  1. IN CA - tow behind trailers over 10,000 GVW require Non-commercial Class A. 5th wheels over 15,000 GVW require non-commercial class A. I took the test for my 15,500 GVW 5th wheel.
  2. I'm not done yet! Day trip to Dumont on the 17th to blow off steam from a EXCESSIVE amount of weekend home remodeling/addition. Drywall, tape, mud, remove ceramic tile, lay ceramic tile (with mosaic patterning), base boards, door trim, paint, plumbing fixtures, etc. ..... think I'm about to loose my mind. Then it's on to the boat and duallie for needed maintenance before Havasu season starts again, looking forward to that! Anyone else going to be out there on the 17th?
  3. If you don't mind sharing, how did they write the ticket? Was it for GVWR of the trailer or overload of the truck? Thanks.
  4. Thinkin' of a day trip on the 17th, then it's boat season for us.
  5. SWEET. A big thanks to all involved in correcting this BS legislation. I hope it's just the beginning. I would have liked to have been there but I found out too late.
  6. I've never heard of this before, it's scary. Thanks for the articles and links. I live in Hesperia and have protessed BS legislation at our City Council before, only to have the Mayor agree with me and get over-riden. The council members tell me to get used to it, the City is "progressing". WTF. Completely useless individuals. I'm glad there are organization to get behind these days. Rant over.
  7. Here's a few more, sorry they're really big I don't know how to make them smaller.
  8. Sorry, I've been putting it off as I've not posted pics before. Bear with me if they are huge. Lets see if this works.
  9. I got in a bit farther than I'd thought I would, we were south of 6 on the west side of the dune finger. Great spot and just enough traction to get back out - gotta love limited slip rear ends.
  10. The weather was interesting - wind on Friday night, rain for about 3 hours on Saturday and absolutely awesome on Sunday. There was hardly anyone there and the dunes were great - wet, smooth and tall. I'll post a few pics soon. Looking forward to doing another trip soon.
  11. Yup, not too brave yet in getting into the sand with the new trailer. I'll likely hang out somewhere near bathroom 10 (I think that's the one south of the road). I'd thought about heading north of the road to try and get closer to the north end of the dunes for the kids but I'll check that out when I get there, not sure of how sandy it is.
  12. Adrian, Look us up if you make it out. I've got a large DomesticS sticker on my rear window, you'll notice my rig, there's not many lowered dually's with large 5th wheels. I hope it does rain, wet dunes are awesome, and it'll keep the dust down.
  13. We are heading out Friday, anyone else going out? I have a lowered maroon GMC dually with a Raptor 3612 5'er.
  14. IN CA? In CA you'll need either a single vehicle over 26K GVWR or a trailer who's GVWR is over 10K if pull behind and over 15K if 5th wheel.
  15. Hello, newbie here. I have a Non-comm Class A also, got it back in October. It consisted of a written test at the DMV (studied, took and passed while waiting to be called for another registration issue). Submit a medical form, just includes signed statements from you. No doctor visit required. Then a driving test is required. You have to know and demonstrate what to look for in a walk around vehicle inspection and trailer inspection. There is an on site driving test - stop, turn, straight back up and 90 degree "dock space" back up. The back up test is the same as big rig but it's nearly impossible with a 38 foot 5th wheel because the axles are too far forward (unlike semi trailer) and the space is very small. It only costs you a point if your not perfect. Then there is a road test - about 30 minutes of small streets, turns and freeway. No big deal. I only missed the 1 point for the "dock" parking. I got the NC Class A because my trailer is rated at 15500 lbs (thanks for the extra 500 pounds aholes at Keystone) and I didn't want to be hassled. I'm sure they will get me for lowered, tint, ...... but I do have an AZ registration now so I hope that helps. The testing instructor says that they do very little of the NC Class A tests in San Bernardino. Hope this helps.
  16. Al - you didn't say that you were cooking when I talked to you or I'd have rescheduled! David S.
