This has been discussed before. Dumpsters at Dumont will only cause MORE trash and problems. People just need to take a little more time caring about getting the trash HOME and into their trash cans. It's not that hard. I have been doing it ever since I have been going to Dumont. Even with all those bags of trash from comp in the back of our trucks on the drive home, we managed to get it home no problem without flying out.
I am new and didn't it was discussed, but, maybe hand out orange bags and ONLY orange bags go into the dumspter?

chapperal in california aint much better but burts in azusa is
He is right. Bought son a 2006 Suzuki 125L there. Bought the '05 and 10 minutes later he walked over after we thought they were cleaning it up said it sold to someone else. After complaining and 30 minutes later we left in a '06 for $200 more.
We were paying cash and got the advert price. I bet someone paid retail and financed it at 18% so they sold it to them. That's what I think.

we go baker, the way home and see atleast 5- 10 bags of trash that people dont tie down or something,,now that pisses me off
does anyone else see this shiyt on the road ways leaving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????
Right. Make sure after you get it into a trash bag, tie it down. I wonder if people don't want to haul it home and just leave it on the side of the road??? Maybe (if not already) there should be a dumpster set aside to through these clean-up bags away?

Again... I'd like to thank everyone who helped out with cleaning up comp hill this afternoon. We filled up the entire back of my truck with about 7-8 bags of trash. I can't believe some people!
First...the people that leave all that trash there in the first place....
...then all the people that just watched us pick up the trash and not help out at all. A few people and there kids did help us a bit. That was cool to see that SOME people care and wanted to help. Others just sat back and looked at us like we were crazy.
At one point, I think it was sand~snake that heard a lady say, "oh look, they have people that come out here and clean this up!"
HELLO???? No they don't have people that clean it up...other than 2 volunteers, Don & Ellen (the camp hosts), they don't have anyone other than duners like us that appreciate Dumont and want to take care of the place. You don't sh*t where ya eat, people!
I hope more people become pro-active and try and take care of Dumont so we don't have to keep cleaning everyone's crap up!
First off, pack it in, pack it EVEN MORE out...that's a no-brainer
Second: your last day at the dunes, grab a trash bag and go over to comp and fill your bag up. We took over about 10 of us and it took about 45 minutes WITH TEN PEOPLE. If more people helped out, teh less we would all have to do.
Third: If you plan on partying over at comp, bring a trash bag or two with you.
Thanks to crazymexeddie, vegas style, racnjasen, and anyone else that threw some trash in the bag of their trucks to haul back home. Even after dispersing the trash to all the trucks, Eddie's truck was STILL full!
My hat goes off to you guys.
Thanks,

I know I know. The story behind the topic was this though...
2 people on the board got into it about there trucks one time. Ya know how it goes....a typical Ford vs Chevy arguement. In this case it was an old azz Dodge vs everyone else's rides.
Whatever thread it got started in, it became WAY off topic. Hence the reason this thread was started.
I started it for all the truck sh*t talkers, not really because I wanted to talk any smack. In topic it says "who wants to argue about whose truck is better?, lol" Then my first post says..."Not me! :mc_smiley: "
It's all good, Bob.
Good times...good times
:mc_smiley:
Bob is a good guy. Needless to say, behind my truck is Bob's. I was towing him from the "baby dunes". :mc_smiley: :mc_smiley:

not only should taping/coning off the finger dunes be illegal, and ticketed, but rebar in the sand is a lawsuit waiting to happen
If I were to run over rebar, put in the sand by some AZZhole, and I run over it, and get hurt, reck my ride, and whatever else, you bet your AZZ that is negligence on THEIR part
why stop at rebar??? hell, plant some fuggin land mines out there!!! put a 50 cal turret on top of the toy hauler and kill anyone that comes within 100 meters of camp!!!!
where does the lunacy stop????
I was going to bring cement next time and put a block wall up. The rebar will be inside the block wall. That's ok right?
-
you cant say f roping off a piece of the finger there are so many a$$hats that are hauling a$$ in the finger dunes. the children are in danger . i dont like that rebar thing i know tom puts it down around camp but the people next to us had the hill taped off. i dunno if it was rebar or not . those folks are from vegas we know a few of them .( i almost had to punch one of them i hate techno music at 1:30 in the morning)
anywase the lil ones need protecting to and if we adaults are alil uncomfortable i dont see a problem.
it would be better than talking about the death of a child cause of some a$$hat that thought it was his right to haul a$$ through the fingers . the rules even state you are to go like 25 arund campsights. but who is adhering to it ???
we didnt rope off the finger right next to you but the other camp did and quiet frankly i liked it cause it slowed people down from haulin a$$ through there.
if you recall last year a child was seriously hurt cause some genius in a sand rail thought that the fingers was a usable dune and ran him over .
No rebar, it was cones that I saw.

this has been a big battle with the green sticker....in nevada you don't have to register an OHV, in california you do. when you register your OHV in cali, they give you a green sticker. but with me being a resident of nevada, i am not held to registering in cali. thats like having to register your car/truck in cali because you drove through. don't get me wrong, i have no problem paying to use the park/land....but if i get hassled, i am just gonna have to tell 'em like i have before... i am a resident of nevada
I think there is a sticker for non-residents you have to get then.

Come on now I don't need reply's like that.
If you believe it is the north pole, then you have to believe Santa comes and gets them. Thus the reason for the response.

I was wonderin if anyt of you guys change your gearing for the dunes .... I have a 06 trx 450r , i run 14/38 in the desert and dune's i can pull comp in 3rd sometimes 4th ...stock is 13/38 ..........but it seemed too low in the desert i was always searchin for a higher gear in 5th ...........So should i try different gearing for dunes to pull 4th?? or will it be the same as runnin 3rd with the gearing i have now?? Sorry for all the questions just i've never messed with gearing ........
Also what kind of bike do you have and what gearing are you runnin??
I went to the dunes for the first time last week. I re-geared also. Stock on my Predator is a 14 and it had a 13 on it. I also thought it was to low. I went to a 15 and loved it. I did comp hill in 2nd "pinned" with zero problems. 20" paddles.

I must defend my predator and say it must be the rider. Because I have a 450R under my belt with a witness, I am sure he will read this and post as a witness.

Seems like there's 2 camps, those that think no cage would hold that, and those that think a roll cage should be designed to withstand crashes appropriate to the performance of car it's attached to. I fall in the latter camp but I am not badmouthing or criticzing those that think no cage would’ve held up. You folks have a right to that opinion, and you can choose to ride in/buy any design you are comfortable with.
As an aside from the main purpose of this post, I have an issue with is some of you guys that are protecting personal friends in this particular accident i.e. whomever the mystery builder is. If this guy was qualified in all the fields he needed to be qualified in then I see no reason why it’s such a big secret. It’s already going around that the car was built in Bullhead so I’m sure more will follow. I said it before but if you know the builder and or the owner you are biased in this discussion, that sounds harsh but it is the fact.
My post from this point forward is directed toward those people that are not satisfied by what they see and would not like a cage to collapse on them in a similar event. I would ask that those of you who think the cage performed acceptably respect those of us that differ from your opinion. Some of us want to free flow of information in order to learn from this tragedy.
As a forward (from this point) I will say that I manage a machine shop. I’ve been showing the photos to various professionals within my complex. Some of my employees have been involved in various forms of racing for decades and have done race vehicle fabrication. They are not definitive experts, as they don’t specialize in sand rails however, they are professionals that machine and fabricate for a living. I talked to my mechanical engineer (he has a college degree in mechanical engineering & 40 years hands-on experience in the industry) as well as 2 of my machinists/fabricators today about this event. Long story short is they all independently told me that cage was an utter failure (for a multitude of reasons). For a significant number of us unrelated to the victims or the “ builder” this is obvious. I just wanted some professional opinion one way or another.
Some lessons I’m taking away from this event:
Modern sandrail building should be left to professionals, preferably Degreed Engineers, metallurgists, and the like. If you build one in your garage then you’re betting your life on you knowing all you need to know about all the critical disciplines involved with the structural safety and integrity of that car. That’s ok if that’s what you want but also, you’re betting passengers’ lives on your “expertise”. If you allow one of your buds build you one in their garage or even if they own a “welding shop” or whatever, you are betting your life and any passengers’ life on their technical know-how (or lack thereof). Think about it.
I also had my guys look at various brands of "retailed" cars and the car on the DDR.com banner. The bottom line I got back from them on the banner car was they thought the cage design was horribly inadequate in a variety of ways. They also saw serious flaws in many of the LT chassis being marketed today. Again, if you're ok with a roll cage that will only protect you if you turtle over at 5-10mph then ok, that's your choice. My problem is I guarantee you 99% of the people that buy these cars think the cage has been engineered to protect in most crash events. Unfortunately, that is not true for a number of chassis on the market now.
Any form of sanctioned auto racing has reviewed, verified, and proven safety standards. From local NHRA, local NASCAR, local IMCA etc to the big leagues where each team and the sanctioning bodies themselves have armies of engineers and medical staff constantly strive to make sure the level of safety surpasses the performance of the cars. Sand rails have no sanctioning body standards to meet. Its buyer bewares. Educate yourself on what level of safety construction you are satisfied with and what makers meet and more importantly don’t meet your build standards. Do not ride in other folks’ cars that are not built to your level of satisfaction, it could mean your life.
I could not have said it better.

very well said,,,dont blame anyone or any weld,,,lets go on !!!!! and stop this and remember what could happen to any of us,rail ,quad, bike or rhino......out rk
I don't think anyone is blaming the welds or anything per say more who did it so they don't buy from them. Maybe I am wrong. But after reading all the posts the same question is asked or stated "who did it?" Its not a bad question IMHO. We all have families. A guesstimate is a engineer didn't make the frame thus there could be an error. If someone is reading these posts and building a buggy I beat thats on their mind to make sure their's is built good.

question...
why do the rangers let people courdon off the top of the finger dunes?
what is next? some azzhole taping off comp hill? super bowl? with the excuse, "this is MY camp"
suggestion.
maybe when ddr is present @ dumont, with crowds, two-three people in a side by side could go around to as many campsites as possible, and just give them the heads up. (i would be willing to do it for a couple hours when I am there.)
I assume the purpose is to allow kids to ride without the parent having to watch them. Maybe not all the way to the top of the hill would be a compromise? Like half way? Just a thought. Our camp didn't do this, but next to us did.
