  1. To be honest it's almost a live style to me instead of a sport. All my vacations were planned around a trip to either Pismo or Sand Mt. when I lived in Sacramento or Buttercup when I lived in Tucson and now Coral Pink, Dumont, Armagosa, Nellis Dunes or Trail rides in the mountains. I didn't know about the riding opportunities around Vegas when I moved and sold the car with the trailer for $2500.00 because I just didn't realalize it.
  2. Taken in 1979 at Sand Mt. Nv. outside of Reno. There was a cattle tank on the west side of the hill where we cooled off and cleaned up. :swim: that was some of us......Others would disappear at night and come back in the morning all smiley and cleaned up. Guess thay went down the road and visited the girls at the "little red house" :sophie: Not me, honest, I never did that..... All parts taken off of a tunnel rail (shortened VW pan) for the younger folks. On the next trip I endowed and barrel rolled it with the wife in the car. Mis read the sand since the last trip there. Spent the night in Fallon at the hosp. Wife had a concusion. We only had lap belts at that time. She tells the story that I did it on purpose That same trip she got stung by a bumble bee on the way up there. It must have been camped behind the seat of the truck. Rail had a 1641 turbo. Kept up with the hotter 1835's and early 2140's. When runnin the hills at Pismo and Sand Mt. I spent more time looking at the sky than what was ahead of me. Got to love a rear enging car. Now days I can't see well enough to try that stuff. I can still find the booze and food though. Still love my trips some 30 years later.
  3. Dune Demon, or anyone else that just may be interested in a great quad. I happen to have a practicaly new 2006 Kawasaki 400 KFX. The Dr. suggested (strongly), after my knee surgery, not to ride the ATV. I had just put a chrome 2" widened axle on it. I also had just put an extended chrome 2" swing arm. I also purchased and am using 2" spacers to widen the stance even more. In addition to the stock width. It has not been raced or wrecked or abused in any way. I estimate that it has less that 40 hrs. on it since I bought it new in late 2006. I have ITP sand tires on polished wheels and the stock tires and wheels too. I have the three piece pick up ramp and the new quad jack I purchased . I have the saddle type bags for longer trips. It all goes together. If any interest is out there feel free to contact me via pm or phone and I will arrange to get you info, pictures or whatever. The price is very negociable. I have nearly 8K invested in it so. I'm lookimg for 5K +- for it. It gets started regularly and ridden on my property just to keep the fuel moving and the battery good. Thanks, Pat 702-343-9286 Henderson, Nevada I will be at Dumont with the quad the weekend before Halloween weekend and staying for Halloween weekend too. I can also deliver it if you need it prior to that.
  4. SBK, Your a good time spoiler. Unfortunately, you are right on. IT's the damn fan!! No child support or alimony either.
  5. Thanks for the info YNOT. Dem damn fans are spensive!!! I think I'll look for a desert Foxxy to sit on the floor of the Rhino and I'll buy her one of those asian hand fans and I'l buy the beer. It will be cheaper. Pondering........Girl??????? Fan???????, Girl????? Fan??????? Think I'll go with the girl.
  6. I 've thought about a fanst want to find a very low amp draw that still moves a lot of air. Might be tough to find.
  7. It comes out under the seat. It is not air tight by any means. It has been a nuisance ever since I bought it. It is a 2006. Maybe they made some changes in later year models. Double Shrug!
  8. It's a little late in the year to bring this up but there is far to much heat that gets into the passenger compatment from the radiator and the heat off the engine during the warmer months. Have any of you Rhino owners done anything to try and deflect the heat away from the drivers legs. I've tried a couple of things but nothing has worked very well. I hate to wear long pants when it is above 50 degrees. Thanks, Pat
  9. A few of us are going to be at Dumont the weekend of the 24th of Oct. I am going to be staying until Halloween weekend too. So if you see My big Red Ford and Toyhauler or the Rhino Pictured, drop in and say Hi. We usually camp just east of the old vendors row. Being a "newbee" I'm looking froward to meeting some of you. Thanks Pat P.S. I'm also posting a picture of the Rail I wish I hadn't sold.. Some of you may remember seeing it at Dumont in the last 5 years.
  10. Found some old pictures from Pismo and Sand Mountain. 1st 3 wheeler 110 Honda. My 1sts rail 1641 Turbo that was in a tunnel rail. i put everything into the Sprint 3 frame 1978. OUr group on top of sand mt. and family at Pismo Thanksgiving 1979. We loved them both, almost had them to ourselves.
  11. Thanks for the welcome and the comments. Now that I am officailly retired I will have more time to enjoy the site, meet some people and enjoy the dunes more often that the 5 trips a year that I have done for years. I will look for some old pictures from Pismo and Sand Mt. from the 70's before Pismo got so resticted and Sand Mt. had no bathrooms. Have a great day and thanks again.
  12. http://www.rc-trucks.org/yamaha-rhino-snorkel.htm I recently attempted to change my intake system to increase the air flow and help with my performance. It didn't work and after finding this article I found out why. It is about the snorkel system but the theory of "vacum signal" explained it all. If I had wanted to spend $403.00 for the Edlebrock carbuetor, developed for the Rhino, I could have left it the way I had it. I just put it back to stock and I was lucky that Checker refunded me the $43.00 fpr the K&N filter I special ordered. We live and learn. The stock carb uses vacum to operate the slider and with no air restriction there is not enough vacum to work. I have talked to a couple of others that have tried to use the snorkel and they weren't happy with that system either. Not to say no intake mods work but mine didn't. I did attempt to re jet it up to compensate but that didn't help either.
  13. I was thinking about reversing the direction of tire rotation on my Rhino to see if that would give more traction in the sand. My reasoning is that the tread pattern would pull sand into the tire track and help keep me on top of the sand instead of digging deeper while spinning the tires. Probably not a huge difference but who know it could be better. I assume that the arrow is just to remind us that that is the prefered direction of rotation and not that reversing will damage the tire.
  14. Thanks, I just hope there is someone out there that sees this thing as a positive. I tried to sell the KFX 400 for a year and had no takers. I'm reluctant to try and sell anything now. We'll give this idea some time for more to see it and see what happens. Thanks for the input. Especially from Hendertucky or Hooterville in the old days. Home of the Green Cloud.
  15. Sorry for the duplicate messages. I'm just learning and having my share of senior moments.......
  16. That doesn't solve my issue. If I just buy a buggy I have to leave the Rino home. My trailer will haul my Rhino and the ATV now. I have always had a spare vehicle to go on a trip. If I trade the rhno for a buggy I can still take the quad and the rail if it is under 13 feet long. My old rail was 13 feet long and it worked perfectly. With the economy the way it is, most people don't have the money to spend so why not just think about trading for what I want. That way 2 of us get what we want and no one spends any money. I do appreciate that you responded though! Pat
  17. I miss my rail and am thinking I might want to trade my Rhino for a decent reliable rail. If I keep my Rhino I would consider trading my Toy hauler, a tag along 26 footer, for something smaller. I am new to the forum but not new to Dumont or the other sandy areas in the southwest. Be doing it since 1976. What I am looking for is help making a decision on what to do. I am uncertain at this point. thanks. Smaller trailer, keep Rhino or trade Rhino for a rail. Henderson
