  1. Arrived this past Saturday to beautiful weather, no drug sniffing dogs or LEO checkpoints of any kind. The helicopter took someone out late Saturday afternoon but no details on what happened. The wind blew lightly most of the day Sunday and cleaned the dunes up nicely so we tore them up all day yesterday. The weather was even nicer today (Monday) so we tore the dunes up some more for the crowds arriving later this week. Looking forward to another nice day tomorrow.

  2. I agree that the majority of us (rigs) are probably overweight. Not sure about other states but triple towing behind a 5th wheel is legal in CA as long as the total length of all vehicles doesn't exceed 65'. But you might need a Class A license.

And, although I haven't done it myself, one of these days I plan on adding a slide in receiver/cargo carrier to the back of my 5th wheel for fire wood, gas cans etc. and maybe even one of the kid's quads. Check out RV.net in the toy hauler category as others have done this mod successfully.

  3. FYI - I called the Barstow BLM office and the "BLM Free Days" do not apply to Dumont. Perhaps Dumont fits into the overnight camping category. I don't know.

Vet's weekend was free at Dumont two years ago but I only found out after purchasing a pass. BLM took care of me though and hooked me up with a free pass for New Years weekend.

  4. California OHV's stickers are actually $53 now but they're good for two years ($26.50 per year). I renewed three of them in June for a total of $159 and my truck, my 5th wheel and son's truck were all up for renewal last month for a total of $775. Talk about being screwed with no Vaseline! Ouch! Not to mention the highest gas prices in the country right now with the exception of Hawaii. Double ouch!

I know I'm way off topic here but all the states will continue to follow suit and rape all of us every way they can to make up for other lost revenues.

  5. The following link will take you to an RV detail deal in Southern California (Corona) if any of you need to have your toy haulers or motorhomes cleaned up for dune season. I bought it and will see how they do, but according to their reviews the service is top notch. Although my toy hauler is pretty clean inside, the outside needs a wax job bad and I sure don't want to do it. For $200, I couldn't pass it up. The deal expires tomorrow so act fast if you're interested.

  6. Hey sandman...that overhead shot is badass! it's too much of an overhead shot to be from a dune...how was it taken?

Thanks Wasp. Back in the early 90's a friend of mine had an Ultralight that he brought out to the dunes every Thanksgiving and he'd fly around the dunes taking pictures of us riding below.

We've got a winner. Great pic, Mr Sandman!

    Thanks Dunefreak!
