  1. ....and that's why Amargosa doesn't get too crowded. :rockwoot: But then again all of this really has nothing to do with caution tape.

sure it does...the topic morphed into why people think they need caution tape...that was due to the sheer amount of people on crowded weekends, to which amargosa was brought up.

  2. Tall and steep like dumont... bout 1/3 the size... its 1hr north of vegas.. or 30-45 min the other side of pahrump..

so, coming from barstow, i would have to go another hour to V-town, then another hour to Amargosa???

like I said "off weekends", like superbowl weekends work great. last year, friday, didn't see any other tracks in the dunes until 1030am

    pretty cool

  3. That's the weekend that the restroom was surrounded. When I go on Prez's weekend I already know what it's going to be like. I go on that weekend to see the "show". If I wanted uncrowded duning then I'd hit Amargosa on bigger weekends.

At one time I wanted to go to Oceano, but from what I've heard and pics I've seen....I'll probably never go. :laughoff: I'd much rather hit up Coos bay or something like that. :finger:

you should try oceano at least once..... granted, the dunes are anthills compared to dumont, but in the summertime, you can't beat opening up your toyhauler in the morning to the sound of the ocean, or going to sleep to it....and if you park too close, waking up to it in your camp!!

plus the town of pissmo be(er)ach is right there, with great seafood, outlet malls, and a ton of other things to do too. college town of san luis obispo, right up the 101 :stick_smack::beerpint: :smoker: :barf:

where the hell is amargosa dunes? how big is the park? big dunes like dumont???

  4. I'm sure you'll have your chance on President's day. :stick_smack:

never been on prez's day. sounds like a giant cluster :barf: I have only been twice, and on superbowl weekends both times

I usually ride @ oceano dunes, and that place is a freekin nightmare...1500 acres including camping, with up to 1000 trailers, plus 1000 dayuse passes that can be issued every day...

that is why I go on off weekends

  5. I hear a while back from Ken (KensColors) that sand dunes actually make noise. I found an article by National Geographic about it. It's kinda interesting so thought I'd share it. The friction between the difference in the grains of sand causes a low frequency boom noise. :beerpint:http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/20...sand_dunes.html

    "Age-Old Mystery

Records of the sound are centuries old. Hunt has a book, Tales of Travel, published in 1923, which mentions that explorer Marco Polo knew about it. The tribes of the Sahara in Africa are said to have thought God was speaking to them through the sand. "

dude, that was just the effect of the mushrooms and the peyote they ingested on a daily basis :stick_smack::barf:

  6. Keep some monopoly money with ya roll your window down when they hobble up to ya hand em some monopoly money :laughoff:

it does piss me off you cant go into any store without one of them effers beggin for money :finger:

back in my college daze :smoker: :beerpint::barf::stick_smack: , I used to escort a group of strippers i had classes with to bachelor parties.

one time, the group of guys, unbeknownst to us, had previously ripped 10's and 20's in half, and rolledthem up like regular bills.

after the first show, rayne :D calls me back into the bedroom, and shows me the money. the girls wanted to leave, so we decide to go out the sliding glass door in the back and go around front. we get to the front of the house, and there stands about 20 pissed off guys who all chipped in and came up with about 500 bucks to see what usually amounts to a bunch of naked hotties doin things on the floor with each other.

there I stand with 5 girls, with 20 guys blocking our path, and the smallest girl, onya (no sh!t, that was her stage name :D ) pulls out a glock 9 mm and lets a few rounds fly in the air

needless to say, we made it out of there ok. never went back out with those crazy biaaaaatches again

  7. I dont seem them huddled around the crapper when its 110 out... !!! dumb bastages!

ya know, compared to the other places I have ridden, the crappers @ dumont are pretty much first class. no smell, very little graffitti

now, maybe if they smelled bad :barf: ............................

If I EVER see that when I am there, I will Def not only say something to the group of people around it, but also to the ranger

    that is freekin B.S.

