  3. Good trip. Nice to meet up with some of the DDR peeps! Let's do it again soon! Who ever put on that fire work show killed it!!!!
  4. We'll be out there with our usual group near 5....
  5. It's all good times. The Imperial County S/O have their hands full down at Glamis. The Dumont folks are good, hard working people that just want to shread some dunes! Makes our job easy.
  6. Mineurbiz...."I remember a few years back, a couple LEO's tried to go have fun with the duners, bringing two of the dirt bikes to the hill and racing. What do you think that got them, nothing but grief, funny people like you want to complain about them, then when the relax and have fun with the duners people b*tch then too."........ya, I got a write up for that one!!! Lol
  7. Thats awesome. ..We'll stop by. Gonna roll in Tues at night. ..See ya then!
  8. Great pics Pete!!!! Thanks again for putting the trip together.
  9. Great weekend! Pete, thanks for the invite. I had a blast on the run I jumped in on. Nice to finally meet some of the members here. You guys definitely know how to run the dunes. I put nearly 90miles worth of duning, jumping, and wheeling on the buggy with not one issue. Happy about that. My boys broke both their quads AND Momas quad, but better the quads than the buggy! Baby Jake (11 months) had his first trip to the North Pole (VERY slow roll). Guess it's time to now punish the desert, and hit the dunes again in October.
  10. I knew my ears were burning!!
  11. Bob, your posts always give me a good chuckle! I think I'm finished trying to convince you water is wet and the sky is not falling. Like it, love it, or hate it...you don't have an "expectation of privacy" when it comes to the air scent around your car, truck, MoHo or anything eles you're are driving/towing. Meaning it is NOT a 4th Amendment Violation to walk a drug dog around your rig while you're in line waiting to buy a pass at Dumont, check point, border crossing, etc. This is straight from the mouth of one of our K9 officers with 20+ years of experience. Sorry if you aren't happy w/it, but it's law. Hech, I'm not happy w/our President for the past 4 years, but my wife and I cast our vote for a REAL change, so at least I feel like I'm trying to change something I'm not happy with. Bob, I feel like I owe you an apoligy. Poor you started this post simply wanting to share and express your opinion with wasteful spending. I feel like I helped de-rail your initial topic and turn this into a 4th Amendment debate. For that, I am very sorry. I hope you're not offended. Now, Bob, I have a little secret I want to share w/you and only you. I made a couple calls in the last 2 days. Come REAL close to the screen cuz I'm only gonna whisper it once. The Sheriff's Dept had nothing to do with the so called check point. It was BLM's dog and Rangers. This has been confirmed w/more than one person in the L/E community. There was actually talk about OUR handlers helping out, but they decided it was a waste of time/money...LOL!!....Now, I still admire Terry for checking w/Larry. But we need to consider the source. Larry is a good guy, I've worked w/him for several years. BUT, he is in charge of vendors and permits (and some others things)...NOT law enforcement activities. Larry did not intentionally give false information. NOW, you made some pretty dicey comments about the Sheriff's Dept pretty much trespassing on Fed land, violating EVERYONES 4th Amendment rights. Some advice my future friend...., do a little research of your own before you start bumping gums about something you know VERY little about, and spitting out something THAT bold. Those are some very serious alegations. I try extremely hard to be a positive influence on people (even crooks), and when the Dept gets a black eye, I automatically get one too. I guess it comes w/the job. With that said, I'm looking forward to shreading up some dunes w/you in the near future. Maybe even throwning a few back around a campfire....I'm sure you and I could have some pretty interesting conversations.
  12. Bob, thanks for digging up some case law on this situation. But don't just quote half of the court holdings, then start claiming 4th Amendment Violations. Bob's part..... "Police may not conduct roadblocks "whose primary purpose is to detect evidence of ordinary criminal wrongdoing." The part Bob forgot to post..."Such roadblocks must have a specific primary purpose, such as keeping roadways safe from impaired drivers, or enforcing border security." This is cut and pasted directly from the court holding section of the case law. Now the important part is the "specific primary purpose" clause. As far as I understand, and I did not witness the may-lay down at the gate, but there was a DRUG dog walking around peoples stuff. A DRUG dog has a specific primary purpose...wanna take a guess what that might be?? It's safe to deduct that removing DRUGS would help to reduce ordinary criminal wrongdoing, but it's primary purpose is to detect drugs. AND, a dog can walk around your vehicle as long as you're not detained for a period of time as to shock the court. We usually say a couple of minutes. Soooo, if people were stopped, buying passes and a dog is walked around their stuff while in line, there is no 4th Amendment Violation. You don't need a Search Warrant to walk a dog around. Now, did anyone actually tell the cop're NO, you can't come in, after the dog DID NOT hit on their vehicle?? If they entered w/o a S/W after you said no, thats a very clear 4th Amn violation. Did anyone actually just drive around the other's who were stopped buying passes and talking with the cop'rs? I'm just curious if it happened, and if they were chased down for no reason. Or were these contacts all consensual, meaning did the cop'rs just okie-doke their way into peoples castles with consent? A cut/paste from court holding on CA vs Carney..."A motor home is subject to the automobile exception to the 4th Amendment search warrant requirement because it is readily movable." The key point to this case is the READILY MOVABLE clause. If you're driving your MoHo down Dumont RD, guess what, it's READILY MOVABLE and Leo does not need a warrant to chech the reason as to why the dog hit. If its parked in an RV park, then it does not fall under the automobile exception to the 4th Amendment and a search warrant is DEFINATELY needed, even if a dog hit on it. There is much more to the Carney case as to why the Supreme Court over turned the Ca Court IF you read further, but you appear to be very selective in sharing only SOME of the information, which is not to the benifit of the members of this web-site. I don't think it's intentional though. Heck, even w/a degree in Criminal Justice and almost 13yrs on w/the SO, (nearly 10yrs of it in the driver seat of that kidny busting Sheriff's beam car!!), I sometimes get confused too. As far at the Sheriff's Dept being on Federal Land....I spelled it out pretty clearly...its on that page-long post I wrote about "nothing"... AND, just because my pal Larry said he didn't know anything about a dog or check point, doesn't mean BLM and the Sheriff's Dept didn't plan it together. I'm not saying Larry would lie, but Chief Ranger Pat Chassie(another pal) doesn't need to clear anything with Larry before deciding something. You're smarter than that Bob. If not, I got some ocean front property in AZ for ya!! You're painting a picture as if the Sheriff's Dept just rolled up like they owned the area, screamed suprised, and started going to town on peeps. Getting a dog and setting up a detail like that takes multi-agency involvment and planning. The BLM and SBCSD have a very good working relationship. I assure you, it was not a suprise or unplanned. As far as your topic title for this post...hey, to each their own...we're all entitled to our opinions. I just want to clear up some of the mis leading information you're throwing out there, my future friend .....I tried to keep it all above the belt for ya...
  13. Bob, point made. Thank you...It's interesting (and fun) talking w/you. That's what this is all about, right?? Voicing our concerns, trying to preserve our dunes (and rights!). White flag!! White flag!! It's my goal NOW to be on your extensive "friends" list. I know it's an up hill battle, but I'm willing to fight for it! Sooo, you wanna friend request me? Or should I friend request you? Doesn't matter, what ever, ok, you decide, ok, we can talk about it later, ok, alright, ok .....By the way, I like you car!! Gotta love GREEN!!!!!!
  14. I'm not sure what sparked the "crack down". But I agree, lets not have Big Brother get carried away. I think all GOOD peeps should have guns. Almost every truck/trailer out at Dumont should have a gun, it's our right!! But if you're a felon, then sorry, that right has been taken away. And yep, I miss my MGD in a bottle around the fire. But I don't feel like dealing w/the BLM Rangers sneaking around on foot catching my w/one. And I've had glass and nails in $400 paddles...it sucks!! The 70's....well thats BS if it gets taken away in my opinion. But its a good idea to have some sort of "owner applied number" on it if it is completely home built. How else would you expect to L/E to find it if it gets stolen. I personally never took one from anyone and I hope it hasn't happened to any of you. It's spirit of the law vs letter of the law. Look, I don't mean to rattle any cages. I believe in education and certainly want the dunes to stay open for my kids. The dunes are my life!! I can't speak for the cop'rs that treated any of you unfairly at the gate. I wasn't there. But if it happened, DO something about it! KNOW your rights and file complaints. It's way better than just venting on this website. I can assure you, I will never treat anyone unfairly. I will work a 30hr shift to put the spouse in jail that beat up their other half while at the dunes because they were high as crap, comb the dunes for you kids stolen quad, and give the shirt off my back cuz you just rolled your buggy in the middle of the freezing night and the medical personel aren't there yet (those guys rock!!). And Bob, I know you don't need a shirt so I'll give you my sandals. Soon, Capt, Bob and me will be BFF's for life...
