  1. the times have changed.

i got into an accident on my quad in the dirt which resulted in a criminal and monetary penalty. i'm not going to go into it further than that.

the driver of the rail will be held responsible, along with the owner of the rail i assure you.

can you say-driver, owner, manufacturer, and blm. the usual sequence is from little $$ pockets to big $$ pockets. not stating my opinion, just giving the facts in the court system. hope charlie is doing fine and recovers fully.

  2. I will address these as best I can. I have talked to the head LEO at BLM about these issues and more but this is the condensed version.

    1) camp racers are a problem in the fact that the LEO's have to actually catch them, so do they turn on their lights and sirens and go 80 MPH past the camps to try to catch them and then what if someone pulls out in front of the ranger in pursuit? The lawyer will ask if the officers actions were prudent and that would be a tuff one to defend ranger says : I was trying to stop a camp racer who might have killed someone" to which the attny would respond that" well he didn't but you did" The liability issue is huge and then what if the guys are on 2 wheelers or fast buggies or quads and run off into the dunes, do you put a ranger at risk in a high speed pursuit for a misdemanor ticket? The truth is they do what they can but it is impossible to stop it all and the only way to stop more of it is there prescence and education.

    2) Staking the dunes has been addressed and I believe the law has been requested but has to run thru federal channels before it goes into the federal registry and becomes law. Best advice I can tell you is don't go on them and take an unneccassary risk.

3)Trash is my big issue, I left camp in my rhino to go to see Pete and almost ran over a all glass firepit. I went back to camp and got a garbage bag and filled it with beer bottles(broken o course) 3 bottles of grey goose vodka and other assorted glas and aluim products. Just when I thought I had it all I would find another row buried in the sand. It took a concious effort to do this and I cannot for the life of me figure out why.

One of the campers I camped with walked our camp just prior to all of us leaving and found 2 pieces of paper that blew in. Everybody as far as I know picked up at least 1 bag of junk lying around that wasn't there's.

Is there a way to fix it well I hope so but education is the key but try to talk to some of these azzhats about the "right" thing to do and see what the reaction to you is. That is why if we are not careful we will lose the ability to go there.

I don't mean to be long winded but you cannot depend on the Goverment to fix all the issues it will never happen. We as Duners have to help with this and it takes volunteering and joining in this case FoDD and getting involved.

I am sick of the fix the problems so I can ride but don't bother me with how you do it just do it and leave me alone. That isn't going to happen so GET INVOLVED!

same old story. the leos are lazy and dont want to do their job. they are peace officers and can do about what they want. liability-are you kidding?? they dont have to pursue the car, just note it down(most cars have a certain marking etc) and ticket when they find or catch it. they have the power to arrest drivers and impound cars are their whim if they feel they are endangering the public with reckless driving etc. giving tickets for whips, riding double and all the little crap is just that-crap. there is really no reason for them even being there since they do nothing to keep the public safe. they are a waste of time. we need some real leos that will keep the dunes safe by showing some balls and get with the program. lets start impounding some cars and arresting the drivers-and yes that is within their powers. the laws are there whether its at the dunes or on I-15-there is no difference. they just have to be enforced. I ride my motorcyle over 100mph knowing that I will be arrested and my bike impounded if I am caught. THE LAWS ARE THERE-JUST USE THEM. Lets get rid of these bad apples so we can regain dumont for the real family off-roaders. ok, Im done. no more to be said.

  3. Guys please pay the tax, my sister and her husband are going through the same thing on bike they bought 5 years ago and now are being hit with fines and penalties. I do not want to see anyone pay more than they should have already. I don't think that they go after everyone or can't but it is not worth the risk.

Its the dealers problem if sales tax was not collected. The dealers are the ones in trouble because they sold the machine without collecting sales tax and now Utah wants them to pay after the fact. Utah has gone back and forth on this a couple of times(collecting sales tax vs dont bother). Who is to say that your purchase price didnt already include the sales tax since the machine was delivered paid in full? Who sent the letter, the state of Utah or the dealer? Bet the dealer did since they owe the state the sales tax they did not collect. This is strictly a Utah internal problem between the state and the dealers. If you received your machine, paid the bill in full, I would assume the sales tax was paid(whose to say it wasnt included in the sales price?).

  4. Spider, not trying to push but how can you fix something if you are unwilling to fight/stand up and be counted? Your bitchen here is not going to accomplish anything that I can see other than to lump you in with the other dune users who "don't want to get involved" but want everything they might need such as seeing a friendly EMT/LEO when you laying in the sand trying to breath! You get what you pay for and after as much time as I ghave spent at FoDD meetings, confrence calls and TRT meetings I am standing here telling you that you are getting every bang for your buck that you can get. So I am sorry that you feel the way you do, maybe this isn't the sport you should be involved in? Maybe golf or croquet where you can b*tch to the ref of groundskeeper. Otherwise if you have no wish to get involved nor a belief that it does no good to do so let me leave you with this, If the users and TRT had not fought to hold costs down and make BLM account for the money spent you would have gotten a lot stiffer increase no road improvements and no bridge widening that is coming this summer.

I do appreciate your opinion I just don't agree.

