re-setting spedo with new tires

been wanting to do for a while...i have aftermarket tires and would like to reset the speedo to match the new tires....where do you guys go to do this???? thanks andre

I do if its a chevy. You also alter all the transmission shifting information when you change tires or gears. Shifting is done by speed and load. Changing the over all gear ratio (tire or gear) changes that load. Yes the map sensor sees it.

Everything is computer comtrolled nowadays. Its not as easy as changing out a gear on the speedometer cable. If you have an aftermarket tuner you can do it in those, my edge programmer has that ability.

If you have a friend that works at a dealer of your make of truck maybe they can plug into it with their scanner. I know Fords could do this back when I worked at a dealer. We could lower a car on airbags and reset the ride height to where they wanted it, so I believe they can tell the computer what size tires are on there and correct for the size change.

Yes a power programmer or dealer scan tool will work. On some Borg Warner transfer cases you can change the speedo gear ring, or speed sensor gear.
