Its California and in their eyes .. ITS LOADED...anywhere in cali the gun has to be seperate from the clip and so many movements away from the gun.. usually if you have the gun in the ab.. the clip needs to be in the trunk.. LAW!!! Sucks but true

it was my understanding you can have a fire arm with you out in the desert and on fed land but not consealed.

i think that dog was out there to make a point. the point being even if you have a med card for med pot it is not legal on fed land. i know 3 pep that got a ticket with a card in hand. (and i dont smoke) and buy the way i think it is way safer for the cops to be out there then were the real crime is that there unable to stop

Well I can attest to the fire arm thing @ Dumont... I am clean, Drug free and never been arrested. I was pullled over at comp on New Years night as someone with me had a can of beer they was showing out of the back window (didnt realize anyone had booze with us... should have been in an ice chest)..Yes you got it... pulled over ppl in the back seat taken out and questioned 1 hr later they get me out and As I am getting out of my truck I look down and there is my Colt 45 sitting in the door panel ( i had been broken into at my house and all my guns had been stolen.. I just got them back 1 week before) I thought OOPS ... I told the cop it was there and he took me to the rear of the truck and his partner pulled the gun out of my truck... As you guessed it had a clip in it as that is how I travel. He questioned me for a few minutes and told me how illegal it was to have it and he can take me to jail right now and I told him I understand and if that is what he needs to do thats fine. He also explained that the girl that had the drink is my responsibility and that I can get a ticket for her also... I explained I understood and that if he had to do that I was ok with that also..I explained why I carry a gun in Nevada and that I understood it was illegal in Cali to carry it that was and I proceeded to explain how I forgot I had it (it had been in police lock up for 2 years).

He followed me back to my trailer and looked at my CCW and my 6 blue cards.... Gave me a verbal warning and was told to be careful and to keep them in the trailer as the police could not enter my trailer with out a warrant...

Sheriff's were real rude at first but after they warmed up to me after the 2 hr ordeal they were actually nice... told me to have a good night and be safe and they left....

I didnt feel my rights were violated but the situation could have sank me with bills and court for sure.. so there is some GOOD LEOS out there and if they are respected will be cool.. Now that cant be Guaranteed lol

But again I am clean as clean gets and a little stop regardless of the reason could have ruined me for a while

• This is a very interesting thread….Controversy! I believe they are doing this for our SAFETY and to make a buck (which whatever, at least my tax dollars are going somewhere)! For the past few years people have complained about the economy going downhill & NO jobs – well….. Someone is finally putting our men & women to work. Hopefully this will open more careers for other men & women. I like to see my tax dollars being used for my own safety. I also noticed the Sheriffs had a laptop to possible check subjects for wants and warrants – How do I get that gig? I would sit on the back of a truck and status check possible wanted people. Then when I was done working, climb into my dune home or chill by the camp fire – Not a bad day at the office J
  Just info: If I am not mistaken most agencies that will be entering another agencies territory, they will notify each other; so I found it to be B.S. that BLM did not know the Sheriffs would be there. *just my opinion*
  Do I agree with searches at the gate? … I am on the fence with this; if the Officers and K9 can get rid of the drugs before someone gets “high” and causes a tragic accident – then GREAT, I am all for it. Now, if they wanted to randomly search my dune home or vehicle for no reason; I would probably have an attitude and request a “search warrant” (a search warrant normally has to be approved by a judge and that takes times). It seems very hypocritical of me because I try to play by the rules (bend them for little things – like a glass bottle), but then again; Get rid of the scum bags that ruin it for people like myself that go for a goodtime. Knowing your rights as a civilian will help protect you and the officer that is doing his job.
  On another note: I found it very entertaining watching from above the Ranger Station. Who drives a motorcycle to the dunes? (I’m still shaking my head and laughing) Yep, he was pulled over and checked. The people in question do frequent this forum...I think this kind of a sounding board to see if anyone else was paying attention at some degree... I am sure an email or 2 will be sent.

If you are that passionate about the issue then why aren't you taking the time to address your concerns with the appropriate agency instead of ranting on a forum which isn't going to achieve anything...you don't like something then do something about it or at least make an appropriate effort! You're wasting your time and effort posting it here, this isn't going to change anything...they might decide to be out there on every big weekend, then what are you going to do?? How far you willing to push them out there to stand up for what you think is right and wrong??

I can Honestly say... I have never been treated wrong by any LEO in Dumont or Glamis.. Idont have issue with you Either Jmanx directly... Yes I have a camp usually full of booze and you are more than welcome to it if you are thirsty.. Believe it or not we might end up good friends thats how I picked up Bob (from under his Motor home lol)..

