  1. I think Lojack is a great idea but runs around $500 per unit. I can't really get into the specifics of what a Lojack unit entails, but I can tell you that yes probably 99% of all Lojack equiped vehicles are recovered within a very short time of activation. The process requires that your vehicle be entered into the stolen vehicle system by your local LE agency. once that is done, the Lojack signal is tracked. unfortunately if somebody is familiar with Lojack, like anything else they can disable it, but it is not easy.

I personally use a cable system and a dog nearby

  2. Well here goes my :headbang1: but it seems to me that the root of the issue is that alot of people feel like we are being double taxed and not seeing awhole lot of results from our fees. After all $34,000+ for road maintenance :driver: come on. For many of us who have been going to Dumont for several years (me personally 20 years now) the road is absolutely horrible for $34,000 worth of tractor work compared to what it has been in the past. Yes I remember the days of needing 4wd to get into the dunes, but I knew that I wasn't paying to drive down an unmaintained road so I didn't expect anything. I do agree that medical /police services are needed, but they only provide those services on major weekends and isn't that what we already pay taxes for anyways? Ok so call it extraordinary services, then charge per weekend that they are out there, not for the whole year. If I choose to go on off weekends when crowds are low why am I paying for police and medical personel that are going to respond from baker anyways ?

  3. :shout: YOU just got a lucky start, four times in a row :dunno: and for having new baby, yep on sleep :laughoff::laughing: I'm so ready for pres-day weekend. Only like 30 days but i'm not counting. You need to get your ltr-450 ready, theirs going to be a boilt on bike racing, going on that weekend :offtopic:

Does a bolt in 1000cc qualify ? :offtopic:

  4. Wife and I are thinking of doing a day trip up Sperry Wash at Dumont and was wondering if we can park by the gate before going across the stream? I have not been out for a while and don't remember if there is a no parking sign there? Don't want to spend the $30 to park on sand and drive to the wash.

I completely agree. I can't see spending $30 for a single day trip, I think it's pretty ridiculous. I would guess that as long as you haven't passed the fee required signs then you wouldn't be required to pay. According to BLM's map it doesn't even look like the wash is included in their area prescribed as "Dumont Dunes".....http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/barstow/dumont.html

  5. Good, get rid of that shopping mall in the most congested area. Glad to see this change.

I'd prefer to see them gone all together. I just liked the Dumont of 15-20 years ago before it became commercialized and started drawing in all of the knuckleheads.

  6. Not that I advocate speeding or reckless driving, but it is a proven fact that the faster you drive down a washboard road the smoother it is. Rather that driving through the bumps you can travel across the tops by increasing speed. Its even been proved on mythbusters.

  8. My bike was the red one. I was out at the hill a bunch trying to put some time on the bike. I think the bike you saw was blue/white/black ? It had a hyabusa with a turbo at 243HP. That thing was ultra fast. He was on radar up the hill at 83mph :dunno: . I only hit 68mph :worthless_without_pics: with about 120HP

  9. Anybody know what happened to the motorcycle rider on top of comp hill Saturday around noon? His bike had broken handle bars and looked like he possibly had a compound femur fracture? Somebody ended up driving their f-350 up there to load him up and bring him down.
