  3. It's almost time for another Buggy Roundup! Buggy Roundup 14 is happening December 10–13, 2026, at Dumont Dunes! For those who are new to Buggy Roundup, this is our annual sandrail and sandcar dune trip (NOT a side-by-side roundup). It's all about getting together with fellow buggy owners for some great dune runs, campfires, and good times. If you are still confused, see the illustration below. What started as a small group of buggy owners getting together has become an annual December tradition. It's always good to see the familiar faces, catch up with friends we don't see often enough, and spend a few days running the dunes together. What's Happening This Year? As always, the main focus is getting out and driving our sandcars! We'll be doing group dune runs throughout the weekend, with plenty of time to hang out at camp, catch up with old friends, and check out everyone's cars. Group Dune Runs: We'll be heading out for runs throughout the weekend. Times and routes will be figured out at camp. Sandcars & Coffee: Saturday morning is a good time to grab some coffee, walk around, check out the buggies, and talk cars. Nightly Campfires: We'll have firewood for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Come hang out! Group Photo: We'll try to get everyone and their sandcars together for a group photo at some point during the weekend. Other Fun: We may bring back nighttime bourbon and s'mores, sandcar weigh-ins, and who knows what else. We'll figure that stuff out as we get closer! Nothing is set in stone, and that's part of what makes Buggy Roundup fun. There isn't a strict itinerary. We just get together, run the dunes, and figure things out as we go. When & Where December 10–13, 2026 Dumont Dunes We'll be camping across from bathroom 10, off to the right of the entrance road. Staying in Touch Since our camp tends to get pretty spread out, we're planning to set up optional text alerts this year for dune runs, group photos, and other announcements. We'll post details on how to sign up as we get closer. You can also keep up with plans and discussion on the DDR Forum and in the Buggy Roundup Facebook Group. Check the BRU14 Calendar Listing for trip information and updates. Same Trip, Same Good Times Buggy Roundup has never been about putting on a big event or drawing a huge crowd. It's just a bunch of friends getting together every December to dune and hang out. If you've been coming for years, you know the drill. If you're new to the group, you're welcome to hang out too. Just keep in mind this is a laid-back sandcar trip, not a big organized event or party. There's no registration or special Buggy Roundup fee. Standard Dumont Dunes access requirements still apply. Buggy Roundup 14 Gear We've added some Buggy Roundup 14 shirts, hats, and other stuff to the DDR Store for anyone who wants something from this year's trip. Check out the collection if you're interested, and order early if you want it before December. Shop Buggy Roundup – DDR Gear Basic Rules & Etiquette Buggy Roundup is about duning, hanging out with friends, and having a good time. Just a few things to keep in mind: 1) **Don't Be a D*ck** We've never had any problems at Buggy Roundup, so let's keep it that way. No drama, attitudes, or BS. We're all here to have a good time. Cause problems and you'll be asked to leave. 2) Keep the Music Down Enjoy your music, but keep it at a reasonable volume within your own camp. With everyone camped close together, nobody wants to hear someone else's playlist all night. 3) Drive Safe No reckless driving in or around camp or aggressive passing on dune runs. Give everyone plenty of room. If you're going to pass, do it safely with plenty of space. No surprises. 4) Sandcars Only for Group Photos & Sandcars & Coffee Buggy Roundup is all about sandcars! Everyone is welcome to camp and hang out, regardless of what they drive. Other machines can join dune runs, but buggies line up first. Keep in mind that different types of machines don't always mix well on group runs. We're all there to enjoy the dunes and have a good weekend. Let's keep it fun and safe for everyone! Here's a Visual Aid. 😂 Safety & Personal Responsibility Buggy Roundup is an informal gathering of friends who enjoy duning together, not an organized or sanctioned event. Duning is inherently dangerous and involves the risk of serious injury, death, and property damage. Everyone participates voluntarily and at their own risk. Each driver is responsible for their own decisions, vehicle, passengers, safety equipment, and ability to navigate the dunes safely. Never feel pressured to follow another driver or attempt something beyond your abilities. Dumont Dune Riders, its administrators, and those helping coordinate the trip are not responsible for accidents, injuries, deaths, vehicle damage, or other losses that may occur during the weekend or while participating in group dune runs.

  7. Before Thanksgiving gets here, there’s another weekend worth putting on your dune calendar! Veterans Day falls on Wednesday, November 11 this year, but Friends of Dumont Dunes’ annual Veterans Day Flag Run is scheduled for Saturday, November 14. Make a weekend of it November 13–15, enjoy some dune runs, and take a little time to honor those who have served. A More Laid-Back Weekend Veterans Weekend typically has more of an off-weekend feel at Dumont. Think smaller crowds, room to spread out at camp, and evenings around the fire with friends. If you enjoy a quieter trip between the big Halloween and Thanksgiving weekends, this is a good one to keep in mind. Friends of Dumont Dunes Flag Run Bring your American flags and show your support for our veterans! The flag run traditionally gathers at Vendor Row before heading to Veterans Hill, near the swingset, for a flag-raising ceremony. Date: Saturday, November 14, 2026 Meeting time: To be announced! Watch for the final meeting time and any updated ride details from Friends of Dumont Dunes as the weekend gets closer. No Holiday Pass Required Although we call it Veterans Weekend, November 13–15 is not a designated holiday pass period at Dumont. A regular $30 non-holiday weekly pass or a valid Dumont season pass covers the weekend. An entrance pass is still required. View Dumont pass information and purchasing options Pack your flags, bring some firewood, and enjoy a relaxed weekend in the sand. To all our veterans, thank you for your service!
  8. Found some more info on the rollover at comp Friday night. The first listed report was at 12:29 AM Saturday. At 12:40 AM, a caller reported one person unconscious inside the vehicle and another who had been ejected and was also unconscious. Sounds like that explains the reports of two people involved, but it doesn’t say both died. Still haven’t found anything confirming the other person’s condition or the comments about helmets and seat belts. Very sad deal! Thoughts go out to their family and friends. If anyone hears a confirmed update, post it up. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1LEhVWcxfJ/
  9. Halloween is behind us, and Thanksgiving weekend is next! November 26–29, 2026 means another long weekend of dune runs, campfires, turkey dinners, and hanging out with friends and family at Dumont. Thanksgiving still draws a decent crowd, but it usually isn’t quite as crazy as Halloween. The weekend has more of a family atmosphere, with duners spending their days riding together and their evenings sharing food and hanging out around the campfire. Whether you’re heading out early for the whole week or squeezing in a few days, there’s something pretty hard to beat about Thanksgiving dinner at camp after a day in the sand. For many families, cooking Thanksgiving dinner at Dumont is part of the tradition. From deep-fried turkeys to everyone bringing a favorite side dish, camps find plenty of ways to put together a full feast out in the desert. It’s a good excuse to slow down, enjoy camp, and spend a little extra time with your people. Waterpumpers: Dune Masters & Sandpipers The waterpumpers are a longtime Thanksgiving tradition at Dumont. These V8-powered buggies bring a little old-school dune history to the weekend, with drag racing and hill climbs that are always worth checking out. Hill Climbs: Slowest to the Top Wins The hill climbs aren’t about who can get to the top the fastest: it’s just the opposite! The goal is to be the last one to reach the top without stopping. On the steep side of Comp Hill, that’s harder than it sounds. Go too slowly and the paddle tires dig in, sinking the buggy into the sand. Give it too much throttle and you climb faster than you want to. It takes careful throttle control and a well-built machine with the right combination of power, gearing, and traction to keep crawling uphill while outlasting the other racers. More than anything, the waterpumper tradition is about nostalgia. It’s a connection to the early days of Dumont, when these V8-powered buggies helped shape the dune scene. Seeing them line up again brings back memories for longtime duners and gives newer generations a look at a tradition that families have kept going for decades. Friday & Saturday Schedule FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 27 10 a.m. Drag Races Back stretch of Sand Highway heading toward the North Pole. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 28 10 a.m. Hill Climbs Steep, left side of Comp Hill. Racing is open to club members only, but everyone is welcome to come watch! Getting Ready for the Trip Make sure your entrance pass includes holidays, get the toys ready, and leave room for the turkey! Before heading out, check DDR’s weather page and nearby services directory for help planning your trip. If you’re making a longer stay out of it, plan ahead for fuel, water, propane, and everything you’ll need for Thanksgiving dinner. Bring warm layers for evenings at camp, and browse our Vendor Row directory for food, parts, and supplies. Take care of the dunes, pack out your trash, and keep an eye out for each other during the busy weekend. Who’s spending Thanksgiving in the sand? Share your plans in the comments, and post your photos and trip reports when you get back!
  10. Halloween weekend 2026 is a wrap! Looks like it was another packed weekend at Dumont. From the photos and videos I've seen, there were some awesome costumes, lots of trick-or-treating, and the usual Halloween craziness. So how was it out there? How were the dunes, crowds, and weather? Any good stories from the weekend? Post up your pics, videos, and trip reports! Here's a few that were posted to our social media channels. Such great costumes! 😄🤟
  11. Anyone hear any more about the rollover at comp Friday night? From what I’ve read, it sounds like one person died, possibly two, but I haven’t seen anything official. Some of the comments say they weren’t wearing helmets or seat belts. No idea if that’s accurate. The Instagram video shows the aftermath, but it’s hard to tell much from it. Here are the posts I’m referring to: Facebook discussion Instagram video Sad deal. If anyone has a confirmed update, post it up.
