  5. well I can help you out with the fuel bowl drain screw but as far as the ride, I cant. I should be in dumont until Sunday than we are headed to Sin City for the big race. As far as the fuel pet c*ck, most bike has the same pet c*ck but with a shut off. Suzuki uses a vacume draw to the carb and does not have a shut off to it. So " normally " you can turn the pet c*ck horizontal and shut all fuel to the carb but with a Zui you cant and thats why you have to drain the fuel in the carb first. But other than that I still wouldnt put my bikes standinng up, but thats just me.

But as far as riding I wish you could go next weekend. We could get you set up and than you could go back to your group and show them whats up. So really try. I cant make it for the clean up even though I wish I could. I hope someone there will take you underneith their wing.

Oh we drain the carb on the YFZ also when we stand it and it has a fuel shut off :laughoff:, dunno that one isnt mine. The manual gives directions to transport the 400 standing, so thats what we followed. Wsky70 explained to me about the petcock and gave me some tips for both bikes.

As far as why we stand them, well we only have a truck so if we want to ride then we have to stand one or both. Weekend trips require both to be standing, day trips mine stays on all 4. We are working on getting a trailer.

I would go ride every weekend if I could, but I haven't bought myself a truck just yet . My bike is stored at my sisters place with her boyfriends bike and he is the only one with a truck, so I am dependent on others for now.

I am sure I will get a chance to ride with some people with more experience and more knowledge to share than my group currently has and I will benefit from them greatly. :beercheers:

Thanks for the offer! Hope to see you out there some time, enjoy your weekend.

  6. Dirtwheels is pretty good, when they do articles like that and some of the shootouts. I have a link that I believe has a pdf version of the service manual for you bike.

Cool. I got a link from Woody for the service manual, I have looked at it a little bit. Send me the link in a PM and I will check that out also. Thanks

    :happydrunks:

  7. Meg is a cool chick, I go to SAM's (he is a great guy too) and buy stuff, never had a problem yet.

Yup, she was totally cool. They were a great help with my screw problem, even though the order got messed up. I got my air filter stuff from them also. We are definately going back to them for other things. :laughoff:

  8. i'll be there next weekend the 10th and if we can meet up i'll see what i can help ya with. :) my old z i'd launch in 2nd gear and at just before the whoops i'd shift to 3rd and pull it hard all the way up. but i also had a little more mods. :D

Thanks for the offer, I can't get out this weekend (just answered another post with the explanation :D ).

Maybe I will be able to pull 3rd when I get some mods, but for sure 2nd is it at the moment :laughoff:.

  9. Come out next weekend and you can ride with us, will show you the ropes. Ive been riding for 29 years and were very patient, Ive taught many to ride both dirt bikes and quads.

I would come out next weekend, but I have 2 problems...I haven't recieved the replacement screw yet, so I can't ride my bike or get it serviced yet and I don't have any transportation to the dunes, since I don't own a truck I depend on my sister and her boyfriend to go riding. :laughoff::D

Thanks for the offer, maybe you can catch me around during the cleanup weekend if you are going and teach me some things. B) I always ride with the same people and none of them have been riding a very long time, so any experience is much appreciated.

  10. You should be able to take the old screw to any parts house or hardware store and match it with a allen. I dont think its anything special and one more thing. I wouldnt be standing your bike up with out a fuel shut off. Stupid Zuki put that vacume crap on these bikes, but you can buy a inline one from a bike shop.

Thanks, but I went to 3 parts stores and 4 off road shops and none of them had one, had to order one from suzuki. Don't know how to describe it, but the screw has a special shape to it, comes to a long point at the end. It isnt the screws for the float bowl.

We were following the directions from the shop on how to load it standing and went to drain the carb like they said and the screw got messed up. We got it drained to get to Dumont, but had to transport it standing without draining the carb on the way back due to not being able to get the screw out again and that caused gas to run into the airbox. I got the filter cleaned and recharged and the screw is on order.

I don't know what you mean about a vacuum thing or an inline..?

**Sorry for the caps, I copied and pasted this**

FUEL PETCOCK IN THE ON POSITION AND ENGINE OFF. ON THE LEFT SIDE BOTTOM OF YOUR CARB THERE IS A PHILIPS SCREW. LOOSEN THE SCREW AND IT WILL DRAIN THE BOWL OUT A LINE BY YOUR RIGHT FOOT PEG THEN TIGHTEN SCREW. AS LONG AS YOU DONT START THE BIKE AFTER THAT YOU WILL BE FINE TO HAUL IT ON THE GRAB BAR. IF YOU TURN THE PETCOCK TO PRI FOR A SECOND BEFORE RESTARTING IT WILL MAKE IT EASIER TO START AFTER YOU SET IT BACK ON THE WHEELS.

Didn't know if you were riding a zuki also and had trouble transporting, but here are the instructions for transporting it on the rear end.

  11. Make sure you dont go to Sam's Cycle and talk to Meg, she will just srew up the order :laughoff:

Hey that chick in the fur coat works at a local shop..met her on Pres day at the shop to get a new carb. screw ordered, she messed up the order and now its going to be another week :(.She was cool though :D.

I don't actually care to reply to this post other than to defend the person named since I didn't name names and I don't actually have a problem with her, she was cool like I said. Minor mistake on her part and they are correcting it, no big deal, they were very helpful at the shop. My bad if you took that post for more than it was intended, but it wasn't very respectful to name the shop.

  12. :boxer: That's it! LETS GO CHICA! :laughoff: Don't worry you'll learn to ride one day.... :D Ur a fiesty one huh!

At Comp, went through the woops in 4th grabbed 3rd at the bottum and down shifted to 2nd 1/3-1/2 way up.

I tried to go up that far right of comp also but, had to turn out of it. It was soft!! :thumb:

    :boxer::grin:

I am the first to admit I am new and have stuff to learn, so whoever wants to teach me I am ready to be taught! I ask A LOT of questions.

So there it is, same bike different rider and it wouldn't go up the far right area on Comp, so :thumb: to rider error .

I didnt try Banshee or Comp in anything but 2nd, one guy tried Banshee in 3rd and it wouldn't make it, so I stuck in 2nd with the pedal to the metal :driver:.

  13. compared to some of the other tires out there, the sand star tends to be heavy.

although I have seen them run on DS650's (sand pigs) and do good.

you shouldn't be getting stuck like that, as the bike isnt all that heavy, and you have sand tires on it.

do you get stuck often, or once in awhile?

Only got stuck on the hills 2 times (Pres day), never had a problem before. First time was on Comp Hill, ran the middle twice, moved right about 20 feet and it wouldnt make it up, went back to the middle and ran up without a problem. The other time was at the top of the bowl, was riding around up there at the top flat area, turned to head down and tires just spun in the sand, the other guy I was with got on it and tried to ride it out, but it just dug in more so he pulled it out and down I went. :driver:

Maybe I will have someone ride it up the same area during the cleanup weekend and see if it is rider error, though I dont know what I could be doing. :thumb:
