  1. We have been there the last 5 Aprils. Total of about 35 days. I would say about 10 where shade and/or A/C felt good. Most were perfect. We had about 5 days of terrible wind, in the afternoons. Mostly it is good. The sand is great, and there is never many people there. We will be there again this year. Say hello...

  2. If you can I'd like to see a complete write up on the process, time it took, what all's involved, etc., as well as what other things need to be done in conjunction with the turbo set up and costs of course (if your willing to share). Thanks

The Turbo kit came with everything needed. The install took one day, working slow and methodical, and never done it before. I switched to the overdrive clutch, which combined with the turbo is a massive change. Other than that, the motor is stock. I am running about 9 lbs of boost. It you did some motor work, low compression pistons, you could run up closer to 13 lbs. There are a lot of parts, but the directions are very good, pics etc. and it went together pretty well. I got a good deal, from GTP. The sticker price for the turbo is about 5K. This includes the electronics to change over to the turbo. The clutch is around 1500. I havent driven a 900, or 1000, so can't compare them, but the 800 is lighter, narrower etc. The rzr, and 4 quads, exactly fits in our trailer, so we were not going to get something else.

    Any other questions, just ask.

  3. The acceleration and top end are incredible. I also added the overdrive clutch, also from GTP offroad. The combination is awesome. I had the car going just under 70 mph with more to go and ran out of smooth sand. I would say it is roughly twice as quick and about 50 percent more top end. Highly recommend it.

  4. post-7807-0-28319100-1381964398_thumb.jpRealized I never posted up pics of our new tow vehicle. We actually bought it at Dumont last Thanksgiving trip.

1994 International 4900 with DT 466 and best of all 4x4. If you see us out, stop by and say hello. You won't mistake the Tonka truck for anyone elses.

    Ride Safe,

  5. The 800s now runs like they should, lots of power and fun to ride with the quads. Many thanks to GTP off road. They gave me a great price and unlimited follow up when I did the install. Any questions, just ask. We are trying to get to Dumont for Thanksgiving but gave it a shake down at Pismo and the Desert.

  6. I know it is too late for this year, but what about going through AMA, CORVA etc? We ride the Hare Scramble season and all of the races rely on AMA insurance etc. to have the races. Some are even on BLM land. Everyone participating would need to buy an AMA card, about $36 but it is good for a year and supports the AMA anyway.

    Just a thought,

  7. When trying to get the car out from being stuck, the main shaft, in the transmission, snapped cleanly between 3rd and 4th gear. Took a while to find the parts, but they are on the way and the car will be back on the sand. We just worked out work, and kids, to make it to Dumont for Thanksgiving. Second year in a row, so I guess it is now a tradition. The car missed the trip to Oregon and 2 trips to Pismo. Luckily, I love riding my quad too. See you all there soon.

  8. Hey there. Riding around Dumont, last trip, I managed to stick my rail on a small razorback that I didn't see in time. When we got it out, all seemed well, when I tried to shift into 4th, nothing. Nothing at all, no noise, no grinding, nothing. All the other gears are fine. No noise at all. I drove it for several other runs and everything seems fine, just nothing where 4th should be.

I have pbs cable shift, but it seems like it is moving correctly???

Any thoughts would be much appreciated. I am in Northern Ca and if you know of someone up here that works on sand trans, please let me know. Heading to Oregon, for 2 weeks, late July so need to get her back on the road, or sand.

    Thanks,

    Dan

  9. Florence is a blast, we go there every year late July early August. The dunes are much smaller than Dumont, but there are many types of terrain. You can do the beach, some decent hills, trails through the trees, find some cool ponds, jumps etc. Always great weather when it is hot at home. Happy to answer any questions you may have.
