  1. Just wanted to say thanks to ALL that helped that evening. We (Sheriff's Dept) were the first L/E on scene that night. The BLM Med-Aid buggy had some problems at the top of the hill so we were in need of help getting personnel up to accident. I especially want to thank the guy (I didn't get his name) with the green, white and black 2 seat buggy. We couldn't have handled it w/o him. Our Sheriff's Tahoe was hit by a DUI driver at finger 1 at the same time the Comp Hill fatal accident came out, so you can immagine the chaos. We had to get several Med-aid, CHP, BLM, and Sheriff personnel up and down the hill. All we had was the Sheriff's Dept buggy until our fellow duners stepped up, so thank you ALL very much. I know each and everyone of you have helped someone in the past. Sadly we see these types of crashes all too often, so please learn from them and be careful.

Jacob and Dez...congratulations!! You guys did it right. Very classy and memorable. I'm happy for you two.

Thanks Pete! And you're right, Neal is the Man!!!! We can't thank him enough...

  4. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is providing a FREE Child OHV Safety Course at the Sheriff's/BLM command post at Dumont on Saturday, 10-29-11. Each child will be given a certificate (and CANDY!!) at the completion of the class. Happy Halloween! See ya at the dunes..... :atv:

  5. We will be out there from 10-21 till the 1st or 2nd with the buggy, kids quads, (lots of water!), etc...Matter of fact, we will be tie'n the knot at the top of the Hill on the 30th. Stop by and say "hi!".

  6. "I still think they should have cautioned off that witches eye though Sunday."

SANDAWG I couldn't agree more. In fact we suggested that after I rolled up on the 1st buggy crash. The response I got was, "someone would hit the caution stakes and sue us".....Unfortunately sad, but true.

  7. I was several bike lengths behind him as we were going to do the whole top of Comp from the far right side across and down to where it tapers into the finger dunes. We made sure the hill was clear before we took off. As we cleared the section where most people race up and turn to the left to come down a RZR-4 came over the top, had him cleared with no problem but then a DS popped over the top behind him. At 65mph my son tried like hell to avoid the collision. Had the wheels cranked as hard to the left as he could without rolling it over and did a powerslide broadside into the other DS. The other DS was from our camp and a good friend of mine. All is well between the bunch of us.

If you've ever seen Indy racers get their wheels in between one another well that's what happened. One of them goes airborne. The video from my sons GoPro is insane and like I said before makes you wonder how nobody left in a meat wagon. I wonder if anyone happened to capture it from the bottom of Comp?

On the video from the point of impact until both riders stopped barrelrolling, cartwheeling, and flipping, took a total of 8 seconds. From the point of impact until the first Ranger arrived took 17 seconds. 17 SECONDS! They had to be sitting at the base of the hill. But outstanding response regardless. I think the Sheriff's Department sandrail made it to the scene before my boys DS stopped cartwheeling to the bottom. Again, outstanding job by everyone that can to help.

Thanks for the positive comments. We don't get those too often. I'm the Sheriff's Dep buggy driver and we were sitting at the bottom of the hill when I heard the "crunch" and saw the quads flying. I have seen ALOT of crashes in the 10yrs I've worked out there and I'm still amazed those guys walked down the hill. Definately angels on their shoulders that day!!

  9. Maybe Billsinca is talking about the age on the quad. If you bring a 50cc that says "no one under 6", can a 5 year old still take the course and be certified?

Bring your 5 yr old. We aren't the "no one under 6" sticker cops  . Our goal is to have as many kids take this course as possible, and make it a good experience for all. I'm leaving for the dunes tomorrow thru Halloween, but I'll answer any other questions I can before I leave....See ya at the dunes!! :yiah:

  10. Jake do the kids have to bring a quad that they are "legit" to ride or can my 13 yr. old bring the 450 he has been riding for 4 years? I would not have access to a legal size for his age quad and he would be bored so I would like to get him involved but have to be able to get it done. Let me know please.

Bring the quad's/mc's your little ones ride on a daily basis....We'll make it work! ;)

  11. This is a great opportunity. Did this last year at dumont. Usually you have to buy a new quad to get a free pass from your dealer. Dumont SBCSD are great guys and make the kids feel confident with their riding abilitys. Recomend this to anyone with kids. My daughter had to show her certificate to ride at Azusa canyon a few weeks ago :headbang1::whoop::thumb:

Right on!! Glad to hear your daughter enjoyed the class and had a cert when she needed to show it. Please spread the word guys. See ya at the dunes! :DDRrocks:
