  1. I picked this up last week and have had a ton of fun with it. It is a DJI Phantom 1 Quadcopter. I am still learning how to fly it smoothly but it will come with time I guess. I have my gopro mounted to it with no stabilization added to it yet. I don't want to put more money into it just yet till I know I won't have a huge crash and break all my stuff.

I have had a few minor crashes so far but nothing too bad. Had it up a tree, had a few rough landings but for the most part this is very easy to fly. It has GPS on board so if you get scared you just let go of the sticks and it hovers right there. Plus if your can't see it or cant tell which way is forward of backward, one flip of a switch and it comes home by its self and lands!

Here is a video I made yesterday, I landed kind of hard messing with a seagull and broke one leg of the landing gear. I have another piece on order so I will be out of commission for a few days. All in all this is a blast and can't wait to get it to the desert.

  2. Vegas Style, you are out there more than anyone I know, If you were concerned by the LEO's, that is saying something. I personally will not ever let anyone in my RV or home for that matter without probable cause and / or a warrant. Nothing to hide, it's the principle of the matter... Don't know how they can detain someone to let the dogs search around without probable cause?.?...

Bottom line is they can't. Anytime you are stopped by LEO it is considered an "arrest". Meaning you are not free to go. The courts will look at the time involved to determine if it was excessive.

Stop to ask for your pass- Still an arrest but totally legal to do. Now stop me and have me wait for a dog to sniff around without any other reason? They better have a damn good reason for this one. I never identify myself as a LEO until I feel the need to. I like to see what they are up to before I call BS as I know the law too.

Bottom line is-- play by the rules and SMILE. Attitude can get you into a lot of trouble. If trouble finds you and your in the right, get names of all involved and maybe a witness or two or thirty.

  3. My radio is hard mounted to the car. I have a push to talk button on my steering wheel which makes talking to others real easy while driving. My passenger has one on the grab bar also to talk easily. Mine also has the Ipod hookup which is great when I ride alone (which I prefer, so I can drive a little harder and not worry about hurting someone else). Your kids are young still so the headsets probably won't fit them. Wouldn't hurt to make sure you have a system that can expand at a later time for them.

I believe my radio is 5 watts. When the antenna was tuned it made a big difference on the range it has. But it is still hard to get over mountains when you in a bowl or way down low and want to reach someone a few miles away. In the desert I can talk 2 miles away no problem.

Talk to Pete about the GPS, mine is hard mounted to my car. He has a portable one.

  4. So Here's how "Sandy" came into my life... While at work one day we received a tip that an individual dressed in red might make an attempt to enter into the US in our area. Our surveillance cameras located "said" individual and kept an eye on this person.

    post-1872-0-34301500-1387240590_thumb.jp

Within a few minutes this person jumped the fence and was hiding in the bushes, apparently looking for the Border Patrol and see if they were caught.

    post-1872-0-63931800-1387240921_thumb.jp

After a few minutes this person began to crawl across the road. A common practice to avoid being detected. Little did this person know. They were caught from the beginning.

    post-1872-0-36179700-1387241353_thumb.jp

One of our Agents responded to the area and successfully located the individual.

    And was placed under arrest.

Now here's where is gets interesting. After entering this female into the system for various records checks, our phones rang and an individual who said his name was "Chris Cringle" was responsible for her and needs her to be released asap. He stated she was a run-away elf with a troubled past. He asked if anyone there could take custody of her and watch over her till December 25th, when she will be reunited with the "Chris" guy. I looked at her and she seemed harmless so I volunteered to watch over her. What could go wrong Really! We arrive at my station and she asked to borrow the keys to the shop truck and get some coffee. I needed some and agreed (mistake #1)

After getting my butt chewed out I managed to get out on time and head home and load up for Dumont!!!! 6 long hours later we finally arrive and time to let some anger out on the sand! The first night Sandy was pretty mellow and actually hit the sack nice and early. The next morning we all awoke and Sandy was curios as to what these toys were that we bring to the desert.

    post-1872-0-40289200-1387242100_thumb.jp

Then she looked across the camp and saw a nice 2-seater car the was bright red. She said she was going to take a look at that one because it was so pretty. After about 15 minutes I began to wonder why she was over there for so long. As I approach I can see her on the roof. What could she be up to? THIS!!! Seems as though my little Elf friend has a fancy for the girls! (Can't blame her really)

    post-1872-0-10630200-1387242238_thumb.jp

I finally pry her off the roof (Or she ran out of twenties!) I told her I have another girl for her to meet her name is Anna.

    post-1872-0-78278700-1387242426_thumb.jp

Turns out that was a mistake. Anna liked her too as you can see.

