  1. What do you have? Obviously it depends on the driver, in my opinion more than the car. With 200+hp at the wheels likely running E85, and good suspension (aftermarket valving and springs) you can keep up pretty well driving aggressively. A nimble rail with a turning brake will leave you in the dust though.

I haven’t driven these newer sxs’s with the fancy live valving and such, they might not need work out of the box.

Because my opinions are not the same as most of the general population at Dumont these days. This stuff never gets built right or maintained properly therefore it turns into broken down trash that is a liability and an eye sore.

All good to have different opinions brother. That’s how good conversations happen. I know there’s plenty of people out there these days that can’t handle people having different opinions than their own, that’s their problem. But I understand.

I also see your point and agree about the equipment possibly breaking and hurting someone and/or becoming a hunk of junk in our beautiful dunes. I hope neither of those things happen.

  3. Why keep them to yourself?

As long as they’re out of the way of normal riding, I think they’re alright. Dumont is a small place. You can only go circle around a pole and stare at it so many times in one weekend. Things like the swing set and tire swing give the family/kids one more place to ride to and hang out. My kids look forward to going to Dumont for the whole experience. The rides, the camp life, ice cream at vendors row, and yes..swinging in the sand. I think that’s pretty cool.

  4. Can't afford to go do recreational activities right now, spending all my money on ammo. 🤣

Kidding, well not really, but we're still getting out for sure. Went down to William's AZ a few weeks ago for some camping and riding. Awesome place. Cool little town that we will definitely explore a bit more next time. Also stopped into Bearizona while there. Kind of like Jurassic Park, but with wolves and bears instead. Definitely a good time.

Had a chance to use my new go pro hero 8 while there, the thing is amazing. The hypersmooth function is a really nice feature. But hell, I haven't had a go pro since the hero 2 so I'm geeking out on this thing like it's the first iphone. I'll come back when I get a moment and throw up a few pics.

Heading back down there for the 4th to escape the heat and the crazy world for a few days.

Other than that, I stay in the pool. 😎

  5. Do your friends or family have experience riding in the dunes? It's a dangerous time to go out there. The dunes are sharp and drop off on the one side, witches eyes are everywhere. There's probably no medical, and you already mentioned the heat. Go have fun but keep your head on straight. All to often lately people jump into SXS's with little experience and go launch off a razorback.

  6. Glad the OG stuff is still there. The pole with stuff all over it never bothered me. Some of the random parts on it I thought was kind of cool. Offerings to the dune gods. Yeah, the shoes and other nonsense crap was dumb and annoying.

Real memorials belong on memorial hill. I'd hate to see memorial hill get cluttered up with any junk though, so if a pole gives people who feel the need to leave their mark (or junk) a place to do it..cool with me.

  7. Unreal that people would do that. Is the mailbox still there? The north pole is more than just a spot to meet and hang out. My kid, who is now 8, has been putting her letters to santa in that box since she was a baby. It's a tradition to ride to the north pole on Thanksgiving to do that. Wish we were out there to help re build it this weekend.

  8. We'll be there. Unfortunately missing MLK coming up due to other obligations. So, planning to make Presidents an extra long weekend. Some guys coming down from Utah and Idaho with some fast X3's. Should be a fun trip. Gonna be a whole lot of E85 drums burned through.

  9. I work on all my own vehicles and wouldn't let a dealer or their "techs" within 20ft of my toys. But recently I had an issue that required special equipment to fix an ECU problem on my Can Am X3. I called Mike at Dirt 2 Dunes in Vegas, he hooked me up and got my car rolling again fast.

Fair and honest shop I would actually trust to work on my SXS. If you need some work done, I'd recommend taking your ride to them.

Slippery slope asking for enforcement. Avoid the big weekends till the economy slows a bit and the bank will own most of the side by sides you refer too. I would make contact whenever possible, just keep a cool head and be ready to walk away if you cant reason with them, not worth a major confrontation. Usually you will just get an apology.

I agree with this on all accounts. I don't want to see Dumont turn into glamis with regards to LEO aggression. I don't hesitate to make contact with these people and its usually at least once a trip, and it's usually kids or teenagers using the flats by the back ridge as a track to back and forth on...over...and over again.

My new rig came with a Go-Power 200 watt solar panel and a power inverter.  I used to run my generator constantly on my old rig without solar,  now I only run the generator when I have to use the microwave or AC.  Everything else is ran straight up on 2- 12v batteries. I leave my panel in "recharge boost" mode starting from the morning until night fall. I run my 40" TV that draws about 140 watts for about 3-4 hrs a day. I can go all weekend without any issues.  Would never go back to not having solar.

Next time you need batteries try 2, 6 volt golf cart batteries. Like Trojans, or from Sam's club or costco. They give you more amp hours.
