  1. Who took their friend to the dunes for the first time this weekend and now they want a toy to ride around on? This is the perfect setup for someone. All you need is a helmet and you are off into the sunset!

  3. Nevermind, just realized my social coordinator signed me up for a damn mud run that weekend. So I can't make this one.
  4. Is anyone doing this? I'll make a trip out of it too.
  5. I'm no engineer or chassis builder either, but in my mind, You need heims on a 5-link because the wheel makes 2 arcs as it travels. The forward trailing arm arcs backwards as it moves up from droop, and the control arms off the side move the wheel out from droop. So the wheel will go out and back as it cycles through the travel, essentially making the wheelbase wider and longer until is hits the "Level" (I don't know how else to describe it) where the wheel will start to move back in on both planes. Or think of a VW swing axle trans where there is a lot of camber at the wheel since there is no joints at the wheel/hubs, but instead locked to the arc of the axle. Since there is a lot of travel associated with off-road cars, there is too much "side-to-side" movement at the pivots, the forward trailing arm pivot has to rotate right and left, where the control arm pivots need to rotate forward and backward. Therefore you need a heim at the pivots that can rotate up and down as well as side to side. Your front arm heims probably last longer because all they have to do is move up and down without any side rotation since there is no extra trailing arm. But, I could be totally wrong in every way possible, which is often the case. That is just how I look at the mechanics of how the arms work. Carry On! <<<<Thank you Veterans!
  6. I think were selling it for around $65 + $10-15 for shipping. So $72 is a bit of a deal to be able to have it right now. Jeff and Johnny are good guys, like any small business, they have to make some money to keep the doors open and make a living. Pete pays a little more because I've told all the suppliers in Vegas to up-charge him!
  7. My goal this Spring is to make sure adults understand the dangers of teeter-totters and slides when under the influence of alcohol. I certainly wish someone would have explained the dangers to me!
  8. We have a bunch of brand new factory VW 4.57's for 091 and 094. Not as durable as Weddle but a damn good deal.
  9. Jeff is a quality builder, he'll do you right!
  10. I would be more interested to see what the shift linkage looks like. Looks like someone did some 'hand" clearancing with a dremel tool for some reason. Have you drained the oil from the entire trans yet? What kind of "chunks" are they? Magnesium from the housings or steel from the gears?
  11. It sounds like it may be an internal issue in the trans. If you are dead certain that all of the shift linkage is in good shape and adjusted properly, then it would have to be inside the trans.
  12. If you can get into all 4 gears, then you can get into neutral. Neutral is when the stick moves right to left. The only time you wouldn't be able to get into neutral, is if you were somehow stuck in gear. Reverse can be tricky if the teeth are not lined up on the gears just right. You might be able to find it if you rock the car back and forth. When you are trying to downshift from 3rd to 2nd, does the shifter just not want to find the 2nd gear "gate", or is the shifter literally stuck in 3rd and will not come out? By the way, feel free to call me at the shop if you get a chance. It may be easier to discuss one the phone. Sean 805-562-8600
  13. Can you shift into all gears when the car is not running?
  14. This is exactly what has been bouncing around in my head for the last few years. I know if I get rid of it, I'm going to be super bummed when everyone starts lining up for a fun, fast dune ride. I think I will do everything I can to keep it, I would rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. Plus, I would have to change all my online screen names!
  15. That was a nasty wreck, glad those guys are ok. This morning's stage had the cars start 5 at a time, land rush style, on a dry lake bed that is 85 miles long. So they were supposed to be flat out wide open for 85 miles across the lake bed. Robby lost some time today but word is he had low oil pressure and took it easy as to not hurt anything. This was part of the marathon stage where the drivers ended yesterday's stage and none of the their teams were allowed to go and service the cars. Only the drivers were allowed to make repairs.
  16. There's more to it than that, but I won't talk about it here. LOL He finished 3rd today. He shows he can run up front when everything holds together.
  17. Yesterday was Stage 3, one of the shorter stages of the race. Robby ran well as he started somewhere in the 50's off the line and finished 15. He had a flat and took out one of the lines for the tire inflation system that cost him a few minutes. Today was stage 4 and another bad day for Robby. Word is he had a problem with his flywheel and had to cut off the starter ring gear, but was able to get rolling again after losing over an hour, putting him about 4 1/2 hours down in the overall. Peterhansel did well in his new Peugot today, but the car still looks very unstable through the rough. The other 2 cars are struggling with technical problems but I believe they finished the stage. Hopefully this will be the last of Robby's technical problems for the rest of the rally. There is pretty much no hope of a win or even a podium finish. Maybe he can pull off a top ten overall finish.
  18. It still pisses me off that the entire world gets full Dakar coverage and we here in the States get a 30 min recap a day later. It seems that our American effort in Robby Gordon basically hit the wall today. Had brake issues early on in the day and stayed with him throughout the stage. Reports that he got towed in the last 30k and finished over 4 hours back. There were some pictures of him at the finish where he looked worked, maybe some A/C problems. They say it reached 122F there today and it was a brutal stage with lots of breakdowns. He is still in good spirits and ready to tackle the rest of the rally. Unfortunately, Nasser Al-Attiyah took the win in today's stage in a Mini. These things seem like they can't be beat right now. They have their program dialed and are the cars to beat. I really think Robby has a good program and car to win if they can get through the breakdowns. Some talk about lack of testing, but the Gordini has a lot of testing on it this year and problems have been found and fixed. The car ran great yesterday and earned him a 2nd place on the day, but that was only an hour long stage. Once they get their problems sorted, I believe Robby can put the Gordini on the box if not win a few stages. Go Robby
  19. Sandsports mag shared @@dunefreak's picture giving his Mom a ride in his sandcar for the first time. It's such a great shot.
  20. Lake Havasu! Off Roading, Shooting, Family. Always lot's of thanks to give on that holiday!
  21. What size bolts are they? Going into aluminum or steel threads?
  22. My social coordinator had other plans for me, but from what I've heard it wasn't all that great. I also heard a lot of that last year and I had a great time, so moral of the story is I don't listen to others opinions, I prefer to make my own! I saw some video's though, it looked like the guy in the King Shocks SST truck was going for the gold! I can't find the video though.
  23. This would be a good one to add to the "Must Have" thread.