Sandy wandered over to the Liquor stash and was in heaven!

    Did someone say SHOTS?

    post-1872-0-02380000-1387242757_thumb.jp

Turns out Sandy has a thing for the "white" stuff too.

    post-1872-0-02002800-1387242834_thumb.jp

We told here she would go to hell for doing these bad things. She wondered what that would be like so being the good DDR folks we are. We improvised and came up with this.

    post-1872-0-88828600-1387242915_thumb.jp

Well that did no good. She heard Mike's (Greedybastard) trailer music and had to go over and get her groove on!

We managed to finally make it to the fire pit for the night. (Editor's note) Due to the graphic nature, these photos can be seen on my website. www.619actionphoto.com See Below for info! The next morning we awoke and Sandy was not in her bed. I walk out of the toyhauler to find her face down in the sand.

    post-1872-0-22163800-1387243266_thumb.jp

Enough is enough. I had to pack up and hit the road. I said my goodbye's to all in the camp and loaded Sandy in the passenger seat and left for home. It was a quiet ride as she was passed out the entire time. I get home and sit her down with the family. We had a long talk about her staying with us till the 25th. If so she needed to talk to someone outside of us and set her straight. My daughter said "Dad, there's a church right across the street!" We all agreed. We said so long for now and hopefully she will come home soon.

Have you ever hear a preacher cuss? It's not pretty, he said things I can't repeat here. Long story short, she pissed him off and demanded she check herself into rehab IMMEDIATELY! So currently, Sandy is in a safe "undisclosed" location getting the professional help she needs. I hope she didn't offend anyone in camp over the weekend. I will post updates as I get them.

NOTE-- The pictures are on my website in the "People" category. Password is Dumont. (use the capitol "D" when you log in.)

  5. What an awesome weekend. Met some new faces from here. Had a blast around the campfire all 3 nights. This weekend was perfect! The circle was 2 even 3 deep at times. The rides were fast and faster. Lou's daughter knows how to drive her dad's rail. If you didn't know there was a girl behind the wheel you would think it was a man on a mission because she knows how to mash the go pedal.

Pete- Thanks for making this happen and once again for letting me crash in your hauler. These off weekends keep getting better and better. I only took my camera out two times so my shots are limited but I hope you like them.

Sandy the Elf pics still to come....

  6. Rumor is, she is in an extended rehab facility till her "issues" get worked out. Sandy stated she is deeply saddened by her actions and hope she didn't offend anyone during her maiden trip to Dumont and meeting all the kind people that opened up their camp to her.

    Pictures to follow (hopefully tonight)

  7. Great trip, no carnage in our camp other than Dougs power steering rack seal and a chip in my windshield following Tim too close through the flats.

Nice to put some more faces to board names and see some familiar ones for sure

Pete, great lines as always and thanks for organizing

Joe, Love seeing xp's wheelie, gives me hope for mine (now I just need a fatter wallet)

Jordan, most enthusiastic award for sure, very refreshing to see

Lindsay, Great job leading buggy ride on Sat

Lou, great guy, and resources for days, kudos for passing along to Lindsay, VERY impressed with that young lady, inspired me to spend more time with my daughter in the drivers seat of the rail.

Anna, always great to see you, the falling star / fish parallel was hilarious

Elf, wouldn't even touch you while wearing a HazMat suit :beerpint:

If that was me, I am sorry. I try to watch my mirror and see how close someone is behind me before I hit the gas. My tires pick up a lot of sand/rocks for such a small motor compared to others and sometimes I can't see what's behind me at all.

  8. Damn, I missed the scales! Really wanted to know what mine weighed in at too.

I will get my pics up today after work. And start on my Elf pics- Rumor is she is in rehab after this weekend......

Sweet pics Pete. You can see "Sandy the Elf" on my front bar hanging on as I air it out on those jumps.

  9. I have seen a few posts on facebook regarding this little guy. Does anyone that is coming out this weekend have one? I was thinking of taking some desert themed shots with him and his adventures with the dunebuggy roundup.

I will check the stores tonight and hope I can locate one. We can have some good fun with all the alcohol around the fire at night and some nice dune runs.