Look, I don't mean to rattle any cages. I believe in education and certainly want the dunes to stay open for my kids. The dunes are my life!! I can't speak for the cop'rs that treated any of you unfairly at the gate. I wasn't there. But if it happened, DO something about it! KNOW your rights and file complaints. It's way better than just venting on this website. I can assure you, I will never treat anyone unfairly. I will work a 30hr shift to put the spouse in jail that beat up their other half while at the dunes because they were high as crap, comb the dunes for you kids stolen quad, and give the shirt off my back cuz you just rolled your buggy in the middle of the freezing night and the medical personel aren't there yet (those guys rock!!). And Bob, I know you don't need a shirt so I'll give you my sandals. Soon, Capt, Bob and me will be BFF's for life...

we were watching from jill and charlies camp above the pay station. i counted 15 leo's blm and sherifs, a dog, 9 vehicles and what looked like a radio or sat antenna behind a truck. it all seemed over the top like a border crossing. and a hugh waste of money. sunday at 5pm there wasnt a leo checking passes or even in dumont that i saw. and there were a lot of camps still there.

and jake you must have been the officer? (duner) i met at the north pole. sorry if i went off on you. you said you knew nothing about it. big brother harassing us on a tiny speck of sand in middle of nowhere not known for many problems of any kind just piss's me off.

Hi all, Came in Tuesday it was an awesome trip. Plenty of time with friends and family.Did not hear about the drug sniffing dogs. Sorry but good!!! Also really really good about Vin Checks. Ihave worked too hard. To have my stuff stolen. For those People whose stuff is stolen I hope they get it back…. Hunted house was awesome even better than last year.Thank you for sharing!!!!

Saw you truck many times at Comp. Looked pretty coool. Also looked like ALOT of work! Don't understand how your lights don't melt when you're brake'n, but never the less, looked good. I don't mind the VIN and drug checks either. Last thing I want is for a fellow duner to lose a family member because of an idiot who is high that crashed into them. If the po po stopped just one of those accidents from happening by jacking someones weed, then it was all worth it. BUT, in the same breath, no po po should ever go into your castle (trailer) w/o consent or probable cause (a lawful reason). Can't have those fellas over stepping their authority now can we....It's a lil thing called the 4th Amendment....

Just wait till you get there and they keep you detained for a couple hours as they look for something to fine you for and if they dont find anything and they start giving bogus tickets.. better yet when they start stopping every 3rd trailer and it takes 3 hrs to into Dumont then maybe you might change your mind....then again you have nothing to hide so its no bother.. but sooner or later it will end up a problem for everyone...

I didnt know that drugs where such a problem out there ... I guess if they crack down on those massive drug deliveries they are having now it will pay off later. If you notice that if they would actually chack the vins when they pulled people over that are acting like MORONS they would probably catch more stolen stuff then doing a surprise check at the entrance.. Last Time I looked around it was the dopers or the drunks causing the issues in the first place.. could be wrong.. I was wrong once before but even then I was mistaken

My second Time at Dumont for Halloween. Had a great time as expected. As always I need to thank the Fox family for taking me in to their camp. Tons of fun scaring the kids and duners in their Dunes haunt again. Got some good rides in and my first roll (in eight years with my rail) on our last ride.

Was shooting around a big bowl when the car started to drift. My left back tire went over the peak. That turned me sideways on the peak, my passenger side cought the razor and started the roll. went over 1.5 times. not too much damage. tires off the bead and my left front shock tower damaged. No injuries. Good times as Always.

IF I was him I would be on the phone with the BLM Field office and explain my rights were violated and would like to talk to someone in that department.. Your trailer is like your house.. SEARCH WARRANT IS NEEDED TO GET IN IT!!! unless you consent ...BS for sure

They told them in order to enter the dogs must clear every vehicle. Crazy but whatever, Hopefully it was worth it for them and they stopped something for "our" safety.

The extensive LEO effort at the entrance was a bit over the top. They told a friend in order to enter Dumont the dog must search the inside of the vehicle. $20 of firecrackers netted $275 Ticket. It was only the people buying passes at the entrance they told him, as myself and others with season passes were waived through. Great Weekend! Great Weather! Great Turnout!

There is lo lack of good people in Dumont.. glad you had fun regardless of issues

15 Leo's at the entrance at 1 point.. if thats how you like your dollars spent then I assume it ok... for what they wrote in tickets I would assume that it didnt even cover a percentage of there time.. I am sure I could have saved more dollars than was spent with a better turn of arrests .. standing in the middle of the desert waiting for all the criminals to show isnt my Idea of doing there job.. I dont have anything to hide either but tossing money out the window to put on a show is a little ridiculous ...

I think they might have had undercover people working comp hill Sat night. Two people came up and asked me if I had any pot. I told them I didn't smoke.

They said "come on. You have to know someone who has some" I again told them sorry, I don't smoke and neither do my friends. They badgered me a little more then moved on. It was weird.

Great weekend, even though I didnt have my car.. Fun with the Family and friends.. Wouldnt have it any other way. Not sure what was going on with the Sheriff office and BLM..Drug sniffing dogs ? guess we are so close to the border that this is an issue? They was searching about every 5 trailers or so... Checking Vins at the gate. cmon now.. I am sure this will have its own topic soon
