  1. With a name like American Sand Association.....you'd think they are concerned with all sand play areas in America. :watching:

I think many do. I did. Maybe that is one of the reasons they seem to have so many supporters.

FoDD? California Sand Association? Southwest Sand Association? Sand Fleet? Keeping your right to ride on earth and the rest of the planets. We can sign up the martians! I have it on good authority the moon is da poop to ride

Who is covering Stoddard Wells OHV area? Southwest Sand and OHV Association

    Lets think big!

  2. Was kinda my point. I believe the vendor was looking for a soultion to a problem and that's the first thing he found. I don't blame him, he see's a need and is looking to fill it :D Even so i wasn't to happy about it either.

It was not my goal to step on any toes here.

I honestly did not see any toes to step on. I have not seen FoDD out Dumont dunes and except for the annual cleanup I did not know anything about FoDD.

I was just trying to bring in some safety items to try and help with the many problems caused by the few who either don't know the rules or don't care.

The items I'm bringing from a business stand point are NOT in my businesses best interest in the short term. It will take time and our money to offer these items. In the long run I think it is a sound business decision as we will all benefit from a strong organization supporting Dumont keeping our riding areas open.

I wonder. Is it possible for the ASA and FoDD to work together on items that the ASA has already produced? The ASA has suppliers already in place that could make flags and other items that can be used for fund raising for the FoDD.

Safety Vids possibly could be changed to be from the ASA and or FoDD with minimal costs.

I don't see a problem with FoDD using my vending site under my licencing to promote the FoDD at Dumont. Having a rep from the FoDD that knows more than I what the FoDD is doing to promote the sport and keep the dunes open is welcome. We have the ability to help support you if you desire.

The ASA seems to have a successful model for getting business sponsors as well as individual sponsors.

Many companies also hold fund raisers for the ASA as well as raffles to raise money. I think if we are going to make FoDD a strong voice for us, FoDD should look at the ASA model starting with the web site.

The donation our business made to the FoDD should be made as a business sponsor and used to attract more business sponsors.

  3. Dont get me wrong....Im all for a volunteer patrol program and I see your point......the world isnt "Mayberry" anymore and there are folks who dont care....these same folks hav been arrested multiple times, could care less about the authority displayed by LEOs and would not hesitate to do one of the professionals harm let alone a volunteer! Ask Craig (SandBlasted) the kind off stuff he runs into daily......Im not far off here

Yea I don't see a problem, you want to do it anonymously or walk into the camp and say hey what gives? Then either way it's ok. The get even mentality can be a real problem and some will not want to take that risk. This is where the secret witness program came from.

We just need to try somehow to help get the word out that trashing the dunes and unsafe behavior is not socially acceptable.

Live and let live is my motto. I don’t see a big problem with comp, yea there are a few jerks, however when the pickup truck is sitting spraying sand, rock and gravel at everyone and like a poster said the ranger just sat there and watched, I would of gone to the ranger and said “you going to just sit there or are you going to do something?

No one is going to agree on everything but those of us who care about the sport as you do can come up with solutions and common ground. :laughoff:

With more and more of us willing to do more and to show our numbers doing the right thing, it will set an example for the rest. I still have faith in most people if you just explain it to them in a respectful manner the light will click on.

I love pete's idea of getting the checkerd flags and those of us who fly it should all be able to be counted on to acompany each other when someone needs to be talked to, but it sould be done respectfully and not in a "in your face confrontation" and not given to the rangers unless necessary when just a nice hey did you know will do.

  4. I don't know that there will actually be an ASA trailer at Dumont (at Glamis vendor row is a different story). From what I understand SandBlaster will be offering a few ASA fundraising items through his business, but there won't be a separate trailer.

SandBlaster... is that your understanding too?

I cannot imagine the ASA setting up a Glamis fundraising trailer at Dumont, but I could be wrong. :laughoff:

    VickiW

No ASA trailer, just some safety items to make people more aware. When FODD makes items available at Dumont, we will always be available and at FODD service to help distribute these items.

With all of us pulling together we can make the FODD an outstanding organization.

Talking to Vicki, she is the best to take FODD where it needs to be and we should be all proud of her efforts. :laughoff:

  5. sorry bro it was one of those weekends where i couldnt get anywhere i wanted to be i was always moving by the time i unloaded unlocked gassed up helped with problems it was 9 or 10 and i was starved so i would "sneak off" to hogs and had to hurry back or miss out on a run.

in my defense i did stop out in front of your place but i didnt see anyone so i figured you were busy.

and i did tell my wife when she went to your store to tell you she was mrs barefoot they were gone for hours ( i had to baby sit lol ) she has never done that. new vendors row worked for her :laughoff:

Like I said, come on by next time :laughoff:

We did not mind the location of Vendors Row however the silt just sucked. We were all tight chested for a few days after we got home. AJ's wife from sin city motor sports got really i'll from the dust.

I have never had so much dust in the filters of the AC before.

  6. Just got off the phone :call: with Bill Jones of the American Sand Association and we will be offering ASA safety items and safety DVD's when we vend thanksgiving at Dumont.

