  1. Not really fond of the colors (panels and intercooler scoop need a wrap), but if you want to dune fast especially in the tight stuff this car would be hard to beat. Has radios / car to car, big power, bypasses and from a VERY respected builder. I have seen the car but do not know the owner.

Car would be approx 14' if me more serves me correctly

  2. So many options, I'd stick with a well known builder. 2, 4 or 5 seat? At 30K you are going to be in a mendeola 2d car most likely. That being said I would stick to a smaller motor with forced induction (2.5l turbo subaru, 3.5l turbo honda etc) these will give you the HP needed for the sand but don't have the gear crunching torque of the LS platform. I'd also look for a car with bypasses in the rear minimum.

  3. Your budget is spot on but your length requirement will severely limit your options as will your height. Both mid and rear engine cars have their advantages, the mid engine cars I have owned seemed to have a little too much weight on the front end in rough sections (hard pack) for my liking. I think if you can rearrange your storage to accommodate 2-3 more feet you will be much happier with your selections of cars. As for the Revo, they look fun and the radius on the cage may accommodate your height. Other pre radius roof smaller cars such as an SU ultralight will not afford the head room you need.

  4. Here's another one for your folder on the field manager in Barstow Terry. I called the office on

Thursday to try and see if I could enter on a day pass on Saturday. NO one answered the phone and I was told to leave a message. I did but never got called back.

The purpose of my day trip was to find some of Bob's friends that knew him from his many trips to

Dumont over many years. I knew many of them didn't go on here or read facebook and would appreciate

    hearing about his unexpected death.

I went over early Saturday morning and stopped at the fee station to plead my case to not have to pay the full weeks fee when I was only going to be there a couple of hours. got several "sorrys" but

    "that is the policy".

One of the ladies at the gate recognized me from my many trips that always include a trip down from

our perch on the bluff to say hi to all of the workers I and Bob knew. I asked where one of the

regulars was that I know and, he knows me and was told he was working the late shift and was told he wouldn't be "authorized" to let me in on a day pass or a visitors pass that I have seen issued before for short visits.

There were comments by BLM personnel made, that they really should have a day pass at Dumont like

they do at another BLM run OHV area from the Barstow Office.

I could go on but it came to the point that I paid the $40 bucks for entry into Dumont and was gone

in less than 4 hours after finding and contacting 7 people that appreciated my efforts.

I sure hope for Katrina's future management assignments she learns that there are grey areas in life and business and not everything should be based on what is in a book or are always black and white.

When exiting I stopped and asked for the person at the gate to mark the time I left on my receipt and he wouldn't do it.

Manage by fear, come on now!

It is better to be feared than loved, if you cannot be both.

  5. Not sure what dune raspadoo was at, but is was chilly :cold: we even had a day time fire going.

But what a blast of a weekend.

So much fun I didn't even take out my camera!

    Campfire dancing NYE, fun times!

Laying in the hauler with a hangover on NYD, relaxing with movies.

Spending 10 out of the past 14 days at Dumont, priceless.

Only went on two rides, but after the epic weekend of Christmas, I really didn't care.

I did get a bit pissed though, when some group, a motorcycle and a couple RZR's kept cutting me off to get in the line I was already bringing up the tail end in! Find or make your own line jerks, don't cut off the person already in the line to join it! Not once, but 3 times! :pissed:

Seemed very quiet out there, talked to a couple rangers while waiting for Beefy Boys dinner on Saturday and they said it was a quiet weekend, no incidents.

We did make it over to comp NYE for a minute, place was pretty dead with only a couple groups out there, this was about 10ish.

Played the saran wrap game on Saturday night, that was good laughs!

All and all a great weekend of camp fun!

First time ever camping in the small dunes, asphalt from the road must hold heat LOL We were reading reports of 19 at night and 40's during day so we were pleasantly surprised. Did not seem near that cold :thumb: We left on Fri, dunes were TORE up. Time for some wind. Had 1 injury in camp, xp900 on side and stock breather spilled hot oil out of reservoir onto drivers arm. Going to re-route...