  8. blocking off the bathroom with moho's is just retarded. I would have blown through there in the middle of the night on my DS650, consantly clutching and revving...maybe they would have got the hint

as far as kids playing on the dunes themselves :angry22: what in the hell are those parents thinking??? I understand the kids need a place to play, but not ON the dunes themselves, that is just a recipe for a lifeflight. set up a mini track around camp or something, or get creative with a shovel at camp, and build your own sandhill :flipoff:

  9. THAT TROPHY TRUCK IS PRETTY SICK, BUT ITS ONLY A 256CC. I FIGURED THAT IT WOULD BE A LIITLE MORE DIFFICULT TO FIND PARTS COMPARED TO A RHINO, BUT ITS AN 800CC COMPARED TO THE RHINOS 700CC. I HAVE DONE MORE HOMEWORK ON IT AND I FOUND THEM FOR ABOUT $7000-8000. THEY WEIGH ABOUT 1050 LBS., HAVE A WINCH, OFFROAD LIGHTS AND A SUZUKI 800 MOTOR. THEY SEEM LIKE A GOOD BUY, BUT I AM A LITTLE WORRIED ABOUT REPLACMENT PARTS.

those things are made in china. they are geared WAY high for the sand. you will be lucky to get out of 1st gear in the hills.

get a rhino, or a ranger

believe me, I am in the same shoes you are, looking for a mini rail or rhino.

  10. Yea that helped me too, but then they started arguing about which movie to watch.

I remind them that when I was their age we didn't have this fancy dvd stuff :rainbow1:

yeah..........i carry around a copy of the sound of music...if my son starts complaining, i just pop in the sound of music. if they still complain, i turn it off all together. if they still complain........we turn around go home, find a babysitter, and me and the missus go by ourselves :beercheers:

  11. Glamis... :D when the sun goes down.. .then let the party get started.. :D Summer night rides under a full moon in soft un touched virgin dunes... :D

in 90+ degree weather...............? no thanks...ill be chillin with a sweatshirt and my ugs next to a fire at pismo dunes (but the dunes at glamis are better! :headbang: )

  12. I have seen the flashing lights that sit atop toyhaulers in the dunes.. i have also seen lighted flagpoles too. it all depends on how imaginative you want to get. i have seen people hang christmas lights to their flagpole, fire up their genny, and go riding for a few hours

i have also seen a giant blow up santa that was see through plastic with lights inside of it on top of a toyhauler.

the coolest thing i have seen was a type of searchlight that lights up the night sky like a lazerbean that rotates, kinda like the big movie preview ones, on a toyhauler. i could see that one for miles

  13. maybe if the fees that we all are paying each weekend (season) were going to the right place they could maybe have a bit more law enforcement to help keep these people in line!! :tres hermanos_rock_smiley:

yeah, but we, as a group, could be much more effective. kind of self policing, if you will. the mone ywe pay to get into dumont is alrready stretched pretty thin. I didn't see a ranger THE ENTIRE TIME i was there, from wed-sun

at pismo, if i see someone riding 2 up, or without a helmet, I go up and say something to them. if they choose to be idiots, and tell me off and not do anything about it, i just mention that the next time, swhen it is a ranger, it will be expensive. usually, if there are kids around, i point out that the adults are NOT being good role models by their behavior, and oculd end up injuring thier own children

common sense??? what the :tres hermanos_rock_smiley: is that?

  14. One thing that I saw that freaked me out while there last weekend was the families riding around in rhinos, IN THE DUNES, WITHOUT HELMETS

I MEAN one rhino i saw had 5 or 6 kids hanging out the back, one guy drivin, over by superbowl, attacking transitions

at pismo, I would have said something, butnot comfortable enough yet at dumont

unfortunately, those kind of people give our sports a black eye. all it takes is one accident, the media sensationalizes it, and makes all of us look like idiots

what do you guys do when you see garbage like that?

  15. I am new to this forum, but have been to dumont a couple of times already. THAT PLACE ROCKS!!!

I was with 9 other DS650 enthusiasts from Wed through Superbowl Sun, and had a blast one of them was aceisback.

I got to see the new north pole mail box put up on Sat. (too bad i saw the old one too, what a bunch of a-holes to do something like that!!)

Being from Bakersfield, the closest place we have is Pismo beach. the weather is to die for, but the dunes are only 1500 acres, and they are kinda weeeeeeeeeeak.

I have come to dumont the last 2 superbowl sunday's, and hope to continue the tradition, maybe next year bring my family :D

you guys have a nice place, don't let the idiots ruin it!!!