The safety DVD's will be free, however donations are welcome.

Items will include the checkered flag, and those who fly it, :thumb: support law enforcement and doing the right thing.

We will also be offering the 15MPH signs to place around your camp.

You will also be able to sign up for the ASA.

Supplies will be limited while we see how this is received.

100 % of the proceeds from the sale of ASA items will go back to the ASA.

We hope making people more aware will cut down on the numbers of those injured. :bump: and make the trip more enjoyable for all.

  7. If there were thousands of duners displaying flags that basically represent people who are not willing to put up with all this bullcrap that we are currently upset with then maybe thats a start. How many people do you think would do stupid stuff if they knew the majority of the duners present were unitied and not willing to tolerate it. And alot of times a simple ....Hey guys you may not know the rules so I am here to let you know.... would work just fine.

I would sign up for a program like this or even a different pro active version anyday.

    Actually there is such a flag;

    THE DUNERS CHECKERED FLAG PLEDGE

WE FLY IT AND LIVE BY IT!

    TRASH:

WE pack it in and WE pack it out

    ENFORCEMENT:

    WE live by the rules

WE support law enforcement at the dunes*

    WE report major infractions

    RESPECT FOR OTHER PEOPLE,

    SAFETY AND THE ENVIRONMENT:

WE act in a responsible manner

It can be purchased here at the ASA

  8. First off, we did not double the fees. The pass for all but 5 weekends went from 20 to 30 dollars and a season pass went from 60 to 90 plus 10 dollars per holiday weekend, none of this has put anymore revenue into Dumont Dunes as the BLM got 0 dollars from the state Green Sticker Grant Program. We lost 850,000 dollars in funding for this year and even with the aditional fees we still had to cut expenses. THERE IS NO EXTRA MONEY! :MBdance::banghead::idea:

maybe you read about my idea having signs at the rest rooms, vendors row etc with the violations and the fines that come with it.

Is this a good idea and how can we help the BLM with the cost?

  9. we need more people like you to make this sport affordable to all ! :rockwoot::laughing:

We have found most people who need helmets is because the left them at home. last year we had to outfit an entire family. I guess all their gear is in one large bag and they left it at home.

did you grab the bag, no i thought you grabbed the bag, I was going to grab the bag but I thought you said you'd get it...kinda thing.

We try to find decent helmets on sale - closeouts etc and then pass the savings on to our customers.

It's people like you who make vending a pleasure out there.

    Thank you! :thumb:

  10. Just a thought....

Is there a set of rules posted on a sign anywhere at Dumont? People generally do not read. (I did not say can't read) :thumb:

Maybe it could help if people had a list of the rules and the fines associated when breaking the rules. It could be posted on the walls or entrance to the bathrooms, Vendors Row, etc.

Another idea, just floating it out there... the BLM has so much land to manage, no funds, what would it take for the state to take it over? Seems somewhere I was reading where the state took over an area from the BLM.

  11. Anyways, the vendor (sorry don't know the name) actually charged him a very reasonable price for a really nice helmet. I was prepared for the worst but obiviously it was needed so any price probably would have worked.

Was it a red o'neal helmet where he was expecting to pay 150.00 or more?

If so I know nothing about it.....

  12. one can only ASSUME that the owner of the rail KNOWS the idiot that was driving...

    Why did he run?

its all open to speculation..drunk? no license? warrants?

    NIIIICE

Here in Las Vegas and I'm sure elsewhere, running is the thing to do. If you run and don't get caught for a day or so and you have been drinking, the fine for leaving the scene of an accident is less than if your convicted of DUI especially with injuries.

It's all the rage here in Vegas.

We were on scene of an accident w/o injuries and metro was so long in getting there, we turned around and the drunk was gone.

As firefighters we are not allowed to detain anyone unless they are a danger to themselves or others. We were on scene for 45 min and he kept talking to a group of people in a car and all of a sdden he just disappeared.

  13. i'm sure it wouldn't be to hard to get nitrous tanks out there to fill bottles....

I'm not sure what is needed to fill bottles. From what I understand in Nevada you have to be licenced or something. I could be wrong but it seemed like a big deal as at the checker on Sahara across from the DMV there is only one person there that can do it.

    Does anyone Know?

  14. You can always tell people yeah you could save 50 or 60 bucks on that CDI.. I'll let you use my internet access and order it right now..have fun this weekend knowing you saved some money but after spending 500 or 600 dollars on gas food and everything else you are going to enjoy sitting around not riding.

Oh yea we are used to it, it does not get to me, It's just funny why somebody trying to geta better price would bring up ebay. :dunno:

We will keep coming, we really enjoy coming out there. Plus I get to sneak off when the wife turns away for a min. Slave driver she is.

  15. My guess is that some road trash just needed gas to get to the next place to rob.

I'm buying a 25 foot coated cable and threading it through EVERYTHING on the trailer.

    My prayer...

Dear God, just once before I die, please let me catch a thief in the act. Amen.

I really want an answer to the question if what I have is really worth their life....
