  1. I'll second that... there's several shows that follow the "Cops" format. Or it could have been a documentary crew. So if anyone had a chance to ask them who they were with, pipe up. Or not, in the big picture it doesn't really matter anyway... they were there, pictures were taken, now it's over.

A couple observations from a TV news guy: One, there's some confusion over whether or not talent releases are required in those circumstances. The answer is, it depends on who's doing the taping. News crews don't need releases in public areas, and only need consent of property owner in private. The basic issue is whether or not the company doing the taping is using the images expressly for profit. If yes, then you have a right to be compensated for use of your likeness. BTW, minors in public places are like anybody else... public is public. No release or parental consent is required for news usage.

Two, about LEOs "dialing it up" for the camera: Sure, it happens all the time. But, based on my experience in similar situations... I'll be willing to bet your friend either had attitude or you got a cop having a bad day, probably a little bit of both. Sorry your friend got the short end of the stick, but if she hadn't been a minor with alcohol...

Third, the "LEO" Funco... FWIW the rangers at Glamis have two, they were donated by Funco and the ASA for rescue and enforcement purposes. As to whether or not tax dollars were used, it's really irrelevant. Tax dollars are used to buy trucks, and helicopters, and trailers.. all sorts of things they use at Dumont. If there's a demonstrable need for specialized equipment, I don't have a problem with my tax dollars being spent to buy it. I'm sure if you or someone you love was wadded up at the top of Comp, you'd want rescue to be able to reach you... and that POS standard travel car I saw on the way out Monday ain't gonna cut it. :slap:

BTW, I just wanted to add: Prez was my first trip to Dumont... Mikey likes it! :booty: We'll see everybody out there again...

Well said Dave. Good to see you at Dumont Dunes! Don't tell yer friends though, We don't want word getting out that it is better duning than brand G

  2. I heard your friend was 15 and uncoopertive

Prob. true, and he said he was almost arrested for telling the camera guy to eff-off. Okay so thats out in the open. Makes for a good story line.

Scott could you tell us what you guys were doing out there? Heard it was CourTv or an episode of cops. True?

  3. hey sand dollar next time I see u at the dunes Im gunna pull u over and talk u into giving me a ride! that way I wont have to think about getting a sand car anymore ill just do it! cause once i go for a ride im gunna want to dump the quads and get a car I have a feeling.........

ANYTIME Bro. I mean it! One of my favorite things to do is get peeps to "cross over" to the dark side!

  4. i think the finger's are part of the dunes and not part of the camp area. i could be wrong, but hey. and i like riding on them. they offer some unique jumping area's like step up's and long transfer lines. typically the people in the camp dont mind if i ask to ride on them for a little bit, but beyond that, the finger dunes are a good place to start a ride at imo. i dont have a problem with the bottom's on the fingers being tapes off, but at least leave room for 2 quads to safely pass on the top of the dune. i hate having to slide down, then climb back up when the cones could easily be moved 5ft back and everybody would be happy :D

I'm thinking I need to know what you ride/drive out there so that I can keep an eye out for you.

You obviously don't have kids yet and that's okay. But try to put yourself in a parent's shoes and think of the convenience those fingers offer to them while their kids are learning how to navigate the dunes.

For the record, I have roped off in the past a spot for my kiddies to ride, but I ALWAYS leave the crest open for peeps to ride out to the dunes on. This is just common courtesy.

The fingers are ALWAYS within the camp area and as such, should be driven on like you are on the flats; at VERY slow speeds.

You said it yourself that the fingers are a good place to start a ride. They are also a good place to learn HOW TO ride. ie. kids.

I often see little kids learning how to ride the dunes on the fingers. I respect that. I also use the fingers to get to the dunes, but I do it at 10mph until I am away from the "training hills".

Cut the kiddies some slack and Parents, keep the crests open for navigation to the dunes.

  5. Sheeesh!

Ok......let me generalize then. The film crew was in the Funco that was owned by some law enforcement agency.....that is paid for by the public. That is a waste of public funds.

The crew I saw was in a silver and blue flamed Funco. Looked pretty nice to be a LEO buggy. I didn't know they had any custom painted buggies....

  6. You guys are so funny, talkin' all this sh*t about, " Well I would have :dope: , Yeah! I would have :lol: , yeah! me too and then I would have :booty::beat: . :slap: Grow up! You guys wouldn't have done sh*t! You just like to talk big, bada$$, I'm a tuff guy crap. ALL OF YOU KNOW HOW TO HANDLE A SITUATION LIKE THIS. Talk to the owner, let it go and take your biznass someplace else.

    Well said:

    Hit 'em in the face

    OR

    Hit 'em in the pocketbook.

Which do you think would be more effective? Companies like this need to go away for good. Hit 'em in the face and if you got dough, you might just help finance another year's worth of staying in business.

this is just my  also....

  7. four pokes are for slow folks! 2 strokes rule !

"this weekend is for the 4-strokes. the drag bikes are usually the banshee 2-strokes"

Thats right drag bikes are the 2 strokes

    Dude,

    SandCars rule....

  8. ya i suppose thats a good point. they just treated her very badly. and the reason i say its because of the camera is because between all the people i was camped with, like 5 people got underage drinking tickets, but she was the only one when the camera happened to be around, and got handcuffed, then arrested and taken away in the back of the cop car to the ranger station. not only that but she was being screamed at, cursed at, and just made to look like an example in front of everybody at comp. but everybody else got a 75$ underage drinking ticket and a 'good day' from the rangers. thats why i was upset with the mentality that the camera gave the officers.

Sounds like she was in the wrong place at the wrong time......

Was this the little skirmish that took place Sat night on the left side of Comp (while facing it) at about 9pm? We were up top watching the crazy when a big deal was made of something down there.... Couple of quad cops then 2 or 3 units rolled up shortly after. I could see the camera lights....

  9. my issue was they were being overly abusive to her because that dumb @ss camera was there. cops are so fake. they do it all for show. and theres alot better things to do than bust a 17 year old girl for having a beer at dumont on presidents day weekend.

They rolled up on us and one of our crew's sandcar did not have his registration sticker on(he had it on his person, just not on the rail) and our experience was exactly the opposite, the cop was much nicer for the camera.

I would imagine that any portayal of leniency for underage drinking on camera would be suicide for the cop's career and a bad message to send out to others should this episode ever air.

    JMO..... :)

  10. I think cones portray a false sense of security. The duners see the cones and figure that it's safe to cruise along at a good clip OUTSIDE the cones because the kiddies are inside them. NOT TRUE.

We all just need to keep our genitalia in our trousers until we get away from the campgrounds and into the dunes.

I know, easier said than done...... IMPOSSIBLE for some....

  11. ya, they were taping my friend get arrested at comp hill on saturday night for underage drinking. they made her feel like a total peice of crap and i nearly got arrested for telling the camera guy to f- off when he pointed it at me. that stupid @ss bright light was so damn annoying.

Your friend was under age and drinking. If I were a cop, I would have AT LEAST made her feel like a piece of crap. She is lucky she didn't get hauled in. Like them or not, the law is the law and must be obeyed or changed by the majority.
