    One thing that was said to me years ago was actually about power tools, but I apply it anywhere that I am doing anything where I can get hurt.

    "The minute you get comfortable with a tool, put it down and walk away! You have now entered the area of making a mistake that can and almost certainly will hurt you!"

    I feel the same goes for the dunes, and many other things for that matter. Once you become comfortable with danger, you start letting certain things slide and not paying full attention, that's when accidents happen.

  2. So In 2 days, this thread has over 8700 views and 30+ comments. Clearly, there are a lot more people reading this thread than you might think.

    I think, if there was some information posted about how the accident happened and what type of vehicle it was, then it might do some good to someone who is heading out to the dunes and has that situation in their mind, maybe it might save some other lives, knowing the result of this particular accident.

    I was new to the dunes once too, that sounds crazy, I know :dayum: . But, I found this particular site, read and learned a lot about hazards and do's & don'ts that I would never had thought of except to experience myself, and by then, it may have been too late, and I may have been another tragedy, or worse yet, caused one that killed or hurt someone else.

    I would ask of those who were there, to post about how the accident happened. Not for everyone's morbid curiosity, but to educate us as to how it happened so beginner and even seasoned duners can learn and maybe prevent the same thing from happening.

    Accidents happen, the best way to prevent them is knowledge!

  3. Get your facts straight before putting rumors on the Internet. It wasn't his first time out in his rzr. He wasn't ejected and we didn't hit a witches eye. Flight for life came, landed, and left. Didn't even look for us. The first 911 call was at 12:53 and CPR was perform untill emergency personnel arrived around 3.

    I just don't appriecate people put words on the Internet when they don't have accurate information. Very disrespectful to justin. I was the passenger in the rzr so I know what is bs.

    Here's the thing, It's completely understandable for you to be upset, I'm sure that was a very traumatic accident and I'm very sorry for your loss. But, what gets posted online about the accident should be the last thing for you to get pissed off about. You clearly don't know Pete (Dunefreak), he would never start or try to spread rumors, especially about the death of anyone. So don't get your panties all in a bunch because of some mis-information.

    What you can do instead of bitching and complaining, is set the record straight, or at least just say: "I was there, that's not what happened.", and leave it at that.

    I do have a serious question, and I do not mean for this question to be controversial or disrespectful in any way, and do not feel inclined to answer, but I ask:

    If this was in a SxS, were helmet's being worn?

  4. I understand the reasons for both ways, but I agree with Newly. It seems getting the pressure off the turbo the quickest is the best way. If you want to argue about the diaphragm lasting longer, I would say that the diaphragm is cheaper and easier to replace/service than a turbo is.

  5. It seems that the SSSS has just about totally lost it's appeal to any sandcar owners. We were pretty busy in our booth but it didn't seem as busy as last year. Weddle and Rancho were the only driveline companies displaying, Doug Ingles from California performance dropped in the booth and I saw Ben from Benco walking around. Those were the only trans builders other than Rancho I saw all weekend, and Rancho was talking about not even displaying next year.

    I chatted with Don of Sand Cars Unlimited a bit, I asked him if he had anyone looking to build a mid level mild LS with 2D type of build, he said no one! It seems that there is just no one looking for a brand new mid level brand new sand car anymore. People would rather spend the $40k on a SxS.

    I heard a rumor there was $90k RZR on display! :lol:

  6. Sean, thanks for the info. I have an S4 in my car . Is the plumbing the same?

    On the newer main cases (diff housing), the fittings will be similar to what Newly posted. The intermediate housings will have 2 fitting at the top of the case. But not all of the S4 cases had the fittings drilled in production, so you will just have to check and see what you have.

  7. Here is the link to the pump several guys are running. Much cheaper then some of the $500 pumps out there. All you do is mount the pump by the trans and run a line from the rear trans port into the pump then run the line from the pump to the front of the trans by the nose cone. Run 12v power to it and a switch. When your climbing a hill or going to wheelie just switch it on.

    It's a good idea to run a filter before the pump. There can be some little metal bits floating around in the oil that can tear up your nice new pump. We have a nice serviceable billet in line-filter with stainless element for $100, it will last the lifetime of the car.

    We have pumps too, Diaphragm (econo) pump is $220, gear pump is $400 (Much better for 140 weight oils)

    And This is probably the easiest, cheapest way to upgrade and extend the life of any 2D or E-box.

  8. @@nwtdiesel, Run it! its not generally going to hurt anything, if your shifting becomes stiff or notchy, where you have to push hard on the shifter and it doesn't want to go into gear easily, I would pull it. That is the complaint that I hear every so often on my end, we have had people change to oil without moly in it and it tends to fix the issue.

    Moly oil is generally designed for rear end gears that have a lot of offset between the pinion and ring gear where there is a lot of sliding action between the teeth. Synchromesh type shifting systems rely on friction, so the moly tends to be too slippery and the synchros have a hard time grabbing the gear which makes for stiff shifting. The extreme pressure additives which designates the difference between API GL-1 through GL-6 designated oils is what protects the face of the gear teeth. We only ever see GL-4 and GL-5 gear oils today, Most 140 weight oils carry the GL-5 designation.

    A few years ago, it was thought that moly was great for everything, and it does work great in sequentials. If you are running it in your synchromesh trans and it works, keep running it, there is nothing wrong with it.

    @@dunefreak, Do you ever have problems shifting? "Notchy" or tough to get into gear?

    We don't recommend using "Moly" oils in synchromesh transmissions, the Moly makes the oil too slippery and the synchros don't have enough friction to speed up or slow down the gear during the shift. I've had people complain about bad shifting after a fresh service or new trans, and often times it comes back to moly oil.

    Moly oil is fine in sequential "dog-change" transmissions where there are no synchros.

    @@nwtdiesel, I would recommend Swepco 210, 80w/140 for your 2-D.

  10. $40,000 Rail = 20"+ wheel travel, comfortable for 4 adults, 400 horsepower, 80+ mph.

    $40,000 SxS = 15" wheel travel, Backseats?, 110 horsepower, 70 mph max (with one adult).

    Don't get me wrong, my next purchase will probably be a SxS, but my cap is also less than $15K. I don't have the means for storage and a hauler big enough to haul a full size rail around. I think today's SxS's are bad azz! But I also think it to be nuts to spend the same kind of money on a bunch of plastic over something with much more power and comfort.

    Fact is, the SxS market is huge. There are a lot of guys trading in their big high dollar family rails for a 4 seat RZR, and that's why the sand show mostly caters to that market these days. I still think there is plenty there for any rail owner to go and check out as far as more power or other upgrades. But a rail will never have the "bolt on" market that the SxS market has.

    So were about 6 weeks out. Anybody planning on making it out this year?

    Weddle Industries will have a booth again this year. We will actually be in a slightly new location, still in building 10, but we will move to the spot directly behind where we were the past few years (where RAW Motorsports was last year). It will be a bigger booth for us, which is good since we get pretty crowded in the other location.

    Don't be afraid to swing by and check out some new products, ask questions, shoot the sh*t, and grab a coozie and some swag!