    Terry

  5. Sorry for the confusion of my last post. I meant just like Dunefreak said....its sucks that anyone should die like that......IT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN! I've heard a handfull of accounts of people dying from wormtracks. I remember about 2 years ago, 2 kids riding on quad (I know that's wrong), crashed and died that way. Some things just can't be avoided....fate....but no excuses for this to happen. Once again, sorry for any confusion or any hard feelings. :hello:

  6. Can't you just accept that we have the choice and not you? You can't control everyone yet it appears to frustrate you. This is exactly what I was talking about in an earlier post. The desire to control others when they don't do what you want them to. Why does it have to get to the point where you say the only choice we have is to DIE. WTF does that mean? ...and then wishing PEACE afterwards. You seem like one confused induhvidual. (no not a spelling error) I thought this was open for debate......it seems a little one sided to me.

Oh yeah...by the way...it's not the lawmakers making the choice for us it's the voters. People like us.

Wal-Mart rally at Nellis and Stewart......Don you coming?

pretty simple. you have a choice to do anything you want, follow the law, break the law or whatever, its your choice. you just dont have to a choice to die, we will all die and you cant stop it. do you wear a helmet on your quad? you dont have to if you choose not to. just because its the law doesnt mean you have to obey. freedom of choice. ps-I dont understand you post above?? what did you say?? nuff said, time to ride.

  7. ^^^^^^^^^^^^I couldnt agree more!!

you all amaze me with your comments. its NOT ok for a kid to wear a helmet in a buggy, but it IS ok for a kid to wear a helmet on an offroad atv, dirt bike, go kart, bicycle, skate board, etc. I fail to see your reasoning behind your statements. weak necks, give me a break. if their necks are so weak, then the driver of the buggy has no business putting them in a buggy. one thing is for sure, you can rationalize anything you want to meet your criteria. no point in discussing this any longer, as some people place their heads in a helmet and some place them somewhere else, everyone has a choice for now until laws are made for you. like I said, if you cant make a rational decison by yourself, the lawmakers will do it for you. the more accidents and deaths at the dunes, the more the lawmakers want to get their hands in the kitty. the overwhelming fact is that helmets are safer than no helmets, look around and see all the helmets on bikes and quads. why is that? was that your choice? or did someone make that choice for you?---aaaaaah, maybe the lawmakers made the choice for you!! even though there are laws, you dont have to abide by them--your choice. the only thing that you HAVE to do is die-the only thing that you have NO choice. peace out, ride safe.:coffee::thumb::loser:

  8. California helmet laws apply to motorcycles and quads not sandrails. Motorcycles and quads don't have seatbelts or a cage to protect the passengers.Back to my original point of you take care of yours and I'll take care of mine. The injuries from people not wearing a helmet in a sandrail is EXTREMELY minimal. And most of the people that can afford a sandrail and all the necessary equipment that goes with that can afford and do have health insurance. Even if I didn't have insurance and got injured and sent to the hospital they wouldn't be sending the bill to your house. YOU DON"T PAY MY BILLS. If you are paying someone elses bills then you are generous or STUPID to say the least. If you are going to argue that your taxes pay for that then you need to get educated on how things really work. If you want to complain about people that take advantage of free health care that is paid for by tax money then look at the welfare system and all the border jumpers out there that are taking your money. I am willing to say that you can't name on incident where someone was injured because they weren't wearing a helmet in a sandrail that is being paid for by you personally or by taxpayer money. It's not like people are getting injured everyday in this case but there are border jumpers that are breeding and have their worthless mongrels in this country everyday without paying one cent for the health care they receive and continue to be paid by your precious taxes in the form of welfare for them and their families.

Bottomline here is if you are going to use tax paid haelth care as an argument you need to ...(::edited::) It's a non argumnent.

No offense, but you are the biggest naive person I have ever read posts from. Actually, I DO PAY YOUR BILLS along with everyone else out there. What are you, a person living on an isolated island in the middle of nowhere? Every bill you pay is also paying for someone else-like it or not. You talk like you dont have clue about economics etc. The 21 year old deal is just a number, make it 18 then, who cares. The reason there are age limits is because under age children can not make a rational decision concerning their safety. So, they leave it up to people like you to make that decision. So, if your child dies from a buggy crash or whatever, is it their fault or the fault of the irresponsible parent? Like I said, if we dont police ourselves, then the legislatures will and they really dont have a clue about the laws they make. :shake::think:

  9. if you store inside all the time, put locks on the inside too. rig some sort of lock system. should be easy. that will keep them busier for a long period of time. I dont know why they dont just steal the whole trailer and work on it at home?

  10. helmets?? hmmm. helmets give protection and that is what joe-q-public insists upon. it has nothing to do with freedom of choice. the lawmakers are going to take that away from you for 2 reasons and you will have nothing to do with it. #1 deaths from atvs, buggies etc and #2 the insurance industry will mandate it and the legislators will implement it. so, get ready, it will come. I am for freedom of choice over 21, but mandatory under 21. I will lose also, law making will come. same reason we have windshields, steel sides in cars, seatbelts, flags on atvs, no riding double, helmets on atvs etc etc etc. either police yourself or the feds will do it for you. :yeah_whatever:

  11. some of the other sites have guys in construction and framing companies that will give away scraps of wood for free. any one here that is a super that can offer wood for the dunes? thanks, just checking.

  12. just saw this post for the 1st time. have you tried to open then lock with the end of a ball point pen? those round style keys are like the krytonite motorcylce locks that were all recalled and replaced with a key type. if it is the same type of lock, it takes less than 10 seconds to open with the pen. I would check that out, as I wouldnt like you to lose your toys again. go to the krytonite website.

heres the website, if it works. http://thirdrate.com/kryptonite_files/2.mov

ps-I had 4 of them for my motorcylces and krytonite exchanged all them for free a few years ago.
