  1. just saw this post for the 1st time. have you tried to open then lock with the end of a ball point pen? those round style keys are like the krytonite motorcylce locks that were all recalled and replaced with a key type. if it is the same type of lock, it takes less than 10 seconds to open with the pen. I would check that out, as I wouldnt like you to lose your toys again. go to the krytonite website.

  2. over on RV.net, I have read nothing but horror stories about johnny walker black label....disappointment after disappointment.

as far as them not servicing your rig.....find a local RV repair shop that you trust, and then call the maufacturer. tell them the deal about buying out of town,,,,,johnny walker choking on 9 inch richards, etc, then tell them of this wonderful place you found that works on RV's. they will let u use the new place for warranty work.

rv dealers are not like car dealers. rv dealers do not have to service any rig that was not purchased from them--totally unlike a car dealer who must service their brand of car. johnnies is no different from any other rv dealer, california is the same way, utah and ariz the same way. Im not for or against johnnies, just stating the facts for rv dealers. they might service a rig not purchased there, but you will be in the back of the line.

  3. Do not get a megacab. My friend has one and they don't have enough power to get out of their own way.

so, you are saying the dodge diesels, 1/2, 3/4, or 1 tons cant get out of their own way? the mega cab is not much bigger than the others. please explain, as I talked to a guy the other day with the 3500 megacab dodge and he loves it. he has a 36' 5th wheel and says he justs puts it on cruise 65 and goes down the highway.

  4. I rolled in 10ish Saturday morning and upon buying my season pass I was handed two different flyers. Both nicely done and informative, for first time vistors. No earthshattering news or new rules, regulations, or guidelines.

It's a simple concept that is just lost on this generation, RESPECT OTHERS. And lost on us as a Nation unfortunately.

flyers are a good idea, if the jerks would: #1 read them #2 try to follow them. as I stated before, we can do alot to help the situation, BUT, it is up to the leos to keep the dunes in order. too bad, when they see a dangerous, stupid, speeding car, wheelie popping car, speeding in camps next to people, etc, etc--that--they cant go over and give a ticket. they can do this because they have the power to fix and take away an UNSAFE condition at the sand dunes. on big weekends they should focus on the big infractions and forget the little ones. once a jerk gets a $1000 fine, he may not want to do it again. I think when I retire, I would like to become a deputy at the dunes to do just that. I guarantee they will be alot safer. the bad apples wont return if they get hassled enough. if they dont start taking care of these jerks, we will have another glamis on hand where the hp etc come with a portable jail cell-people will start robbing and beating up rider-rampant theft-etc. I think alot of the bad apples have come from glamis to dumont so they can act and do the stuff that glamis have tried to stop. too bad I cant park next to the fingers and enjoy the dunes and riding--but no, people have to park out in the middle of nowhere to enjoy the dunes and riding. same crap, different day.:bawl:

  6. Okay, I am in the market for a new truck. I currently have a 2002 Ford F250 PSD with 7.3. I love my truck, however, my kids are getting taller and losing some serious leg room in the back. Right now, I am looking at the Dodge Mega Cab 3500 and the Chevy. I'd like to know from you duners out there the what ya think. I am kinda leaning towards the Mega Cab for the leg room. Give me some opinions.

me too. which do you all suggest ---3/4 or 1 ton

  7. I agree with you, I must have misunderstood what your post was about.

I grew up riding those fingers and my parents never roped off the dune...but there werent as many people either.

hmmmm. this could really be helped alot if the lazy rangers would do their jobs and put an end to the racing, rebar barricades, etc. it only takes 1 leo per finger to patrol it. they had many more there doing nothing as usual. they just ride around waiting for bad to happen instead of preventing it. driver know they can do as they please since the leos wont do anything except give tickets for ridding double, rear light out or no whip. but its ok to speed 90mph across flats, pop wheelies where you cant see anyone, put up deadly barricade of rebar etc etc. yes, its getting like glamis cuz they have more leos and are trying to police better. so, alot of the bad apples are coming to dumont to show their balls. I had to move away from the crowd just to have peace of mind. the kids were running loose, driving all over, going around my camp instead of their own. great parents watching their kids. I had to shoe the kids and told them to go dust their own camps and not mine. got tired of it and just picked up toybox and moved far,far away. wasnt worth the hassle. it was a zoo out their without respect of anyone or anything. Ive never seen so many riders on the dunes without a clue of how to ride and the rules of the road. good thing I got there wed and had good riding on thurs. after that, a complete joke. to bad the sport is getting worse instead of better. the leos are going to have to start taking charge of the bad crap and forget the petty stuff or we will be in big trouble. my 2c

  8. Then that goes for the kids also. Slow down or get busted. It always gets me how people think the fingers dunes should be used. I think it's the most contraversial topic yet!!

....and I'm not fighting it....just asking what opinions are and stating mine. Anyone that knows me well knows that I am all about safety. I learned at a young age what it's all about. My pops lost all 8 fingers on a brake machine!!

...and therein lies the whole problem. Pretty soon the cones come up (or metal stakes :flipoff:)...then you can't go left or right because they've been coned off on both sides. Where's the give and take in that whole setup? I ride the fingers slow too to get to where I want to go...... and by the way it was stated previously even that should only be reserved for the kids. :talk030: This is why it's so contraversial. No one can see beyond their own needs and when there is a conflict like this, it becomes a heated subject.

