  1. Looks like you're really putting yourself into this :MBdance:

    Have you done the welding?

Have you done the CAD engineering? What program are you running?

I too, had an interest when i was younger.

A thought: :MBdance: the weight won't be an issue....until you have to get towed :ahhhhh:

Seriously though, It looks darn good :ahhhhh:

  2. Jake has been in the sand since he was 6 months old. Absolutely loves buggy rides.

BONUS- Just found out we are expecting another lil. future DDR member :blah:

new edit:we're expecting twin future ddr members :laughoff::ninja:

  3. I guess thats what Im getting at, has any one been stoped with a class A commercial and had any issues?

A CA. Class A will make you legal to pull some serious weight, but if you're pullin 2 trailers, you'd still need the doubles endorsement. (just so everyone's clear)

Just don't go get a commercial Class A, unless you absolutely need it for work or something, because of the stricter requirements as mentioned in earlier posts.

  4. 1st. make sure it's not a linkage problem. It could be as simple as an adjustment on the shift rod that runs between the seats. The shifter box could have reached it's forward limit of throw, before the shift rod/bar clicks the trans in; if that's not it,... :beercheers: it could get expensive

  5. It'll be hard. I'm sure there's something out there you can tow. However, with a 4.8 liter engine, that limits you, as well.

Chevy's 4.8 was strong enough for me, but the trans. was the weak link. Just watch what kinda weight you pull, and don't be too proud to back out of it on a hill. If it downshifts to 2nd taching 5500, just lift the right foot a bit :ahhhhh:

  6. I had the same truck: 4.8 1/2 ton auto(ext.cab).

I bought a 28' cargo box 4500 lbs. I had a sand rail, a quad, and a bike in it. couldn't have been over 7,500lbs. After 4 seasons of running to glamis, I was $2200 into a new tranny. Maybe a transcooler could've helped. Went and bought a 3500 dually, diesel, allisson :ahhhhh: No worries now.

Also, that light little truck got tossed around pretty bad with wind, or passing trucks...something to consider :driver:

  7. Man that is BS andy! but on a second note , I like the Idea of knowing the guy next to me towing his 40 ft trailer has at least some what of a clue!

Yah, it sucked; but I couldn't agree more :ahhhhh: . I wanted to encourage everyone to be legal. I wanted people to read and assume they wouldn't get the chance to "park it until someone else can legally drive it."

I drive So.Cal. as a local, O.C. to Long beach to hollywood to the desert, Victorville to San Diego; and have seen more idiots and the damage they cause in 14 yrs. of driving, than most people have ever seen.

In short, If you are exceeding your limit, please get legal; because the leo's have the authority to bend you over :driver:

  8. After reading through the other thread about vehicle stops through Tecopa and other areas to and from Dumont I thought I'd post up the following info. Although I don't know anything about the licensing requirements for other states this info applies to CA drivers who tow 5er's over 15500 GVWR. Additionally, I heard a lost of stories about the weight police/CHP enforcing this law in the past year or so and even though it seemed to only be applied to those headed to and from Glamis, it's now happening elsewhere too. From what I understand tickets carry a hefty fine and there's also a chance you could be forced to park your rig until someone with the proper license can drive it for you. Either way, it sucks and it would thoroughly ruin a getaway weekend but with the current economic crisis in CA you can expect even more enforcement to help build the budget.

In a nutshell, the non class A test procedure starts with a written test and then you come back for a driving test that begins with a thorough pre-drive inspection and then the driving test itself with backing and parking elements included. I've made my appointment to take care of this annoying requirement but being legal will give me peace of mind. More info can be found here or on RV.net in the toy hauler section.

    Accurate info :dunno:

but I thought I'd add an experience of my own: We call the weight police DOT's , or polar bears(the all white cars),or Commercial cops, and even camper cops(those pickups with the topper shell on them they take out on the weekends to go fishin and stuff)

One time, I was caught in a raid(where they pull in every truck that goes down a certain street), and my vehicle was inspected. They red tagged, or put "out of service", my 6 month old peterbilt for some  reason, and my trailer for a legit reason. I WAS NOT ALLOWED to have my repair guy come fix it, I was not allowed to call my towing co. They had a mandatory Towing service to get my rig off of "their street" because THEY set up this sting in a no parking zone. Alterior motive? Sure sounds like it. Maybe a kickback from the Tow service? :driver:

Just thought I'd give everyone an idea of what power they have. If they pull you over on the fwy, or on a street with no parking/stopping...get ready to open your wallet.

My tow bill that day was $1,000. :ahhhhh:

  9. RIGHT ON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My fence has been tagged about a dozen times along the side of my property. I can REALLY appreciate a story like this. My personal concept is to crawl out in my hedges one night, if I knew they were there, and use just the pellet gun, and nick the spray can in their hand  . It would grenade paint all in their face, and then their "stupid parents" might figure out what their kids have been up to. I obviously have more than a pellet gun, but I don't think I could get in too much trouble if I got caught, with just a pellet gun. I figure if I was stealth enough :ban-split: , the wanna be thug wouldn't figure out what happened, as so I wouldn't have to worry about retaliation.

Way to go man! I have a few houses for sale on my street, if you'd like to be my neighbor :ban-split:

  10. I have three tinted sliding window with screens; used, but in good condition. They are roughly 2ft. by 4ft. that I'm selling for $60 a piece. I bought them for my cargo trailer, but gave up on my conversion when I found my "motorhome".

If anyone is interested, you can pm me and I'll try to return a picture with some concrete actual dimensions. Located near the 15 & 60 Fwy. :beercheers:

  11. Depending how handy you are with the tools is what would make me decide if I want to tackle something like that.

I say alot of work and probabley cheaper to buy new like Capt said..Just the injectors alone may cost you a little over a grand and who else knows what you will find wrong with it.. Most of the parts that are neeeing to be replaced will most likely come from the dealer where there are no price breaks ..

If you decide on what you want to do I may be able to help on the prices for the parts you need. i can get most stuff at cost and I would pass that along if needed..

Alright, I'll let you know if I end up getting it; I sure appreciate your offer

  12. I have knowledge in this area lol

You can buy a good used Dmax for about 3500.00 on up. I paid 5500.00 for mine and it was a complete motor... go to thedieselplace.com and Mcratracing.com both are good sites with lots of parts... you can find what is needed and all the info needed there.

    Capt

Right on; I haven't found any info yet, but thanks for the link; I'll be checking that out :DDR:

    :woo_hoo:
