  1. Cole, i would take the engine apart and check the cylinders, how long was the car sitting before sold ? maybe rust in cylinders has caused pitting witch would make you get poor seal from rings. Did you figure out where its leaking from yet ? full seal kit is about 50 bucks if I remember correctly for a VW.

  2. Not familiar with what frequencies are ran with "race" radios, though you have to pick if you want to either use CB "citizens band" or UHF. You will get alot more range with UHF plus access to alot more frequencies. Both Motorola and ICOM make very good radios including Kenwood, its what brand you like. Personally i prefer ICOM, you get the same quality from a motorola but cheaper. In a buggy, or hauler, i would go with a 50 wt base station. You will need to make sure you have the correct power and most importantly, correct antena. To carry around on a quad a handheld will work fine depending on obstructions and terrain. The most you can get out of a hand held would be 5 watts.

  4. HEY FIRST TIME ON SITE FIRST TIME GOING TO DUMONT. MY SON AND I ARE COMING OUT TO CA NOV 20-NOV 29 CAN ANYBODY TELL ME THE BEST PLACE TO CAMP , OR ANY INFO I MIGHT NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DUMONT. DO THEY CHECK EVERY QUAD TO SEE IF YOU HAVE A SPARK ARESTER?

I have always camped next to Bathroom 6 next to the finger dune, pretty easy to access the dunes from camp in that location plus if you have small kids, they can play around on the side of the finger dunes next to camp. It is California law that your ATV should have a spark arrestor, though ive ridden out there all the time without one, but always carry it just in case so i can put it in. Remember to buy your pass either from one of the vendors on the site, or you can stop at the Valero gas station in Baker and pick one up there. BRING YOUR OWN TOILET PAPER also for the bathrooms, to many times ive seen some dumb :beercheers: urinate all over the rolls. Also, most importantly, BE SAFE and what ever trash you bring out , pack it out and throw it away at home. See ya in the dunes :drunks: :peeps: :headspin:

  5. My wife and I laugh every time we see a special on the news about how to save money. All the tips that are being offered my wife and I have been doing for years, here are some that have not been mentioned:

Buy all your kids "play" clothes at the thrift store, they are gona tear it, stain it or ruin it some how any way

Stop watering all your grass and plants, replace your sprinklers and really set your timers to water only when necessary

Switch all your light bulbs to CFL's or flourecents, plus install motion detectors in bathrooms so the lights dont stay on.

DONT LEAVE THE COMPUTER ON ALL DAY!!!

Have the kids watch only ONE tv instead of all of them on at teh same time in the house

Coupons, coupons, coupons... snip and save and shop thrifty, store brands are just as good as regular.

Instead of making mulitiple trips in the week to different places, plan ahead and try to do them all at one time on one day.

Re look at your plans with utilities and such, try to get a cheaper cell phone plan, bundle package with tv and internet, etc...

Dont use toilet paper, just wipe and wash your hands.... J/K!!!

Family entertainment, try to see what is local and most important FREE such as community events or concerts.

    Ill think of more, but most importantly what we have done as every one has mentioned;

NO MORE CREDIT CARDS!!!!!!!!! STRAIT CASH MONEY!! :beercheers:

  6. Where do you leave from? I'll be going to Dumont and never been riding in the sand. I would like to meet up with people to show me where its safe to ride and what to watch out for lol..

For the ones more to south of the high desert, my brother will meet with peeps in Ontario and drive up to my house in apple valley, we load up here and go. Or you can just drive up with your own car and we can meet up somewhere and all convoy there, no biggie, always good to have extra peeps!!!

    :drunks: :sleeping::yawn:

  7. i wish i was out there but need to save some cash for halloween & thanksgiving :thumb: ...

Jr, arent you in San Bernardino ? Let me know, me and muh bro always look for more peeps to go with, I have a trailer that can haul 2 quads 2 more in the bed. We can all share gas up there. Let me know....

  8. Someone stole my wife's key from a Dr. office and the local dealer wants $150 for a new one, any place I can get a better price on one?

