Do people trick or treat from campsite to campsite? Just curious want my kids to have a blast and I bought bags and bags of candy!

Yep! Not as much since they do the trunk or treat at vendor row, but we still got a decent amount of them at our camp the last couple years. People that like to go camp to camp the old skool way. 🤘

any updates since last post on 9-18?

From what I have seen posted across our social media, there still isn't service but one person with AT&T said they had service.

  4. You can always ride up Sperry Wash or hit the outskirts of the dunes. You'll be ringing that 125's neck out there in the sand especially with no paddle, but there's a little hard pack to have some fun. You can ride out to Little Dumont too. There's sandy/ dirt trails that lead out there.

Sorry i typed that funny. It meant to read "holiday and non-holiday passes are same prices as previous years, no change". Sorry for that confusion! Holiday pass is still $120 and non-holiday is $100.

haha oh ok. Non-holiday is 90 though

Many of you are like us and love your annual pass w/holidays. With BLM office being closed, their recording says the staff is "working hard at home answering calls and responding to emails". Well, after 2 weeks, calling 10 times each day and leaving a voicemail, plus numerous emails, called this morning and on the first ring someone answered!! Was so excited I was speechless all I said was don't hang up! I'll give some feedback, hoping to answer some questions someone might have but too nervous to ask or not know how to ask!

    - yes they are open remotely, limited staff due to an abundance of reasons

    - yes annual passes are available now as of October 1st, holiday and non holiday same prices

    - no you do not need a drivers license number to purchase anymore, just first/last name and address

    - they are shipping the passes upon cleared credit card transaction via FedEx

    - new to this year, you are able to purchase more than one pass! They just ask what last name you want on each pass

If you love your annual pass and have to have one, don't get pissed off and mad at BLM. They don't make these (insert personal opinion adjective here) rules, the state does, it isn't their fault. SOMEONE will eventually answer the phone or possibly call you back. The lady who I spoke with this morning was very happy and cheerful, we joked about some things, talked about Dumont, ect. They are people too ;)

Looking forward to Halloween this year, I think it is going to be more packed than last year. Wouldn't miss a Halloween!

Yes, BLM just staffed their office yesterday so everyone should be getting callbacks soon.

Wait...holiday and non holiday same price? What price? I haven't heard of this.

  7. Update as of 9/22/2020

    • Campfires are still not allowed.
    • BBQs and anything that uses gas with a shutoff valve is allowed with fire permit.  (No charcoal, wood fires, or smudge pots)
    • Click here to get your fire permit for free. (This is not something that is heavily enforced, but technically its the law. Its best to get one just in case.)

After emailing with Barstow BLM, they believe that the "no flame" fire restrictions will be in place at Halloween.

Are the shocks bypasses? Some cool stuff out there from the manufacturers now.

The work turned out nice. You should not have to worry about that anymore.

No, they're the same shocks- Fox 2.0 but with high and low speed compression adjusters. I don't have much room to work with on the lower mounts these knuckles/ uprights. Internal bypasses would have required a larger opening at the shock mounts. Just having the clickers should help out a bunch. This car was set up much softer than my driving style so it'll be great to have some adjustability without having to rip the shocks apart.

  9. Over the years I have welded and welded and kept repairing the tabs on the back of this buggy. They were never strong enough for my driving style. 😬 Then at the end of last season I blew a rear shock and found out it was because the shock bodies we're so worn out, a hole had worn a hole through causing the leak. I had enough. I called on some good friends with some crazy skills and resources and they cut the old tabs off, water jet some new tabs and gussets, and beefed up the back of this car for good. It's all back together now, painted and has new shocks. Let's see what I can break next.

The broken crap. Time for surgery.

Cutting off the old crap. These tabs look like sprint car shock mounts. Not intended for suspension control arms!

Note: these crappy welds were done in crappy conditions (usually at Dumont) and were just to get me by. lol

Hey is there any good news for at&t?service at dumont?

Here ya go! Great news for AT&T users. This is from Tom at IC Towers (the project manager)...

AT&T has been installing for the last 30 days at Dumont. They should be on air in 20 days or less.

  11. Vendor row update. I spoke with the BLM and there will be no food vending permits allowed by the San Bernardino Health Dept at this time. Doesn't make much sense to me since so many businesses in CA are open. Not to mention vendor row is outdoors. Probably because its BLM land. 👎

Also vendor row will be reconfigured to allow for social distancing.

I am brand new to this site. I use to be a member but dropped out for quite a while. So why am I writing this. I just happen to sell Yamaha Generators and I am getting back into duning. My company sells more Yamaha generators in the nation than anyone else. Just Google Yamaha Generators and we will come up on the top. I know quite a bit about generators. We get calls constantly about a "Yamaha Gen" they bought at Costco or somewhere else. These are generators that have the Yamaha casing but they are not Yamaha's. If you have a problem, too bad. Yamaha will not fix them. The ones at Costco are made by iPower and they seem not to last very long. Yes, Yamaha's and Honda's cost a lot more but they will run for years and years. I am talking 10-15 years with no problems. You pay for what you get. If you use a generator a lot for camping, dunes, etc. I would only buy a Yamaha or a Honda. They are both great generators but you get a little more with a Yamaha and pay a little less than what the Honda cost. No one in the nation can come close to our prices on our Yamaha's because we buy in bulk. We probably sell around 50 a day. Now, let's talk about air conditioners. To start up an air conditioner, there is a surge. Sometimes it is twice to three times the running watts of the generator. To find out how many watts you need, you have to know the BTU's of the air conditioner. An example: take a 13,500 BTU air conditioner. Divide the BTU's by 3.41 and that will tell you the surge power needed to start that air conditioner (just under 4000 watts). That is what you need to start that air conditioner - a 4K generator. If you want a quite one, get an inverter gen. The industrial gens are loud and could harm anything with a micro-processor in it. Now, if you want to run that air conditioner with a lessor gen, get a soft start for your air conditioner (get the Micro Air Easy Start 364). They run about $300 and it eliminates the surge. Now you can buy a 2000 watt gen to run the 13,500 BTU air-conditioner. I have two Yamaha EF2200's that I pair up giving me 4400 watts. If you have two air conditioners with soft starts in them, you can run both AC's at the same time. Oh, and by the way, I run them off my propane tanks and don't use gas. If you want any more info on generators, let me know. I would be glad to talk to you about them.

Welcome back, Larry! I must state that after 2 years my cheap ass Sam Club generator is still running strong and doing exactly what I bought it for. I don't even try to run my AC off of it. There's no doubt the Yamahas and Hondas are much more superior, but I don't need that. I just need to keep the hours off my big Onan when things are being run for hours in the trailer.  I feel I got what I paid for. I appreciate the input though. You do make some valid points, just none that specifically apply to my situation.

Hopefully the BLM will realize that in the past, no matter how big the camp fires at Dumont get, they have never ignited anything of any significance and allow us to have the camp fires that we enjoy so much.

God bless all the others in the western US that have been affected by the recent fires.

Agreed. But the fire ban has nothing to do with Dumont in particular. Dumont is in CA therefore that is the only reason the area falls under it. They could have made exceptions for some CA desert areas, but we all know that won't happen especially since this decision was probably made very quickly as a way to prevent any future fires anywhere in the state. Also remember that this fire ban wasn't made by the Barstow BLM. This came down from above and they asked me to share the information. I am sure they know and aren't too worried about anything burning out there.
