Monday, December 4 the Baker to Dumont/ Tecopa route will be re-opened with flagging operations in place from Monday through Sunday. This is a 24-hour flagging operation, with piloting to direct traffic in both directions. Flagging operations will continue as needed due to severe undermined roadways and to allow for environmental mitigation operations to continue. The repair work is expected to continue through early spring 2024. The re-opening and repair timeline is weather and material dependent.
Crews will be on location performing base paving to allow for traffic flagging with escorts in place. Please adhere to all road signage and operations and wait for the piloting vehicle to direct your route. Expect traffic delays, flagging may take up to 30-40 minutes per direction. This is a 24-hour flagging operation from Monday through Sunday.
Starting December 4, all traffic will be provided access through SR-127 from Baker to Tecopa via
escorting only. Drivers, please proceed cautiously through the area as repair work will continue in the shoulders and lanes. Please adhere to road closure signage to allow for safe transport of equipment and crews. Consider taking alternate routes to avoid expected flagging delays.

Previous updates...
The north-side of highway 127 to Dumont Dunes Rd. has been reopened (from Pahrump, Shoshone, or Tecopa). The route from Baker is still closed and will remain closed during repairs for an undetermined amount of time. It will likely December or later before that stretch of the highway gets reopened. If you are coming from Baker, you will have to go to Vegas then through Pahrump or Tecopa to get to Dumont Dunes. This will add 2-3 hours to your trip.
Additional details:
SAN BERNARDINO, CA – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) continues $9M emergency work on State Route 127 (SR-127) to repair roadbed, pavement, backfill shoulders, armor erosion embankments, repair drainage, remove debris and address other structural damage sustained by recent monsoon storms.
Contractor crews are in the area clearing debris, performing roadbed repair, drainage repair and various other recovery efforts. At this time, the north-side only of the route from County Line to Dumont Dunes Rd. has reopened. The route remains fully closed in both directions, just south of Dumont Dunes Rd. due to severe undermined roadways and to allow for environmental mitigation operations to continue. The timeframe of a full route reopening remains to be determined. Emergency repair work is expected to continue through spring 2024.
Please adhere to road closure signage to allow for safe transport of equipment and crews. Together with partner agencies, Caltrans continues working to determine a full route re-opening as soon as possible, with safety in mind.

Little Dumont
There will be zero access to Little Dumont via SR127. The only way to get there is through the dunes from the main camp area at Dumont.