  15. Now, now fellas, simmer down...simmer down. Capt, i guess the secrets out, but I DO get time off every now and again. I take the family to Dumont several times a year. I expect to have a good, safe time. I expect the cop'rs to do their jobs, protect and serve, just as your and my tax dollars are paying them to do. So if Sheriff Hoops or the Chief BLM Ranger didn't check in w/me before they launched some K9 check point, then you're right, I was "in the dark". GOOD!! I want to be in the dark on my VACATION...lol...! The cop'rs were simply being proactive...trying to stop a problem before it starts. I HATE tweeks and thiefs! If they can be stopped at the gate and taken away before they crash into my trailer, kill my family or steal my buggy, I'm all for it. It sucks chaining up your stuff every night (I'm lazy!!). If your stuff got jacked or gets hit in the middle of the night, you would be complaining about the cop'rs NOT doing thier job...Wondering why they weren't parked near your camp just watching over your stuff, keeping the bad guys away. Believe me, a few cites over the weekend is not going to balance the state or county's budget, nor was that the intent of the so called check point. Let me ask you this...Do you wait for you CV's to dry up before you pack'em? Do you wait for you motor oil to turn to tar before you change it? Of course not. You do preventative maintenance to keep your precious buggy going good. If crashes, vehicle thefts, assults and drug sales can be stopped before it happens, (or at least slowed) then why not? And if you think those things don't occur, then I'm not the one who is in the dark. These crime stats just fuel the cause for the groups that want to take our dunes away!! Bob, by all means, I didn't mean to insult you IQ. I'm glad you think you're intelligent. I understand you're frustrated and was just venting. I got stopped on the way in before. I didn't just badge my way out. I let them do their thing, what my tax dollars are paying them to do. I've been jacked with by punk-a$$ cops, given BS cites, etc...I was just giving Terry praise because he made a phone call and attempted to get some facts. You, Bob, are an "OG" on this site, obvioulsy due to your time here and your number of posts. I'm sure ALOT of peeps here look up to you and believe what you're saying is gospel. Soooo, in the nicest way possibe, you really should at least attempt to educate yourself on what you're talking about IF you're going to make assumptions. Were officers REALLY on OT, or was it normal duty or grant funded? What does the CITY of San Bernardino and it's budget problems have to do w/the price of tea in China?....Has NOTHING to do w/Dumont, the Sheriff's Dept or BLM, (or the Sheriff's old a$$ buggy). Ummm...dogs can smell pretty darn good...sooo good, that there is case law about it and a dog's "hit" holds up in court. But you're right about a couple things. Dogs CAN NOT read VINs. It takes 25 deputies and 50 rangers per VIN to do that!!! Also, the dog is a very limited resourse. With that said, we (as duners) were very fortunate to get the dog for the weekend. The dog is a very useful tool in stopping drugs from coming into Dumont. Drugs are the root of alot of crimes....dui's, thefts, assaults....Now, Bob, pull up a chair cuz it's time for your first lesson in Federal Land and jurisdictional issues you can't seem to grasp. Ever since Sheriff Penrod took and left office several years ago, BLM has no authority to enforce state penal codes. YES, Dumont is on Federal land, however, it is still located with in San Bernardino County and falls under the jurisdiction of the Sheriff. It is the Sheriff's responsibility AND obligation to provide law enforcement services. BLM's primary goal/mission is land management, hence the name. That's why they HATE nails, fireworks, glass bottles, etc.....with me so far?? BLM can go to town on someone with their Federal citations, but when it comes to crimes such as vehicle thefts, felons w/guns, assaults, domestics, death investigations, the fake $$ floating around on Vendor's row a couple years ago, they (BLM) look to the Sheriff's Dept to handle the investigation. By the way, the county doesn't have "county laws". That would be considered a county ordinance, but we'll save that for your next lesson since it doesn't have much to do with Dumont. Now, for the rest of you that feel like your right were "violated"....Do some research on your 4th Amendment search and seisure rights. If some jack off, badge heavy cop is going through your castle (trailer, motorhome, etc) without probable cause (lawful reason) or YOUR consent, then contact a cop hater attorney and sue the hell out of the agency. You'll get a new house, brand new motorhome and a twin turbo Tatum out of it!! We all DO NOT need those type of cop'rs out there. PS...BOB, if your IQ is so high, why don't you wear shoes???....Don't get bent, I was just kidding..
  16. Its nice that someone did a lil research before they just start ranting and raving about things they know very little about. Thank you!!
  17. Saw you truck many times at Comp. Looked pretty coool. Also looked like ALOT of work! Don't understand how your lights don't melt when you're brake'n, but never the less, looked good. I don't mind the VIN and drug checks either. Last thing I want is for a fellow duner to lose a family member because of an idiot who is high that crashed into them. If the po po stopped just one of those accidents from happening by jacking someones weed, then it was all worth it. BUT, in the same breath, no po po should ever go into your castle (trailer) w/o consent or probable cause (a lawful reason). Can't have those fellas over stepping their authority now can we....It's a lil thing called the 4th Amendment....
  18. Dune Master hit the nail on the head...But we won't turn anyone away unless it's obvoiusly unsafe for the child and the others around.
  19. You're right, it is silly. But what the hech, it's free and it can't hurt. Maybe your kid can teach the instructor a few tricks...hee hee
  20. Under 18 operating an OHV is suppose to have this certificate.
  21. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is providing a FREE Child OHV Safety Course, in accoudance with Ca Vehicle Code 38503, at the Sheriff's/BLM command post at Dumont on Saturday, 10-27-12. The first class will start at 9AM and the second will start at 1PM. Classes should last between 1-2 hours. Bring your child and their quad/MC as we teach them the basics for safe OHV riding. Each child will be given a certificate (and CANDY!!) at the completion of the class. Happy Halloween! See ya at the dunes.....
