i had the same problem at one time.. and it was a combo of two things... the first prob was that the the Gen battery was bad.. and it has to be good to work or to "switch" the isolator .. and the second thing was the isolator itself went out.. when the generator is running the isolator switches over to the "house" batteries and then runs a trickle charge to the motor battery. but if the house battery is bad it will shut down the motor.. kinda like a car with a bad battery it will run till you put a load on it try putting a known good batt. in the place of house batt.

i have a Loaded open carry permit...but you have to have a guard card to go with it..and if you carry, you have to be on duty and in uniform with a patch on each arm and a badge.

the Puxing 888 VHF model hand held radio with a small headset with a PTT works great with dirt bikes quads etc. i have them for mine, and never had problems

I have one and really like it. I actually have one in the trailer too. Ive always thought that it would be good to use one of the channels as an emergency channel in case someone breaks down and needs to call back to camp. Maybe we could look at the channels and come up with an "unofficial emergency channel" for Dumont. Just a thought.

These radios can reach anywhere in Dumont with crystal clear reception.

its hard to make a channel an emergency channel just because each radio will be programmed differently with each its own frequency. Most people don't know what exact frequency they are on, just the generic channel number IE channel 1 or A,B C etc. but the different company's channel may be different from on to another unless you tell them what freq. you want put on each number.

I use a VHF radio which covers ALL the frequencies and i can program it to ANYONE's freq. can talk from the North pole to the ranger station with perfect clarity

Yes you can carry your weapon state wide with a CCW. Follow the rules and remember it is a CONCEALED WEAPON...

You would be shocked how many abuse their CCW's by carring the side arm under a tight T-Shirt or even getting a DUI while it is in the car..

As for carring a Unloaded Firearm on your side with a load mag on the other side of your belt... Thats a fast way to be arrested and have a Felony Weapons Charge on you. The ammo needs to be out of the mag and away from the gun. There has been a few people carry aroung guns on their hip around thow but they always get Extra Attention from Law Enforcement. Just get your CCW the right way and be safe with it. It is kind of a pain to carry around a gun all the time. I can carry any time, anywhere but choose not to most of the time. Once you tace the CCW class you get an idea what the Libilitys you are stepping in to..

How ever I feel EVERY Law Abiding Citizen should have a weapon and be able to carry to protect themselves and their familys. To many have given all to keep our 2nd Amendment rights...

it sais it has to be attached to the firearm...not on your hip. I called the local police today and they told me the same thing. BUT if you conceal the clip, you can get into trouble. it also has to be Open Carry.

It's your right to bear arms, exercise it as you please. I would also add, know the law and watch out for those 1000 foot school zones.

What county do you live in? Some are CCW friendly. Not LA county though. A California CCW is the best in the country bar none.

apparently, you can carry your firearm openly on your hip as long as it it unloaded. You are also allowed to carry your FULLY loaded clip on the other side of your hip and it is still legal. I looked up some info and you can find it at opencarry.org

I'm curious if other people are exercising their right to carry or are you opposed to it.

i was looking to at my radio and the only plugs i see on it is the mic and headphone jacks...

i can tell you that the radio can be programed with your PC using the same jacks...but im not sure about interfacing with an existing intercom...

but i would think that if your car has an input plug for an aux hook up ...then i would think it would work... if you plugged the headphone into your aux of the intercom and the PTT to the mic...i think it would work.

ya i own two of em... me and my father set them up in our sandrails . ... and we bought the kenwood KHS-7a headset with a PTT button. here's a link to show what the headset looks like, (note the plug)

the headset works perfect with face mask/dust-z. and goggles...they would work with ppl on dirt bikes and quads

they use the same frequencies as race radio... all you have to do is set it in the memory and it will cover ALL race radio freqs. so if your friends have radios and dune, you can hear and keep in touch....

we talked from the north pole back to camp near bathroom 3 and it sounded like they were sitting right next to us...

they are a lot of radio for the money...i would recommend getting them.

if you need the frequencies for the race radios i have them as well...

my inlaws are wanting to get handheld comm radios in case of an emergency, like earthquake, flood, sh*t like that

we live like 4 miles apart, but through neighborhoods, not flat land.

i have the solution for you...go on ebay and look up the puxing 888 hand held VHF radio. they are about 65.00 each..and transmit on the the VHF band in FM. they also have the capability to access repeaters that allow you to talk 80 plus miles. the radios come from hong kong and take about 3-4 weeks to get to you but they are well worth it. you can also hook up head sets and boom mics on them...they also cover all of the sand rail race radio frequencies

Ham Radio band or non Ham Band?

Looks like Pahrump has 4 in the Ham bands and there is one on top of Potosi Mountain. That one might have line of sight to Dumont.

I have an idea...

we all seem to have camera's with us during our trips out to the D.. and i'm sure people bring them out to comp on the big party nights...we should all take pics of the people around us..and if someone has to pick up their neighbors trash...post the pics of them and the trash that they left behind...

maybe if we put faces with the trash left behind people would stop leaving it....

Wow what a great weekend…started off kinda bad…got there on Wed. night and my fathers RV got stuck in the sand..bummer took a while to get it out but oh well..

Had some great rides in the dunes, one of our fellow campers got into an accident which put his car out of commission but no one was hurt…thank God.

I think this is a great idea that will help get the first responders there even quicker in an emergency. I thought it was standard practice to have a station/frequency set aside for emergency's, I know it was with the C.B's back home on all the fishing vessels but I'm not sure how the "race radios" are set up on these buggies......still a great idea!

if im not mistaken...the VHF band doesn't have a "emergency" channel except for marine radio's which is still VHF but on channel 16 or (156.800 Mgz) and CB is on 9..

wow...if it was the guy at my camp...i would think he would have stopped to at least check on people..and ya he had a kid with him probably around 16 -17 ish...

one thing that i can say is that he was not drinking ...first, it was too early in the morning and the kid was his son..this guy is not a real big drinker...he's kinda low key..

I talked to the BLM and the county cops at Dumont command post about them installing and monitoring the VHF race radio’s, they do not monitor the radio’s frequencies. But they said they would if “People of Dumont” can talk to the BLM and have it funded by or donated by the “People” the police department would have the radio installed in their command truck professionally, and would be part of the radio systems that they already have.

There is a few issues that I see that might arise, one the race radio’s that people buy usually have the frequencies already programmed into the radio, thus people only see it as channel 1,2,3 etc. the actual frequencies are usually not displayed. There would have to be a set frequency that ‘they monitor, like the coast guard monitors channel 16 (156.800 Mhz)

Second issue is that whatever frequency would be used will have to be programmed into everyone else’s radio. And be used only to contact the BLM or rescue crew. I’m not sure how hard it is to program these radio’s or even if people would want to do it at all.

Third, I know there was a discussion about these frequencies being on the “HAM” channels and you have to have a special license to be transmitting on them. I'm not sure what kind of problems if any would this create.

I think this would be a great idea and if brought to the BLM office with a plan and funds source, the people who need it would be rescued in much quicker time. No more flagging down, or traveling to the command post then back to the accident.

Hopefully someone could get something like this started, it would make Dumont a much safer place.
