long from now.

sure would like to see that video....let me know....my pleasure on giving rides, just glad they enjoyed it! hope to see ya soon.

here are a few. we passed them on the way back from riding. jj went back out with the other guys to bring a ratchet strap and i gave chris the camera to go and take some pics.

didja ever figure out why the 700 kowy wouldnt start, dave. was a definate bummer as i was lookin forward to duning with yuh...........maybe next time. we usually park in the same place.

  13. Hi all,

Im bad with names but I know a bunch of people from the boards helped this weekend with the unfortunate event (broken micro stub) in the middle of the dunes.. I would have never made it out of there if it was not for your help :)

I know I always stoped to help people in the dirt, water, street or whatever... It came back to me in spades this trip and the DDR people came out in force.

After taking the car appart and looking at the other side it seems that both sides will be changed to insure that not happening anytime soon again.. there is some stress/overspray on the other side from some previous injuries.

but outside of that.. Im extreeeeeemly happy with car, we had a blast while it lasted and it was good to meet you guys in person.

I look forward to getting the car back together and hooking up with all of you again.

    thanks VERY much

    Mark :laughoff:

i was the guy on the bombardier barking all the orders(sorry for trying to take over). i was afraid we would lose the guy with the bronco so thought we needed to hurry up. he was a real trooper for hanging in there for an hour with several different people throwing opinions on how it should be done. my mantra is to always help more people than help me. karma. once that bronc got moving there was no stoppin it!

  14. two subaru powered sandrails....one red, one purple. arrive early sat. leave sun pm. two sons 4 and 6(with toys). my friend likes to park right across the road from the camp host, usually within a couple hundred yards or so. always looking for new friends in the dunes.

  15. Pete-

I am off Thursday till Tuesday. We might head out early Friday morning and stay till Monday.

I lost my cell phone over Thanksgiving so I don't have your number. call me and let me know where your camping and I would love to hang out with you guys again!!!

didja lose it at dumont? nevada jim was just telling me yesterday he found one...i think he said its crushed anyway. i found a set of car/house keys yesterday.
