Also, why are you still running the air injection? Are you really worried about emissions on a sandcar?

i'm running 31" tall triple razor front tires on this rail, which have a lot of bite, and could very easily rip off a thumb if the front end grabs without power steering.

as far as air injection, i'm sure your referring to all the smog stuff on the front of the motor, no, that stuff will be gone.

I dropped the motor off (along with another one getting the exact same work done for a Dubai customer) to get the motor work done. We're going with a 1400 cc kit, and everything else you can think of being done to the motor including cryofreezing the transmission. Should be putting 240-260hp to the rear wheels when she's done. The advantage of this over the turbo is all the weak parts of the busa are being switched out for better components, and the low and mid end torque you get from motor work will surpass a turbo, which needs some rpm to kick in, and motor work is instantaneous, plus it will have the low grunt of a powerful motor, and i'm actually gonna get the customer into the work for a little less than a turbo.....

I'm building a motor stand so the builder can dyno the motor, custom map it, and then do about a 100 mile dyno break in so the engine is done perfect.....

got the power steering and alternator installed....

Seen the full program down in Glamis when OGP, JoeDuner and I were down there, one of the camera guys had it on film and had it up on the big screen. Supposed to be on TV sometime soon, that entire program looks like a good series.....SF Woody

yerp,..i'm prototyping a 4 seater that is 12 foot long with 114" wheelbase. I've designed the frame to run a busa or an ecotec. Altho there is plenty of room for 4 full size adults, I am building this for the typical family with a couple kids. The stock busa will push a basic family around fine, more weight in the back simply needs some motor work and/or a turbo, or an ecotec. It has the same track width as my 2 seater, and will weigh about the same.

This is a ROUGH first mockup, the final will have quite a few changes...

C'MONNNNNNN, i was ecxpecting to see a in dash DVD player, and a cappichino machine....PIMP THAT RIDE!....lol..it looks friggin awesome. cant wait to see it in action!

Well one of the things I hate about being so anal about stuff, is half the sh*t people will never see, lol.

We finished up the firewall today, I have a removable compartment so you can get to the spark plugs, easy access even when the seats are installed...

I dont know much about sand rails, but have a minor background in some fabrication, and that frame looks fuggin sweeeet, deffinantly a great job all the way around.

does that mean you don't think it looks like a squished stinkbug?

i really like your cars too; you are daring and not a " monkey see monkey do " like sooooo many others. i think you actually enjoy to be different (i guess just as much as i do )

you got me scared for a second when i did see all them rivets (hint hint ) .... but then i realized its just a clever way to mount the panels without dzus fasteners (i hate them rattling SOB`s)

btw are you using regular pop rivets?

Thank ya much, were using the self sealing aluminum rivets.. The rivets are never removed, they attach to some angle we make on the backside, the angle has 5/8" holes in it with rubber grommets that attach to some 3/4" long, threaded inserts I had custom made that are welded to the chassis. I also spaced all the panels 1/16" away from the tub around the edges, I will use a thin weatherstrip type material around all the edges of the panels to eliminate any vibration. The rivets pretty much disappear when powdercoated with the rail, other fasteners draw your attention to them, as well as dimple the panel around them making them even more noticeable. The rivets are not gonna be really noticeable until you get close and then they just add to the detail. They are also cosmetic, a lot of them are dead rivets, not attaching to anything, there are 100 in the hood alone, around 400+ for the whole rail....

Also, the headers just showed up. I'm waiting on the powersteering, and custom alternator kit to show up so I can finish up the subframe....

lol,..not on this one, it's his demo, he sold the other demo before he had this one, so now he has nothing to show or take people out for test drives in. He will keep this for the demo, and any orders made to him buy customers can get whatever color they want for their car, but this one is black on black, lol....

basically, the theme is to scare little kids from 50 foot away when the rail is parked, I think we're almost there, lol

Will the panels be painted or powdercoated? Are you looking to have a flat/ matte finish in the end kinda like the photoshop pics? That would be sweet.

Powdercoat......The color I pitched for this rail is satin black panels, gloss black frame/suspension, and polished rims to accent the chrome shocks that will have black coils, but I believe federal prefers all the above with gloss black rims and polished rings like the first pic he posted, so that's what it will be unless he changes his mind...lol

thank ya much, my aluminum guy is really good at what he does. I told him what I wanted, and made rough mock ups outta poster board, and put what was in on head onto the rail...

I widened up the subframe tubes to 26" because the ecotec is 25" with headers. The chassis is wide enough, the cvt is small and light enough, I just have to build a chassis without tabbing the busa mounts, and line up an ecotec instead. What till you see how i'm gonna do the shifting, it will be a manual cvt wit hthe smoothness of a cvt, not clutch, and not slamming into gears, just smooth transitions from the lowest to the highest, it's gonna be pretty cool, something that hasn't been done before but very simply and has fewer moving parts than a typical cvt...

Would it fit in a mid-engine configuration or rear?

Interior is not done, there will be a divider plate, as well as a passenger foot rest.

I set the chassis up to accept an ecotec with a cvt drive. I will prob.. get around to it before too long, but not right this moment. I've been researching to find the strongest belt on the market, and lucky for me there are manufactures making them for bigger vehicles and auto's now instead of just quads and bikes, much tougher with extremely strong material including metal shims and Kevlar and/or carbon fiber type reinforcement...

Does anyone out there have some hard evidence on drive axles for sand cars. I have a sand car 450 hp LS1 with 2D trans and have drive axles from Jesse @ highangle drive axles. Only have about 150 gallons of fuel through car and found that the side plates of trans have cracks already???? any help on why or experiences would help, probably should go to CV's

the 2D tranny case is cast, cast is weaker, some people have broke the exact same case multiple times with cv's. The problem isn't with jess's axles only, it's u-joint axles. Splined slip shafts don't plunge quite as smoothly, which puts a little more load on the inner trailing arm mount, and the side case of the tranny. If you have good tabs for the inner trailing arm mount, and the covers on the side of your tranny are not cast, you will be fine. Everyone that has broken a tranny ccase had a cast cover, others have been running them for quite a few seasons with no problems and they have had no failures. The 2d is a good tranny, but it is one of the weaker brands to my knowledge, and the only tranny that is having issues with u-joint axles in general....

All the ripped out tabs that have been posted were rather thin, and not braced properly...

lol, I love this comment, without the wing on the old model, I could kinda see why you said that, but with the new design, I see no similarities to a "squashed stink bug", but no big deal, I know how old people get stuck in their ways and have weird perceptions of what looks good today compared what looked good when they use to pay a nickel to watch a movie, I can't make everyone happy, so I just work on the ones that count....

im seriously considering biulding a hybrid like that guy on glamis .com only with a busa and chain drive but make a similar frame so it will meet my space in trailer requirements

The reverse diff is $3,600.00. The busa powerplants average $3,500.00 with the wiring harness and airbox.

You can buy stuff through me if you wish. On your project, what are your space requirements, I have a SXS I am prototyping that is not much bigger than a rhino that is set up for a busa motor. It is under 10 foot long and 65" wide. I could make you a pretty good deal on a frame or roller package if you were interested...

lol,..here's a few more pics. I photoshoped the satin black color on the car, and this rail will have 31" tall triple razors on beadlocks on the front instead of the 28" tall razors. Also haven't got the rear bypass mounted, or any of the coil springs yet, but it's coming along pretty nice so far.....
