Best mods to a 400ex?

My girlfriend has a 400ex. I want to get a little more out of the motor. What would be the best mods to do? We mainly ride in the sand so I want to do something that will keep it reliable but still wake up the motor. Advice anyone?

intake, exhaust, rejet....

if you need more, a cam, higher compression piston, just don't go to high or you wil have to run race gas. under 10:1 should be good. anymore then this and you might as well just buy a new bike that comes with more power.

Thanks. What in your opinion is the best exhaust for the money? Like give you the most noticeable change?

i'm not really sure what's available for the 400ex. but HMF, Sparks, DMC, Dasa are ones that come to mind. just not sure who makes stuff for the 400ex. Loud is usually more flow = more power.
