So the real question is , What exactly are we arguing for? Is it the fact that we just don't like being told that a helmet is required in a SXS or is it the law itself and the fact that the state of California requested no input from the users and OHV advocates? I didn't hear all this when a helmet was required on a 4 wheeler or a Motorcycle so I am just curious. Me personally I don't like being told what I can and can not do, but I like to drive my RZR so I will go along with it and hope that I never have a wreck to see if the law is justified.
Actually you don't go along with it Terry, you actully knowingly wear an illegal helmet......you are the REBEL, and not the Sheep....
-
I thought we were actually having a semi intelligent conversation about the ACTUAL law itself, and not "what we think they meant". Like Neal, I like to disect a law and understand it. But oh well, we as Americans have learned to become little sheep,SHUT UP, and lay down for the government. There, I put a smiley on it to make it less whatever.

Yep....and if you put a set of handlebars instead of a steering wheel your ok as well....pretty easy to prove that one
-
So they can write a ticket on a sandrail too then. Saying u can't prove the cc's
-
I not worried about what's been beaten to death, I just want to know what the real law is? From my understanding of the English language, the way it's written leans toward current cc's. So, if your engine is built to 1001cc you are legal to not wear a helmet. Would I challenge it, probably not. Do I want to know the law as it's written, of course!!!

(d) has a sub-category of 1. and 2., but (e) is it's own statement.
And the laws say "Recreational off-highway vehicle" means a motor vehicle
meeting all of the following criteria:"Wish we had a lawyer on the forum to explain this....LOL
-
What has Polaris rated the RZR 170 at MPH? If under 30, then those don't require helmets?
-
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Section 500 is added to the Vehicle Code, to read:
500. "Recreational off-highway vehicle" means a motor vehicle

(a) Designed by the manufacturer for operation primarily off of
the highway.
(b) Has a steering wheel for steering control.
© Has nonstraddle seating provided by the manufacturer for the
operator and all passengers.
(d) (1) Has a maximum speed capability of greater than 30 miles
per hour.
(2) A vehicle designed by the manufacturer with a maximum speed

has a maximum speed capability of greater than 30 miles per hour
satisfies the criteria set forth in this subdivision.

SEC. 2. Section 38012 of the Vehicle Code is amended to read:

subdivision (a) of Section 38010.
(b) As used in this division, "off-highway motor vehicle"

SEC. 3. Chapter 8 (commencing with Section 38600) is added to
Division 16.5 of the Vehicle Code, to read:It says has to have all....and the statement about 1000cc isn't prefaced with "by the manufacturer" in the same sentence???
-
Soooooooo......back to the original question....lol. Does anyone have the verbage on the 1000cc law?
-
So, does the law just state 1000cc or less needs to wear a helmet? So, I can show them proof that I did a big bore kit (receipt from shop) and made my SxS 1050cc and be good to go with no helmet?
-

I like the 4 wheel drive and 4 year warranty. My SCU, Funco or DeJong sandcars didn't have that option....LOL. And it would have been nice when I had to rebuild my Mendeola tranny for $3800. But like Steve said, they are def a money pit when upgrading.
