  1. Nick I have some you can borrow. I will be getting a trailer load before season starts so you can help me with it for payment how does that work for you? Let me know?

  2. Well to keep from thinking about sand I have been watching my youngest grandson play in the 12 year old little League state Championship series at Silverado field near the South Point Hotel.Went tonight to watch them beat Carson City for the second time and winning the State of Nevada Championship!! Onto San Bernardino for the western States Playoffs and if they are good enough to win there then it's off to Williamsburg, PA for the 12 yr. old World series. Good Luck Silverado!!

  3. If you live on the east side of town I would have you call Mario @ Performance plus in Henderson. He's on Boulder highway right next to Pickert's Radiator near the Skyline casino. Good guy and fair prices. 565-1190

  4. Thanks for the info.

Its great to hear that the budget is in good shape.

I have only been to Dumont a couple times but the road in having some work sounds good. ---Newby question--- why don't they pave any of it?

The pass change sounds good, but the one main thing i will hope for is a day pass, or something. I don't camp yet, and $30 for one day is pretty steep.

The fencing seems like it might be a little of a waste of money. People will just damage it, and it will require maintenance. hopefully it's well marked so people won't run into it.

Paving the road in the middle of nowhere would be so expensive that I don't think that we would ever be able to recoup the cost no matter how much we raised the fees. Also having a dirt road keeps some people out who not to sound elitist but who really don't belong there such as tourists who come in because the road is paved and find themselves on the flats, stuck in the dead of summer without proper provisions and no one around. It also keeps the "party/Rave" kids from coming out and causing problems.

I don't think you will ever see a "day" pass. The enforcement of such would be nearly impossible and will never happen IMHO.

The fencing will be marked with reflectors and it is to keep the people who either know the boundaries or the one's that don't from incursions into closed off lands. Dumont is pretty much surrounded by closed areas and anything we can do to keep our little spot of heaven from the envriomaniacs is a good thing. this fence location was changed by the sub group over where the BLM wanted it to start with and is a lot more the way we think it should be, instead od a long fence from the North Pole to the South Pole. We are trying to be ahead of the game in the battle.

    Hope that helps.

  5. I think you covered everything pretty well Pete except to say Thank You to all the members who took a day out of their life to attend the meeting. I know it does not seem like much but I can tell you BLM does pay attention to you guys and I would only ask that more of us show up and especially show up on a Saturday when we can have BLM's full time and attention just for Dumont.

Thanks Pete for the write up, I hate to type!

  6. Please let them know that you got the info from me for this purchase. By purchasing a $5.00 card you get a 25% discount on Sat. August 27th at your local Macy's. The $5.00 donation goes directly to the Trauma Intervention Program for which I volunteer for. It's a great cause and a great deal for you. I would appreciate your support.

    Thanks,

  7. Well let's see. I need to get the car out and do a little maint. The rzr is pretty much ready to go, the motorhome needs to go to johnny Walkers for a generator problem and i don't want to do any of it cause it's to damm hot! Otherwise I keep somewhat busy with my volunteer activities. http://www.tipoflasvegas.org/indexjs.php if you want to join us we will be having a class in Sept. for new volunteers and it is a very fulfilling thing we do.

I am figuring I can hold out until mid Sept for my sand fix @ Coral Pink as I haven't been there in about 7 years and we want to go back in cooler weather. For now I hanging in the pool, running errands and just keeping busy living the life of a house husband. Nice work if you can get it LOL :ynot:

    Capt

"Oriental from the waist down " Hmmm do we want to know how you know this to be true Capt.? Maybe it took so long to get your car done because other little things came up that you had to take care of?:blondie::shocked::dunno:

  9. Recently started a garage re-do and it looks like it's all set-up for a water softener. I'm not even sure I want/need one.

Would like to hear what differences and costs/benefits are to installing one. We do have particularly hard water. I'm tired of all the white deposits on and around anything related to water.

What size unit would I need? 3 bath home, clothes and dish washer, only 3 of us here though (me, wife, 3yr old daughter).

Is there a drawback to buying a used unit? Besides the obvious: too old, beat up, not maintained etc...

What brand should I look for if I decide to get one?

    Pro-installation required?

    Thanks peeps! DDRrocks.gif

If the garage has been plumbed for the water softener than it's an easy install for anyone used to connecting pipes usually via torch and flux. Home depot and lowes usually have the best prices and offer specials for installs. I would recommend one, I notice when my system is out of salt and notice the difference in the feel of the water. My recommendation is get one,

    you won't regret it

  10. Here is Randy's reply. He is all knowing of things Death Valley and has a web site and blog. His info should be helpful to you.

    Hi Terry,

Sorry I was away from the office yesterday and couldn't reply.

Although one could reach the Riggs site in 2WD, it would have to be something with high clearance. If he is going to rent a vehicle, I recommend it be an SUV. The biggest danger in driving would be a flat tire, but slow and easy would do it with reasonably good street or all terrain tires.

So, it is not the 4WD that is necessary, but the higher clearance that comes with a 4WD. I can't imagine any sedan having the necessary clearance.

I can tell him that the readers of my Death Valley Talk forum on DeathValley.com would love to read this story below. If he would repost this there, he may very well get a response from somebody willing to drive him out there.

Here is the link to the forum:

There are other discussion board for Death Valley that he could find via Google.

I hope this helps! Thanks for your email.

    Best,

    Randy

  11. Terry if you could follow the T&T roadbed just east of the North Pole south. You would first come to Valjean then Riggs. It's just north of Silver Lake. Unfortunately they cut the roadbed with even more wildness....yet again so you can't get there from Dumont anymore at least legally.

    Eli

I can forward this post to Randy Banis, he knows about a lot of stuff involving this area and he may know a back way in. I will let you know if he comes up with something