Your car should have came with 3 new keys if you bought it new. If you only got one you need to consider teh following with Chrysler:

Does the SUV have the key sentry system? where it reads the chip in the key in order for it to start ? If it does, and you dont have two other spare keys then your kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place and would need to go to the dealer.

  9. Two teens accused of stealing five motorcycles from the Corona area

    Lori Consalvo, Staff Writer

    Created: 09/07/2009 07:26:54 PM PDT

Five stolen motorcycles were recovered and returned to their owners Sunday and two juveniles were arrested after sheriff's deputies conducted a patrol near the Willow Apartments in Hesperia.

San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies with the Hesperia station were working as a gang unit about 1:15 p.m. at Second Avenue and Willow Street when they saw a teenager riding a dirt bike without a helmet, which is a violation in the city, according to a sheriff's news release.

Sheriff's deputies stopped the driver and discovered he was a 15-year-old Corona resident who was riding a stolen bike.

After investigating, they found a second teenager, 14, from the Corona area who had two more stolen motorcycles, according to the news release.

Sheriff's deputies obtained a search warrant for the teen's homes in Corona where they found two more motorcycles, making the total five stolen bikes from two different people in the Corona area.

The motorcycles, which were valued at more than $10,000, were returned to the victims and the teenagers were booked at the High Desert Juvenile Detention Center, according to the news release.

  10. Some of you may have seen our new Vendor Row Directory link on the homepage. http://www.dumontduneriders.com/vendor-row.html

If you or someone you know are a vendor at Dumont and would like to be listed in the directory FREE OF CHARGE, please e-mail me your company information to pete@dumontduneriders.com and we will get it up asap.

We've put this directory together for the duners but also to show our support for the vendors who continue to go out to Dumont year after year. They make our weekend a much better experience and help us out a ton. :DDRrocks:

Pete, maybe you can whip up an arial map showing their location ? Last time I passed smoking als about 4 times until i finally found them and missed out on some fabolous grub. Just and idea, kind alike the directories at malls.

  11. I hope my kids are gaining some good memories of our duning trips.

    Hope they always dune it.

Do ya still do cool stuff with your dad?

My mom passed away long ago but,

I'm lucky enough that my dad is still living.

One of a dwindling core of WW 2 veterans left.

He flew bombers during WW2 and never talked about it.

All we knew was their was this bad, horrific incident he and his crew encountered, and that was that.

But that's another thread. Perhaps for Military.com.

Music was always a part of our home & neighborhood growing up.

One of the greatest jazz drummers, Jack Sperling was a next door neighbor.

Jack Sperling - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dad made sure the homes sound system was state-of-the-art, that's an old school term (like High Fidelity), meaning the best technology available.

We even had Blaupunkts way before BMW sold cars here.

The FM stations back then were usually some stoner who had a surplus military FM transmitter in his living room and he spun his Jazz collection.

Our houses rocked or jived would be more like it on that section of the block.

I booked a flight and rooms and tickets to take my dad to the grand opening of the Stage Door Canteen at the National WW2 museum in New Orleans Nov 6th.

The National WWII Museum's Stage Door Canteen

    Jack Sperling, our neighbor, played there, and the Hollywood Canteen during the war, and my dad saw him;

I asked my dad recently "Did you guys bomb the Germans to the beat of Glenn Miller like we listened to the Doors in Viet Nam?" No answer of course.

But dad did accept the trip to see the opening and the big expansion at the National WW 2 museum, and the Stage Door Canteen within.

    I'm looking forward to it.

Do ya still do cool stuff with your dad?

BUT OBCOURSE!!!!! These are the unforgetable memories you pass on to your siblings to be long remembered and never forgotten. Quality time with the family is very important and plays a big roll in the raising of a good family. This is a good example the kidos can use when you get old on how you would like to be treated and maybe one day they will do the same for you. To many times do I see elderly people abandoned by their families... sad thing but reality. I am very glad to hear you take interest and liking in spending quality time with your dad  Most important, you consider his likes while doing so.