Just as long as those parents don't substitute supervision with the ease of having a convienient playground right there. It seems as though most parents find this too convienient of a way to keep their kids safely busy (or so they think) and not really keep them supervised. Isn't this the most important time to keep them supervised? Teach them right? :2gunsfiring: I do know that my son was supervised well during these times and I know that's not an easy task. Kinda takes away from the adult fun...doesn't it?

I'd really like to know where you're pulling your stats from, as I don't feel like I'm in the 5%......there's a thread around here about coning off the finger dunes. Good read....might change your mind on the figures.

I'm not really looking to start an argument....it's just kinda funny how this one tiny subject can be sooooooo contraversial. WHY?

    Thank God it's October!!!

stats are from everyday life. 95% of people are ok and the other 5% mess it up for all. there shouldnt be any controversy here. law states 15 mph within 50 feet of camps, cars, people, groups etc. that pretty well sums it up when that particular finger is crowded. if the finger is unoccupied, then haul butt. common sense prevails. nuff said, no point in going on forever. see you at the dunes this weekend. :2gunsfiring: :2gunsfiring:

  9. Reserving dunes for certain riders and OHV's. :2gunsfiring: That would be considered a sanctioned event then.....wouldn't it? There are lots and lots of other small dunes at Dumont....what's wrong with those? :flipoff:

Yep, there are other small dunes, but since the fingers are occupied by motorhomes and children riding, etc, why not stay away and ride elsewhere? By law, if you want to be technical, since the fingers are occupied by camps and people, you CANT ride the fingers faster than 15 mph. If the rangers want to enforce it, they could. I am curious as to why you would fight against for such a small thing for safety of all. I have always riden the fingers slow just to get to the main dunes. Kids are always riding or playing on them. How about giving the kids some room to ride since alot of their machines wont climb on the big stuff and the parents can watch them from camp. I dont think it is too much to ask. 95% of the duners will find this ok with them and the, well, other 5% will always be the problem, no matter what the issue.:D

  10. HEY Barney RUBBLE where are these imagnatary wheelies and roost pictures you are complaining about

it are. You sure have a nice picture of my brand new rail getting out of the trailer. Where is your immaginaniry picture of me roosting you aaaaaaaat??????

    E\

yea, the fingers should be ridden with caution since the little kids play and ride there. isnt there enough of dumont that the fingers can be reserved for kids and little quads. Im not saying not to ride them, but do you all have to haul arse along or across them? problem is that alot of drivers still dont know when to turn it on vs turn it off! just because there is sand, does not mean it is a free-for-all. I used to park next to the fingers, but now I park in flat. got real tired of clowns jumping and speeding on the fingers. speeding and doing wheelies in the flat is nothing more than "look at me, arent I cool, check out my car, I'm bad etc etc". just my 2c since all the above wont change anyway. responsible vs irresponsible.

  11. I usually run the road between Baker and Shoshone a couple times a week for work so If I see the graders working the dirt road in I'll let everyone know.

ya, got 2 streams now and 2 messes now. the water should have been diverted higher up so the water would flow from the original stream. probably could have been done in 1/2 hour

  12. Yes Dave is the guy with that new Wicked car

dont know the whole story, but 50' is not far enough. my deal is, why do people have to ride the fingers and speed inbetween the fingers thru the camps---when you have the entire dunes out there??? as far as Im concerned, there should be a 15MPH speed limit in the entire dumont camp area. there is no reason to go fast in the basin and camp areas. Ive seen people get killed at dumont and glamis because these safe riders are too close to camps and make a mistake. an accident-yes could it be avoided-yes. if the rangers would do their jobs and stop this crap, instead of hassling us for stickers, double riding with kids, taillights out and whip flags gone, we would be a safer community. speeders next to camps should be fined $1k a pop and this wont happen. again, Im not talking about this 1 incidence, cuz I dont know about it, but we all need to be safe and ride safe. ride fast on the dunes etc. Ive been around the dune since 1969, so Ive seen and heard it all. ride safe all.

  13. If you buy a 20 dollar non-res. sticker for California that money goes to the OHV fund but, the money from a ticket for not having the sticker( 50bucks)goes into the general fund. OHV gets zero.

Some of our fine (worthless) dealers here in LV are big supporters of the NV sticker.Buy out of state pay the tax here and still be money ahead.

to cmyfirepole--you said you have 2 stickers. were these issued from nevada and if so, where did you get them? thanks

  14. If you don't have to pay anything to get one, how are they getting any tax money from you then? :woo_hoo:

Or is it just a way to collect/ regulate the tax dollars on the new bke sales?

there is no issue on taxes for machines prior to Jan 1,06. bikes after that date WILL have to show proof of taxes paid somewhere or no tag. you dont have to show anything for early bikes, you could just make up a bill of sale, so thats bogus. the law is only a step in the direction and more will need to be done. use oregon or idaho for your registration.

  15. I just went down to the dealership I bought quads (2005) and motorcycle (2001) from and they looked them up and gave me 3 stickers. I would think that without proof you paid taxes on the quads, you'll have a hard time getting the stickers.

they are supposed to give stickers to anyone that wants them, they are free and you dont need proof of ownership etc. what about all the used bikes out there that you buy from a private party without any paperwork etc?? anyone done this yet?
