Pismo Beach Hotel, Ripoff!

I have gone to Pismo for 4th of July with bigtruckdrmr and her family for the past 3 years. Always stayed at the Kon Tiki. Very nice hotel and her family is well known to the owners and they get some nice discounts. This year I call the first week of January to make a res'y at the Kon Tiki and they need a 4 night minimum at $200 a night this year. They always fill up for the 4th weekend. Eff That :beercheers:

So I look around and find a killer deal at the Pismo Beach Hotel right in downtown on the beach. $129 a night for 2 nights. I get a confirmation # and everything.

This weekend, I get a voicemail saying that I need to call Pismo Beach Hotel because they have raised the price to $190 a night. :?:

I just got a off the phone with a poor young fellow who had to deal with my wrath. It's not his fault, the kid just works there. He tells me that the hotel manager has raised the price for the new year and I still need to confirm the new price, even though I have a confirmation # with the $129 price. He even feels bad and tells me that it's stupid what they are doing.

So tomorow I will call the manager and yell, I mean, talk to her for a while and see what comes out of it. I will either come out staying there for the 3rd and 4th of July at $129 a night, OR, I am going to drive up there and firebomb the place, j/k.

There has to be some kind of law against this, I'm thinking false advertising of some kind.

Richard Cheese, what do you think? Your a pro at this stuff. :clown:

its sad that they can get away with doing that, but unfortunately....they can and they will continue to do so.

i dont think you quite understand the scope of impact the 4th of july holiday has on the central coast....its like an invasion...the area swells to 8x the population of the central coast....

not only is monitary rapage like you just described going to happen, its common place

its like booking a room @ new york new york for new years eve for 2012 for 99 dollars............and then getting the call 3 months prior....you know its gonna happen

BTW...even the motel 6 in pismo charges in the hundreds of dollar range per night during the summer, because they can.

Sorry to hear about your situation.......im sad to say its commonplace

I just had a thought today. I will tell them that I work for Van Wagner, one of the largest advertising firms in LA, not to mention the country. I can put up some billboards explaining the situation. Maybe that will change the situation.

also, a high percentage of patrons to the central coast are people from the central valley...i dont think signs in LA are going to have that much of an impact.

trust me, ive been in your situation......its just the way things are...

try the motel 6's in san luis obispo...about 5 miles up the 101....still get the cool ocean air, close to shell beach, san luis (some great places to eat there) and right up te 101 from PISSMO BIATCH!!!

ON EDIT

:shout: HEEEEY FUGG-O....motel 6 in pismo beach has rooms for 63.99 from july 1st all the way through july 10th...book that ish now MA FACKA!!

I second the motel 6 that cheese is talking about, i took his advice and it's like a 5 minute drive and to me they dont feel the effects of price gauging even when the holiday came around...They have plenty to eat, gas and the rooms were nice...

Yeah, we have stayed there before for a one night turnaround trip. I'm not too worried about where I can stay, I have an Aunt and Uncle and my grandparents both live in Santa Maria that love it when we come up and stay with them, so I always have somewhere to go.

It just makes me angry that businesses can get away with this crap and we the consumer get :porn: in the :dunno: and there is nothing we can do about it. They will probably sell the room to someone who is happy to pay what they want. I'm going to call the manager today and if I dont get at most $160 a night, I'm going to wait till the very last minute to cancel the room, I have up till 48 hours before check in to do so.

I wish there was a way to contact all the people that this is happening to so we can band together and all cancel our reservations at the same time to teach this hotel a lesson. I hate to sink down to someone else's level but if I don't, it's going to continue to happen. :shake:

i hate to say it sean, but are you aware that during the summer...hotels from ventura up to the bay area along the coast are always booked solid for weekends and holidays?

we had a rental house last summer for a week and there was a problem the day we were supposed to arrive, so we had to try to find a hotel room, and this was on a THURDAY night in the middle of June.

we couldnt find sh*t, from paso robles down to vandengerg...every freekin hotel sold out...and people calling left and right looking for rooms....all you would be doing is contributing to the problem by allowing the hotel to charge even more for the room due to the demand.

again...sorry to hear about your situation......next time youre heading over to the central coast, let me know man

I completely understand how busy it gets, that's why we have to call up 6 months in advance to the day to reserve rooms for this weekend.

I'm not gonna go and start sending letter bombs or anything, I really just want others to know about how this hotel feels about thier customers. I dont think this business practice should go without consequences. I probably will not make a dent in the flow of people to this particular hotel, but maybe word will get out and some will choose to not patronize this place.

Hey Cheese, do you still use Fed Ex? :dunno:

I finally talked to the manager of the Pismo Beach Hotel today, her name is Tamara for anyones reference. She actually called me, I guess calling everyday and leaving messages with everyone really does work, or maybe not as the end result shows.

I plead my case to her about raising my rate from $130 a night to $190 a night after I recived my confirmation number, which she happily recited back to me. She immediatly said there was nothing she could do about the new price, I expected this and came prepared to the argument. I kept a cool and collected calm during this entire conversation.

Me-"Tamara, I just don't agree with what your business is doing here, YOUR employees confirmed $129 a night on January 5th and gave me the number, that is a CONFIRMED price, meaning, it does not change."

Tamara-"I understand, but $129 a night was last year's rate, we decided to raise the rate in late January this year. would you like to cancel the room?" :rockwoot: She sounds very happy to cancel my resy.

Me-"No, I would like to keep my room as every other room in Pismo is booked up. Now can you please help me with this situation and keep me as a customer that the Kon Tiki lost. How can you CONFIRM a rate, then raise it 3 weeks later and tell me to accept it or get lost? Does that sound right to you? I understand that you want to raise your rates, but you raised them AFTER I CONFIRMED this price 3 weeks before you decided to do so."

Tamara-"Well unfornutally for you, this is a very busy weekend and we have a long list of people that are willing to take the room. Besides, YOU should have noticed something was up when our rate was cheaper than everyone else." :beercheers::beercheers::headbang1:

Now I'm thinkin in my head, how dare you, you are basically calling me an idiot for looking around for a deal on a room, finding one, then getting angry when you bait and switch me on the price. I want to punch this lady now, but my cooler head prevailed and I say...

Me-"So it's my fault for finding a deal on a room..." I get cutoff

Tamara-"The rate is now $190, would you like to cancel the room?"

Me-"No Tamara, I will keep my room for now, how long do I have to cancel my reservation?"

Tamara-"48 hours before your check-in time."

There was much more to the conversation, just back and forth :undecided: .So now I will keep my reservation right up untill the hour that I have to cancel. And I have 5 months to spread bad reviews on every single site that I can find that has this hotel listed.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL PEOPLE, DON'T REWARD THIER BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES.

Please let me know of any sites that you may know of where I can leave a review for this place. I have lot's of time on my hands.

:DDRrocks::ynot: :hungry: :beercheers:
