  1. For any good that it might do here is my submission to the Calif Desert BLM Supervisors.

Can someone please help me to understand all of the recent changes in how Dumont Dunes is being

    operated.

I understand there is a new manager in the Barstow office. Is she being directed in a direction that

should lower the usage and increase all of the complaints I am hearing and seeing in the last two

    seasons.

It would appear to me that the increase of revenue from users would be a benefit yet changes have been made that discourage that.

all I hear is the way the LEO's are being directed. The total lack of coverage on off weekends and a

heavy hand when they are there.

I just don't understand the direction it is going.

Can some please tell me what is going on and why?

    Respectfully,

    Pat XXXXXXX Henderson Nevada

  2. It's like talking to a wall Pat. We tell her the issues, She gives us assurances and then does exactly whast she wants and justifies it by being in the guidlines? I would like to see this know all see all book! I am quickly running out of patience and I don't think there will be a clean up this year. There lack of support is putting the doom on it.

OK, time to communicate with the supervisory chain of command. Who is her direct boss? Who is that

persons direct boss and so on. If it's the only way to get the word out then lets do it!

  3. Terry, I hope to Gawd that you don't quit ! At least you have an opportunity to talk to her directly in the meetings and attempt to bring her back into reality and away from the "Book" that tells her every decision to make. In time, things just might change for the better.

In todays governmental agency structure there is room for improvement and a change at the "Top" is eminent. It may be time to start contacting our representatives that may interested in starting to protect our rights and investigate sub par management in their respective responsibilities.

Hang in there Bud we need your help!

  4. Someone got stopped in my camp when pulling In friday night about 9 pm. They did the whole flash light thing and asked questions. What happen to probably cause.

It seems to me that they are not getting money from tickets cause many at dumont follow the rules compared to glamis. So they are making stuff up. I also have been going since a kid and had a much better time with zero fee and if someone got hurt yes you had to get a helicopter from vegas I believe but we had the number on hand and knew it would be expensive.

Like everything else in society, this revolves around money.

    :2cents::stirthepot:

You never said why the person got checked pulling into your camp. Was it someone that just got there or someone in a toy that was already there? At the prices of the fines do you really think it about money? Are there that many tickets even given out unless it's a DUI or weapons or unsafe operation or something of that nature. Also were these officers BLM or San Bernardino Sheriffs Deputies. With some level of experience working alongside law enforcement...believe me there are an awful lot of possibilities for finding "probable cause" for a stop. Even more when your on Federal or State Land, if I'm not mistaken. The system is nowhere near perfect or will it ever be for some people but the alternatives might not be better.

For example I saw a story on the New York City Police Commissioner this morning and the police in New York can stop anyone they want to and frisk them. Statistics: Before this policy they had 3000 murders a year in the city. This year it will be under 400.

  5. I think I need a trip Dumont for this event. Probably a Day Trip but I plan on Making it. The rail hasn't seen much action lately and I have a ton of fuel left from Thanksgiving. Packing my Long Johns and ball warmers for this trip! Heading to Calif. later that week for a meeting with the owner of Idaho Dunes and a visit with Rocket and Booster. A cool weeks plan!!!

Old guys have to protect their valuable assets. You never know when they might be needed.....sigh.....not likely!

  6. I've camped out there for different reasons. The access to the mine is very interesting. The little dunes can be fun to ride on in a side by side or quad. There are areas that it can be easy to get stuck if your not watching where you are going....experience speaks! On busy weekends it can get crowded but all in all it can be fun.

  7. Coming out this morning they were blading the road. It was decent but earlier in the week it sucked since they took all the type two Terry talked about and put most of their time by the fee station and up the hill. They had graded all the type two to the edge of the road and even plugged up the drainage so the road was puddled up and nasty. At some point they might consider those of us that go out early and grade it before the big weekend. Oh wait, that will never happen. BLM has had it's problems and that is all I will say since Roxy left and Larry retired. Hopefully time will improve the situation at Dumont. To those that are going out for T Day be aware that the sand it really torn up. It's wet and I had fits getting around because of the wet sand and the ruts.

Still better than staying home though. Enjoy it folks.

Did enjoy seeing the water pumpers out there for their annual trip. The didn't get their permit for the drags but did get it for the hill climbs by Comp Hill. Camp had over 50 units in it as of today by the entrance to the corridor.

We did have rain Thur, Friday and Saturday but it cleared up on Sun and Mon.

I have to wonder how much revenue the BLM is losing by not having a ranger check passes since we saw a lot of people coming in last week and leaving before the rangers show up on Wed or Thur. OH Well so much for concerns for getting money to put back into the Dunes.

Good Luck Terry, I feel your pain!

  8. I am in the process right now, it will state "2013 assembled vehicle" I took my car down to PD and they filled out the OHV paperwork that I printed off of the DMV website to verify that there was no VIN, then I had to take it down to DMV inspection station on American pacific and they gave me 2 aluminum rivets that I am supposed to use to put on the new vin tag that the Nevada DMV provides. I talked with the owner of the company that built my car and he said that is how they do it in Cali also, otherwise the builders have a bunch of hoops to jump through and the cost would need to be passed on to the customers.

I did this also but the rivets were not needed. The vin sticker came to me and had adhesive on it so just stuck it on Rail. Not metal at all.
